My Road To Slim City

Hi Michelle

Hope you're ok honey.

Catch up soon I hope, much love to you xxxx

Hi All,

Firstly let me apologose for not being around and I want to thank you ALL for your messages.

I have had a tough couple of weeks and I won't deny that I have been completely off track with my plan. My son has been suffering from stomach pains over the last few months and was admitted to hopital back in March with them which they put down to a virus in the stomach lining. He has still been getting these stomach pains and 2 weeks ago he had a big attack. I took him to the gp at the start of last week and when the Dr looked at all of the evidence she admitted him to hopital there and then. He has not only had the stomach pains but back in December he had pneumonia and then a secondary infection of pneumonia in January. Plus he is covered in unexplained bruises one covering about 6 inches of his back. When I took him to the gp he wasn't in pain at the time and so I wondered why the sudden rush to send him in there and then and so I asked my hubby to sit in the waiting room with my son whilst I spoke with the Dr. I asked why the rush to send him in now to which she replied

"I am worried about him and I want to rule out something!"

that frightened the life out of me but I had to ask the question "What are you thinking it could be? Please tell me so I can be prepared in case it is!"

"I believe it could be Leukemia!"

WOW I felt sick :cry: How could I keep a brave face on whilst facing my son! I had to because that is what us Mum's do.

We went into hospital immediately and they had to take some tests. The first set came back as inconclusive and so the nest day he had to have more. Whilst they were taking his bloods he had a panic attack and fainted in my arms! Which was quite scary on it's own but when they then told me that the results would be back within about 2 hrs I was scared sh**less!

It was the longest 2 hrs of my life :sigh: and I have to admit that I had to walk out of my sons room and I left my sister with him whilst I went downstairs and pinched a fag of a stranger outside the hospital and I sobbed my heart out whilst smoking it!

2 hrs later the results were in a NO leukemia, No hepatitis and nothing wrong with his spleen woo hoo :worthy:

We are still awaiting more tests results and he has to go back as an outpatient. The 2 things they believe it is now are

1. He is Coeliac

2. He has Crohn's Disease

I know that neither one of these are nice especially for 10 year old but they are alot better than the alternative.

He is still getting attacks of pain and has the brusies. We are having to keep a food diary for him to see what sets him off but that is very difficult now the Specialist has mentioned in front of him that it could be wheat because my son will no longer eat his weetabix or anything that he is aware that has wheat in it including bread!

So needless to say that I have not been on track at all with all of that stress and hospital food. I did manage to go to wi last week although I didn't stay. I had put on 4lb in 2 weeks oppss... I have been better this week although my syns have been at an average of about 20 syns per day. I am easing myself back in gently and next week I am back on it 100%.

Thanks again for all your support and I promise that normal service will resume shortly x x

Oh Michelle, how awful for you all. I had tears in my eyes reading your post, I can't imagine how you must have felt.

I do know that Crohns or Coeliac is awful to live with but you do adapt and a far better outcome for you all than the initial thought.

I wouldn't even think about SW, our children are far more important that any diet, that will take care of itself when you get back on track.

Much love to you honey and keep strong for your boy, you can vent your feelings and frustrations on here and you know we will all be there for you to support you in any way we can.

Big hugs to you all xxxxx

Hi Michelle,

I'm so sorry you and your family have been put through such an awful time :patback:

Thank goodness the worst case scenario has been ruled out, but you still have the stress of properly getting to the bottom of things and sorting your lovely young man out. So please please take a step back and give yourself as much time as you need to get your SW head back on. There's no rush is there? And we will still be here, plodding along, when you decide to join us!

My son has a very restricted diet (no eggs, milk, cheese, meat, poultry, bread, flour, pulses, pasta ... just fruit and veg and that has to be weighed and limited) due to him having the condition Phenylketonuria. I know it's a scary prospect being faced with a child who needs a special diet, but if it turns out your son does have a dietary problem, I know he'll be fine as he has such a wonderful mummy looking after him xx :family2:

Take care and lots and lots of love to you all xxx

Oh Michelle - big ((( hugs ))) to you and your family.

As Dawn says, take a step back and just don't stress yourself any further by worrying about food for yourself. get the wee lad sorted out and then you can really conecentrate. Ok, don't go beserk but don't worry too much.

I couldn't just read and run as your diary has inspired me so much already......I just wanted to say how brave you are, your post had me in tears and I am so pleased that your precious son is on the road to recovery. xx

Awhh Michelle, what an awful experience, but fortunately things are better than you initially thought xxxxxx

My hubby is a Coeliac, and what I do remember from his initial diagnosis is that it is really important to not eliminate gluten from the diet prior to being properly tested, as otherwise, they will never know whether it is or isn't. I know hubby was tempted to, whilst waiting for tests, but resisted, but then he was a grown up, and all not so easy for a child:tear_drop:

How's Daisy? Is she massive?

Don't bother with the recipes. Can we have food parcels instead :)

Food Parcels? Sorry I don't have any food left after feeding my hungry lot lol

Daisy is getting massive and is being a pain as she is into everything! Digging up the carpet in her room, climbing on our hedge and escaping into the field behind our house and numberous other things! She keeps us on our toes though and now we are taking her for 2 walks a day which will keep me fit!
