New year, same me; just less wobbly + Project 52!

I'll take make up over soup any day! You can find soup everywhere, this is the hidden beauty secrets corner - way more fun!

My skin? Eugh is probably a good summary! Really dry but greasy nose and chin. Spots on chin but everywhere else is okish. But it def needs coverage. Like you I really can't be bothered to reapply. There's a girl at work who I see in the loo at least twice a day reapplying. Yes she looks amazing but how on earth does she have time?!?

And how does she afford it? She must get through 2 foundations a month!!

If that's the case I'd go for the Kanebo. Your skin sounds quite similar to mine- the compact is great because it helps with the oiliness but Kanebo also do a liquid foundation which I am equally as keen on (just that I can't wear it every day) which is only £35 (only!) so it would be worth getting a sample of that too.

In short, I think we have established that there is no such thing as the perfect foundation :(

I'm going to look into all the foundations you've recommended Jez. I've been using BB cream for ages now, £10 on eBay and it's perfect for me, but when my skin is oily it emphasises the shine, primer makes it crack and powder goes a bit cakey over it, so I need something to alternate it with. I sometimes mix it with my aqua lumiere stuff but a lot of the time I'm too lazy for that faff in the morning lol :)

BB Cream is something I am not an afficianado of. I tried one once and disliked it so never tried another. I can't even remember the brand but it was £26 plus shipping from somewhere exotic- possibly Japan? Or a Japanese company in California if not. Any you reccommend Chef?

What is project 52 lol x

I was supposed to make a soup every week for lunches in work but after making 5 batches I got a bit bored of soup :( I have technically made soup, but it's just too boring to discuss!!

In fact, my diary is not a very foody place at all, I really should start talking more about food!

OH has just done the first diet-related thing to annoy me: we bought a BNS to go with todays sunday lunch and he's cooked it, mashed it up, then put HALF A BLOCK OF CHEESE in it. Like, so much cheese that I couldn't even have a spoonful of it. The bugger :sigh:

Also, celeriac chips smell ok to me (sorry Pie) so I'm thoroughly looking forward to them :D

I think I got lucky with my BB creams - twice actually! (that's what she said) The 2 I've tried match my skin tone (the problem with these is the 1 shade range!) and I really like them as a basic foundation. They're skin79, probably fake as from eBay but they've not burnt my skin or anything! I'm on my phone so can't link but the 2 I use, one is called oriental gold, the other is intense classic balm. I prefer the oriental gold as its more liquidy and feels light on the skin, the classic balm is thick and harder to work with. When I say they match my skin, they are really dark when first squeezed out but once they're on my face they match, it's weird. I'm Scottish so I have that milk bottle white colouring, with redness on my cheeks, and this stuff takes the red away and gives me an even skin tone. No orangeness, no tide line! Magic I say :D

I want to try the Garnier one but haven't had the money to spare on non essentials recently.

I might have a looky, what I didn't like about the last one was the consistency- it left what felt like a film of stickyness on my skin even though I wasn't sticky- but when I smiled it felt stiff iykwim? Then I started getting weird spots- like small volcanoes under my skin. Pretty uncomfortable. Skin79 you say?

I've remembered! It was a Skin Food one from Singapore. It wasn't as pricey as I thought- $29.90, but not worth it. Put me off their entire range akshually

Also, celeriac chips smell ok to me (sorry Pie) so I'm thoroughly looking forward to them :D

It's just a really strong celery smell - which I cannot stand personally! :jelous:

Well I must say I've had my celeriac and I thought it tasted like parsnip? Nothing groundbreaking but would defo have it on my roast as a superfree instead of parsnips and roasties.

Anyway, in an attempt to make this diary more "foody", here is my tea:

ForumRunner_20120226_191416.jpg

Chicken breast, couple of sw roasties, roasted carrot, parsnip and celeriac, carrot and swede mash, broccoli, sprouts and cabbage. Defo more than a third superfree :D

Still hungry, would you believe!

Mmmmm, apart from the Sprouts that looks delish! Wish I'd have done a roast now... did a stir fry and it just tasted rubbish and bland, don't know what went wrong... so I left most of it and now I'm still hungry!

I thought I'd allow myself a roast because I'll be eating crap stir fry all week!! Haha.

Haha, oh yeah forgot about your Stir Fry week - eek! I get bored after one. Good Luck! :p

i feel like i'm back in erm's diary.. more celeriac! :D

there are some nice celeriac soup recipes.. delia does a lush one :D its horrible as mash though.. dead watery i think :(

also going back over a week or so.. I heart those shoes!

Oh my V-day pressie?? OH managed to pick them himself  He got me an egg poacher for Xmas so I was shocked to say the least!

I'm not going to go too mad on the old celeriac as I reckon I'll go off it pretty soon! Generally anything that requires too much effort does not become a staple of the VonSavage kitchen

I have a fear of celeraic, it just looks so damn creepy! :jelous: Also looks like it may require an axe or chainsaw to get through it. That's why I love green days no need to substitute potatoes for any wierd veggies can just enjoy potatoes in their many tasty forms! :D Oh and it means I get double the HEs which means more chocolate milk and pitta pizzas

X

I suppose we can technically enjoy a lot of potato on EE too but when I do that I stop pooing, haha, so it's not recommended :sick0019:

It was quite hard to cut through and such an odd nobbly shape!

Forgot to say- My eyes didn't fall out after last nights Revitalash application :D

Alright Barry :D

Firstly- you don't have to spend a fortune on makeup to have fun with it. Invest in an eye primer such as Urban Decay Potion and it will increase the longevity and pigmentation of even your cheapest eyeshadow. Secondly, Ebay is full of Chinese made palettes that are cheap as chips but the quality of the shadow is good enough for personal use and the colour selection is epic! Most beauty students pick up the 120 palette or the 28 palettes for practice- tbh I'll sometimes still get mine out- especially around Halloween :D

You really can't complain for £9.

Foundation- ooh- that's always a hard question because I think it all comes down to personal preference. I personally HATE Bobbi Brown foundations but I know people, other artists, who swear by them. I'm going to give you a selection of my fave foundations, all price ranges considered:

OK So my all time personal fave is Kanebo Cellular Performance Total Finish Foundation which, at £52 isn't cheap but is definitely worth it as a one step matte finish. I use this daily as it's easy to apply and it stays put.

My second fave is Laura Geller Phenomenol Foundation, £30 ish once you pay p&p(QVC is my preferred supplier as I used to work for them). Once again this gives a flawless finish but I think it needs to be worked into the skin with a brush more than the Kanebo one. Also, it comes in a limited choice of colours so I always add to this with a dusting of LG Balance & Brighten Powder Foundation. This is the foundation I use in my kit, although I keep a huge variety of samples about my person "just in case". May I add- I'd reccommend any of Laura Geller's product's and I appreciate that it can be pricey, but I prefer all of her stuff to the minefield of products they sell in John Lewis or Debenhams.

A close third and a similar price: MAC Studio Sculp is a gel based foundation particularly good for oily skin types and those who suffer with enlarged pores. Once again, needs a good buffing into the skin with a brush and will benefit from a finishing powder especially on warmer days. If you are able to get to a MAC store or counter it's always worth discussing the foundation options with the well-trained staff who *aren't on commission*. Their range of base products is fantastic but don't let them con you into getting a primer- I can suggest a much better primer. I am not a huge fan of MAC, but I can't champion their bases enough :)

Bare Minerals is a miracle of a product but it needs some confidence. It does not give a fantastic coverage so if your skin is not great you will be disappointed with it- but stick to it. Regular use will actually improve your skin, and then when you use it you don't need a heavy coverage. I take this on holiday with me and use it on younger clients whose skin just needs a bit if a touch up, but I wouldn't use this daily as I prefer a much more preened look.

Now for high street varieties of foundation- I don't use any of these professionally but I think they deserve a mention. I keep these in the house for when I'm skint and have ran out of the expensive stuff. Honestly, there is no competition between these and those listed above- i can see the difference in quality a mile off, but these can all work if you take the time to apply them properly and use the correct finishing products. When it comes to makeup, I think foundation is the one area in which money makes a difference :sigh:
Revlon Colourstay £13 ish
Avon Flawless Cream to Powder £10ish
Gosh X-Ceptional Wear £8ish
Maybelline Dream Matte Mouse £6ish- this seems to be the marmite of the high street makeup world! You either love it or hate it, but if you are on a budget it's worth a shot! Invest in a foundation brush and a light finishing powder

Hope this points you in the right direction Barry :D
I also must add that for a budget brand Collection 2000 is great! I love their Mosaic Glow bronzer although it's quite dark, and their glitter liners are fab. Plus, Laval, that market stall brand- I can't say much good about the whole range but the lipliners and lipsticks are great, and for £1 I don't care if I get pissed and lose it

Ooh thanks Jez!! Loads of 'food for thought' there lol!! LOVE make up talk! Much more exciting than, ahem, food talk!
Just one more quickie - forgot to say, I have really dry skin and always have to have the lightest shade 'cos otherwise I look like an orange :D I am very pale, although now I'm getting on a bit, the skin on my face likes to randomly turn red-purple lol. It runs in the family sadly. Used to be quite attractive as I'd go a delicate pink colour in my 20s. Now I just look like a beetroot :8855:!
PRIMER: It's like when you have to put a "base coat" on your walls before decorating. Actually, there are a lot of similarities between makeup and decorating.

If you are young and good looking (which we all are ;)) you don't need a face primer, but I would say eye primer is my number 1 product because it means I can throw any old cheap crap on my eyes and it stays there without creasing :D

Think I need primer!! I use the Barry M soft pencils on my eyes as primer if I'm having a good make up day. My usual workday make up is rushed - not Barry M - and looks crap :sigh:

Yay for Jez's make up diary!!!! xxx

Bah!!!! It is very subjective isn't it - but I'd trust your word Jez being the expert xxx

Looked everywhere for celeriac in Tesco; couldn't find any. Really curious about the stuff. Can you get it from the supermarkets or does it have to be a specialist place?? xxx
