Newbie Slimming world - help!

I just wanted to get some advice from people on here. I joined slimming world previously and gained about 8lbs in my first week and i stopped going because i was so down about it.

I have re-joined and i want to know, has anyone else gained in their first week? is it normal to gain such a big amount?

today i wasn't that hungry so I had a warburtons square wrap (8syns), passata and cheese (hex) and i've had 3 small bananas today, a coffee and some diet coke. Am i on the right tracks?

tomorrow i plan on having cornflakes (5syns), milk (hex), tomato soup (home made 0 syns), bananas inbetween and for dinner i plan on having boiled rice with lots of vegtables and some soy sauce. i am cutting out syns in meals as i plan on having a lattee tomorrow. :)

i hope someone can help me out as I am really confused with this whole slimming world thing. I will speak to my consultant proparly next time, was a bit shy lol.
:)

Ok- quoting your post- my reply is the stuff in bold :)

I have heard of a few people gain the odd lb, but never that much. What plan were you following?

Is that all you had all day? again, what plan are you on? if you are on EE then there isn't enough supefree there. bananas are ok, but maybe jazz it up a bit with different fruits or veggies. Where was your healthy B choice?

tomorrow i plan on having cornflakes (5syns), milk (hex), tomato soup (home made 0 syns), bananas inbetween and for dinner i plan on having boiled rice with lots of vegtables and some soy sauce. i am cutting out syns in meals as i plan on having a lattee tomorrow. :)

That doesnt sound bad, but again, where's the healthy B? or is cornflakes a healthy extra? (i know you're synning it but i dunno if cornflakes are on the list). sounds better with more superfree in your day, are you not a meat eater? i see no meat in your diet. if you're following green days, then you'e definitely not having enough healthy extras

i hope someone can help me out as I am really confused with this whole slimming world thing. I will speak to my consultant proparly next time, was a bit shy lol.

I am following EE plan. Yeah, i thought today i didn't have enough fruit or veg. I'm not really a fruit person, so usually sit with a bowl of brocolli (sounds boring but i enjoy it) so will try and fit more in.

I am still unsure of he B - in the book there isn't much choices. I dont eat bread really. So was unsure on what to have. Do you NEED to eat both Healthy Extras?

I'm not really a meal person until night time. I usually eat chicken or extra lean mince. But dont plan on having meat tomorrow. I had a bit of smoked sausage on my warburtons squareish earlier on today, i forgot to put that in lol.

thank you for your reply! I think maybe I've been eating less than I am meant to and maybe thats why the weight isn't shifting. I need to speak up at meetings, i just get too embarassed when I gained that amount of weight and really scared of it happening again.

Tomorrow I plan on snacking on some boiled eggs and some fruit and veg.

Healthy extras are an important part of the plan- so you get enough calcium (HEA) and fibre (HEB) in your diet.

Have you tried the hifi bars? or maybe alpen light bars? You can have either 1 or 2 of them as a HEB (depending on what you have- big hifi bars are 1 for a HEB and alpen lights or hifi lights are 2 for a HEB). There is also different cereals (porridge, all bran, bran flakes, weetabix etc) that you can have, or ryvita if you like them (either 2 or 4 are a healthy B, depending on if you want 2 or 4, lol)

Any kind of superfree is fine, a bowl of broccoli is fine- i've been known to nom on a bag of rocket salad on occasion! The point of superfree is to basically fill you up on low-calorie foods (thats not how its meant to be seen, but its true). try to make sure that 1/3 of your daily intake of food is superfree- fruit or veggies. or just veggies, it doesn't matter as long as you're eating enough.

I would suggest doing a food diary on here, there is a section where you can start your own, and people might read it and give you suggestions, a lot of people find that helpful :)

In regards to talking at group- if you are shy- take it easy- honestly. Don't push yourself too much to talk openly in front of everyone. Remember- the point of SW is to lose weight without any of the horrible humiliation that most (if not all) of us have suffered with in the past. If you gain, you gain. We're all human, we all struggle. People are at group because they want to lose weight (or they want to maintain- but have already been where you are) we are all in this together, on the same journey. But, don't think that you have to talk about everything to everyone.

It took me about 4 months to talk openly to my consultant. And that was just talking to her 1 to 1. I have started to open up at group, when I'm struggling or whatever, because even though I'm loud, I can be painfully shy- I'm just good at hiding it!

Wow- I can't half ramble eh? lol

Thank you very much, I'll maybe try the alpen light bars. :) I usually only have milk or cheese in a day lol, but will deffo go for my alpen bars now. :) i'm gonna buy some wheatabix tomorrow, as I'm only eating cornflakes because thats all I have lol. They count as a syn, i asked about that and she said they are 5 syns for a 28g bowl.

I'll eat lots more veg and some fruit aswell. I only eat a small portion of meat, i do like it but prefer pastas, rice, veg etc.

I'll go onto the food diary right now, that sounds a big help! thank you :)

well done on your loss, you are doing great! :)
&thank you for your advice. I know now I need to eat more!!!! lol and eat more superfree and i'll get there. It's such a worry to think i could end up gaining again. I think the last time all i ate was bananas and i think that might have added to my gain lol.

Well done for being able to speak now! as u say, it takes time and we are all in the same position and thats a comfort that nobody is there to judge, they are there to loose also. :)

thanks again!

you're more than welcome- it's my pleasure :)

Eating more can be the key to SW, and it was something that took me a little while to accept. but now I'm ok with it- and I love eating like a pig, heehee.

If you happen to gain, then really don't worry about it. give it a few weeks. I think there's a guarantee- 4 weeks i believe. if you stick to plan 100% and do food diaries every day (there should be some in your pack) and still not lose, then you get your money back.

My C has been doing it for 15 years and apparently has not had to do a refund at all in that time.

of course- it is possible to not lose, BUT it might just be that you're either eating something that you think is free and really isn't, or you're not eating enough....actually there could be a few factors- another reason why food diaries help a tonne, if people see them and make suggestions/pointers, you might be able to move forwards (and lose :) )

Check out the SW pages though, either for recipes, or there are a few threads that keep us motivated. There's a section where you can join a thread and chat to people who are in the same stone bracket as you (i'm in the 16's so im in the 16's to 15's thread :) )

This site really helps me, i have days where im struggling and people on here are a great pick me up- so keep coming back here, it might just help you too! :)

Do tinned cans of veg count as superfree? like sweetcorn, or chickenpeas, peas, carrots?

ahh yes and no.

sweetcorn, chickpeas and peas are not superfree. I think that's because they're not free on red days (superfree is fruit and veg that are free on both red AND green days)

I googled if tinned carrots were SF and it showed me this thread:

Superfree Foods – Speed – Vegetables | Healthy Diet Recipes

as far as I can see, it's accurate. I'll see if theres a thread about it on here

thank you :) this is where i went wrong previously, i was eating things like sweetcorn with meals thinking that was my superfree foods and I was eating bananas all the time. I realise now, this is why i gained and never lost!

thank you so much! what a help :)

If you don't each much meat then green days may suit you better have a look in yur book or chat to your consultant, you could always call her if that is easier, let her know you are shy. A good consultant will take note of that.

If you are a group member you should have access to the member's section of the SW website. You will find huge lists of healthy extras there. it's not just about bread and cereal, you could have tinned/stewed/dried fruit, crackerbreads, tinned soup etc. So well worth checking them out.

You will also find information on which foods are freem superfreem speed, superspeed etc.

What was your eating like before you joined SW this time around? its impossible to put on 8lbs of a fat in a week even if you were making a few mistakes with the plan. So it is likely to be fluid retention which should disappear as soon as your body settles. Were you doing a very low calorie, food replacement or low carb diet before because that could easily explain the gain.

I have never heard of anyone putting on weight to this extent whilst practising the healthiest eating plan there is which is what SW is.

You obviously need a lot of help with understanding the concept of SW and if you are a paying member of a group you should be able to get all the help you need there. As has already been said you have access to the SW website as well. There are some fabulous diet plans on there, Perhaps following some of the recipes on there would help you.

This site is amazing. You will find so much help here as you have already seen especially from Littleflutterby.

Good luck.

Thank u for your replies.
I called my consultant but she said she'll ring me back. I've been on
The site and I just find everything soooo confusing! I think I have had a good day
But then checked the sw site and think I've done it wrong today!!!!
I'm meant to be on EE and I think I've had a greenday...unsure! Can anyone
Tell me what kind of day I've had lol.

I had scrambled egg with milk from hea and beans for breakfast
lunch I had home made tomato soup made with passata, chopped tomatos,
Celery, carrots and onions. And 2 clementines
Dinner I had 2 richmond frozen sausages which on sw site says is 4 syns each
Beans and a load of brocolli
Snacks I had clementines, banana and 2 alpen bars from heb. And a skinny latte.

I am soooo confused! I have checked the slimming world site and with a green day
I believe ur allowed some meat, with ee plan I don't think I've eaten enough meat! Ahhhh!!!

Yes I saw the recipes etc, I am going to either make the sw burgers tomorrow
And slimming world chips!!! How amazing, I didn't know these existed lolol.
And I'm deffinatley going to attempt the diet coke chicken! Who'd have thought those
Thing went together?! Can't wait to try it! Will attemp the quiches aswell.

I like how I can use the site to count my syns etc if I am unsure.

This is fine for breakfast, the only thing you're missing, if doing EE, is your 1/3 superfree

lunch I had home made tomato soup made with passata, chopped tomatos,
Celery, carrots and onions. And 2 clementines

This is ok for lunch, theres lack of free food but you can never have too many superfree. I'd maybe suggest snacking on a few hard boiled eggs to even it up

Dinner I had 2 richmond frozen sausages which on sw site says is 4 syns each
Beans and a load of brocolli

This is better :)

Snacks I had clementines, banana and 2 alpen bars from heb. And a skinny latte.

You dont HAVE to eat meat every day on EE. As long as your plate is filled 1/3 superfree and 2/3 free it doesnt matter. You could have pasta or rice instead of meat.. they're still free foods! Jacket potatoes are free...

Heres an example.. you could have 1 jacket potato topped with 2 tsp of extra light marge (0.5 syn per tsp) with healthy extra A of cheese on top with baked beans and a side salad.

Jacket potato FREE baked beans FREE side salad SUPERFREE

I was in the same boat as you hun when I first started. Take a look at my diary if you need some help. There's a link in my signature :) x
