Not losing weight!

Hi all, I'm new to this site (well it appears I've had an account for a while!) and am needing some help!

I'm 5ft4, weigh 11stone 11.

I was on SW (not the classes, just by myself at home) for about 3 weeks and didn't lose any weight. Fair enough, I thought, I probably wasn't following it very well and portion sizes were still big.

2 weeks ago I decided to change to calorie counting, and was on 1200 cals a day, doing an exercise DVD 3 times a week and swimming for an hour once a week, sometimes eating my exercise calories and sometimes not. I've been using MFP to track absolutely everything I eat, no cheating at all!! I haven't lost a single lb so far...

I'm 5ft4, weigh 11stone 11.

what am I doing wrong? about 2 years ago I did WW and lost 15lbs overall, getting down to 9stone 13 so I know my body is capable of it, when I was doing WW I lost 5.5lbs in the first week!!

Help!! x

Hi Strawberry!

When I first started decided to lose weight I was doing SW at home on my own too and didn't lose anything! I then started going to the classes and learnt about the diet properly which worked and I lost a stone over a year (including lots of holidays and naughty weeks). I've now decided to do the Cambridge Diet and I have lost half a stone in two weeks.

I think it's all about learning about the diet properly and doing it through a class/consultant. When you did WW did you do it at a class/group? x

When I did WW I did go to classes for the first 2 or so months, but I only used to get weighed and not bother staying for the class bits!

Aah. Maybe try something where you get weighed in and stay for the classes until you feel comfortable enough to go it alone? Also do you think you might be losing inches? You might not be losing any weight because you're doing lots of exercise too?? Muscle weighs more than fat n all :p x

Thanks waffles, maybe I'll start WW again... its hard for me though as I work shifts, a bit of a pain getting to the classes all the time!

Havent lost any inches yet, and I dont think its muscle as my body fat % has stayed the same... I just dont get it!! :(

I used to work shifts too - it was such a pain!

I hope whatever you choose it works :)

Hi, MFP puts many people on 1200 calories and often it's not enough. If you calculate your BMR then you can work out from there your daily calorie needs using the Harris Benedict equation, and then subtract a deficit to lose weight (15-20% is a good start, you can then adjust depending on how things go). I use this site which has all the info to do that:

http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

A sample could be:

BMR: 1585

Daily calorie needs: 1585 x 1.375 (light activity level) = 2,179

Calorie goal: 2,179 x 0.8 = 1743

Once you've got the right personalised calorie goal, eating back your exercise calories keeps everything in balance.

Good luck!
