Odd comments from friend and OH

I think the bmi ranges are defined by the World Health Association. I agree that the bmi meansure is far from ideal. However, I don't think it's completely out for me. I have another 1.5 stone to get to a healthy bmi and I can see where that will come from. I just don't know whether it makes sense to go any lower. I'll have to make that decision when I get there.

Phoenix - your highest weight for bmi seems very low - are you around 4 ft 10?

Your far better off doing it on waist:hip ratio. In reality there are a number of different measurements that should be used to define whether you are a healthy weight however for simplicity (as for the average human more than one thing is far too complicated) they choose one, which in this case in BMI.

sorry weasey I was guessing and said "something like " for my ideal weight range , but i have seen something that low before

it also depends on which chart you look at , im going to check out who now

Im actually more concerned with my waist size and how i look in the mirror , /i think counting down the numbers on the scales is just something to focus on and to check things are going in the right direction , whether i end up being happy at 8 stone 9 stone or 100 stone really doesnt matter to me , its my health and happiness that will decide where i end up , and that pair of size 12 jeans hanging in my wardrobe !!

Funny! Yes I agree with the size thing. To be honest I'm in a quandry about when to stop. I'm the smallest I've ever been now so I have no idea. I kind of think that size might be a better measure than weight but I've had in my head that I want to get to a healthy weight range. I'm currently a size 14 or 16 depending on the shop so I think if I lost the 1.5 stone to get me to a healthy level I would be a 12/14. I'd like to be a 10/12 I think so perhaps everything fits together. It's really hard to know. More and more people are asking me how much more I intend to lose and I'm sure that they think it strange when I say I don't know...

hmmmm interesting !! I never considered that I might get to a point where im not sure if i should lose more or not

i suppose you just assume you will know

my problem is Ive been overweight to a more or lesser extent for 10 to 15 years , depending on how you look at it and ive never seen my 41 yr old face without the plumpness that brings with it , i have a feeling that the "oh you dont look that old" comments will stop

so im aiming for the tipping point where i can live with my body and my face , not sure where that will be til I get there , its either that or a choice between a face lift or a tummy tuck ha ha

I'm in the same position. I don't think you can use other people's opinions either in deciding when to stop. They are so used to seeing you as bigger - particularly if like me you have always been bigger - that because there has been a big change they think you have lost lots and should stop. People keep telling me that they don't see where I have to lose more weight - but I do - my tummy and thighs particularly! These areas are covered by my clothes so it's good that they don't see them because that's the point! Also, I heard that 60% of women in th uk are overweight or obese so you can't even take the average person's size as appropriate. Although of course that supposes that bmi is a reasonable measure - which it isn't.

All that waffle and I end up with the same conclusion - no idea how much more I want to lose but at least 1.5 stone!
