Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: From Conception to Birth, and Beyond!

I never had any side effects with depo but when I saw a different doctor for my third one she told me if we struggled to conceive we wouldn't get help for two years (I now know that's not true in my area) and that prolonged use can cause weakening of the bones (not sure how true that is!). Didn't have it, started ttc that day!!!

OMG really?!?! I wonder if that's why I broke BoTH my knee caps?!?!
Yes actually snapped one knee cap and when having it glued together and pinned (which involved them cutting my shin bone and re-setting it) they looked at my other knee to see it was also broken and had been for some time!!
So a year later I had that one pinned too!!

Ouch, I actually just flinched at the thought of that!! That must have been horrendous.
I wasn't sure how true it was (still aren't) but I mentioned it to a friend who used to be on depo and she said that's why she came off it. I think (if it's true) it would have to be long term use. For once, I never actually googled!!

So I googled. And got this:

Use of Depo-Provera CI may cause you to lose calcium stored in your bone and decrease your bone mass. The longer you use Depo-Provera CI, the greater your loss of calcium from your bones. Your bones may not recover completely when you stop using Depo-Provera CI.
If you use Depo-Provera CI continuously for a long time (for more than 2 years), it may increase the risk of weak, porous bones (osteoporosis) that could increase the risk of broken bones, especially after menopause.
You should not use Depo-Provera CI for more than two years unless you cannot use other birth control methods.

It definitely does weaken the bones it's quite a nasty drug and I never recommend it to teens young women unless there is absolutely nothing else they can use.

I was never told that when I got it.
Thankfully only had 1 month if it n never got it topped up!! Wud never get it again. Took 10 months after 1 shot to get my period back!!!

Thought I would share this - it's the weaning leaflet with all the latest advice that my HV gave me. It's v useful! x http://www.nhs.uk/start4life/documents/pdfs/introducing_solid_foods.pdf

Awww thanks for that - I've just given it a thorough read :)

Def going to try finger foods again! :) he only eats smooth things at the moment so need a few lumps in there now I think :) although he does have weetabix which is much thicker and a different texture!

My HV is useless. Haven't seen her since feb and she said she would see me in August - 'you will have weaned him by then, be careful with his allergy' - that was all I got from her!! Thank god for the Internet lol xx

Ladies please help!!

Jacob had baby eczema always around Christmas time on his chin/cheeks. But only slightly around Oct/Nov and usually gone by Feb/March.

Well this time his face is terrible. I keep thinking oh finally it's almost going away then it gets a lot worse again.

Today he woke up and it's spread loads and I feel real sad about it, my poor baby :'(
Anyone advice anything to use or do??

It's more red patches and abit lumpy, thankfully it doesnt bother him!!!!

Hey Jess what do you use now have you seen your gp?
He probably needs a mix of emollient and steroid and also bathe him in something like doublebase is it just his face or all over?

Hi. I don't no whether you have tried Aveeno cream. It was excellent for my sons eczema. It's all natural ingredients too. X

I have used god knows how many creams. I'm fedup of trying with doctors!

He was on a steroid one 3 times a day and another once a day... But it just got worse after some.

I don't use perfumed products in bath etc incase makes it worse, I also use something called aqueous cream for the dryness which did help, it's just all red now :/

It's only his face too so I don't think it's from products I use xx

Poor little dude :( Do you have a Lush nearby? If you do, ask for a free sample of Dream Cream. I used to work there and we had a lot of customers who bought it for eczema. It's suitable for kids but it is pricy so I would recommend getting a sample first to see if it works. Might be worth a go though? xxx

we have one in our main town about 40mins away but im there next week for Hospital anyway so il make a visit and ask. Thank you xx

Poor little man. Could it be food allergy related? Tomatoes? Milk? Gluten? Xx

Was what I was going to say! It's is some times a food allergy - my friends little girl was allergic to.. Critus fruit e.g: oranges etc, milk, nuts inc. tree nuts, gluten. Once these things had been removed her rashes cleared up.. My friend had allergy testing done to confirm it.

Il have to see and maybe cut some stuff out to see if it could be that. X

TMI post alert...

So I'm on the depo injection which has just about stopped my periods. I have still tracked the spotting I've had on my phone app and it says my cycle is 34 days long.

Anyway, I just went for a poo and there was 'pressure' - when I wiped there was quite a lot of blood and clotty stringy bits too...any idea why??
