Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: From Conception to Birth, and Beyond!

I think it's normal at that age Hun there stomachs are only tiny so little and often is good :) one she gets older I'm sure she will go longer before each feed. I wouldn't be too concerned if she's taking it well x

Yup little and often is fine and they cluster feed a lot when they are this small. Annoying for you but it will level out soon enough. X

Yes definitely normal. Connor went through a stage of having a oz a hour! Xx

Connor is just over 5 weeks, must of been about 2.5/3weeks he had 10oz over 2 hours!! So I never look at what should have because of weight or age. If their hungry then feed :)
I'd worry if started not having enough xx

Yeh I totally agree with you. I think my mother inlaw got me worrying because she said when her son had colic (29 yrs ago) lol.. He wouldn't stop feeding, she said drinking eased the belly ache! but from what I've read they none stop cry with colic n she stops crying once fed. xx

Yeh colic usually happens in the evenings and it's crying when there's nothing wrong (food, bum, wind).
Oliver fed frequently for the first 2 weeks and then soon settled into going 3 hours between feeds.
Their tummies are little and can't handle much milk at that early stage x

And yeh never look at what an 'average' baby should have cos there's no such thing!!!
For his age, Oliver should be having 6x 5oz bottles a day- but he's the weight of a 12 week old!
So I give him what he needs x

Yeah you will tell if they have it. Connor does but only mildly. And it mid feeds what affect him too, screaming and pulling legs up.
Had a few episodes of him been really unsettled. Not even booby cuddles worked!! Lol. He usually loves been laid down my front with his head on my boobs. Favorite way of setting x

The booby cuddles not the colic!! Xx

Ksm did you say your husband was a dentist? I'm really worried I require 2 fillings after the birth and I intend to breast feed they will be the silver fillings and will contain mercury things I have read seem to say delay if possible. I've just phoned my dental practice and was told it was safe but I can delay it. One is for a decaying tooth she said now I'm wondering If it is safe I have no pain with my tooth ATM I know it sounds neurotic but there's a lot of scary stuff about amalga drilling and mercury getting to breast milk arggggh

I agree Frances and it's just a guide not all babies will feed the same, you can't really over feed a baby at this stage as they just throw it back up!

Regarding amalgam there is little evidence that it could cause harm but if something did happen you would always question if the filling is to blame.
I broke my tooth in labour and had a white temporary filling and then when I had stopped breast feeding I got the root canal done which will be followed by a crown. Luke is pretty anti amalgam all the time lol he just doesn't like it!
If they are not painful I would try and leave it and if it bothers you ask for white fillings.

Xx

P.s there is more mercury passed in breast milk from a tin of tuna I believe!!

Thanks ladies, had health visitor round this morning and she's pretty much said the same as you. It's hard to know what's right being a new mummy xx
