I've been lurking about for ages wondering. I'm nervous but can u do a VLCD if you are on mental health medication? I told slim and save and they said no. But But my GP gave me the all clear. Confused about this. Rob was very nice about it but if my GP said its ok then I can't understand why they said no.

I don't know the official line but I've been on anti depressants doing s&s last year and was fine. I'd say as long as your GP is happy go for it,

Thanks but they won't let me order now!! I can't ask my mum to get it for me cuz she's not well herself. Not unless I give a false address. My laptop has broke though. So can't order online :((((((((

They want to cover their interests. Different people can react to a VLCD + medication differently and there is NO way to predict this. Some people are fine, but - with medication you should be careful.

My OH's mum, for example, is bi-polar and is sensitive to fluctuations of her medication's concentration within her body. She would not do this diet for this reason.

The increased fluid intake on this diet may dilute your dosage and bring unwanted side-effects.

I used to be on anti-psychotic medication when I was 19 and when I came off it - the withdrawal effects were rather spectacular for a few months. Imagine your body not getting what it's supposed to because it's all getting wee'd out! Not nice.

So S&S are looking out for you as well as looking after their business! :)

Yes I can see that but my GP is top notch you know what i mean. Ketosis actually helps depression. I wish I wasn't so bloody honest. But I can see their point I suppose.!

Have you told Rob that your GP is fine with it?

Yes I did and he said he would speak to the nutrition person. My GP is head of my surgery. But he still said no, I can't understand it all. I'm very upset indeed.

I slammed the phone down. I will find a way to get round this.

Good attitude. S&S are being responsible in checking for themselves. Slamming the phone down when they're offering to find out more and then talking about using false details to order is a great way to handle it.

Different vlcd companies have different criteria. S&S are probably more reluctant because unlike CD etc youre not seeing counsellors etc youre doing it alone so there's noone to monitor you. Maybe you'd be better trying one where youre monitored

I think its admirable that S&S are putting peoples health before their profits

Batty - it's upsetting but don't give up.

Why don't you try lipotrim from your chemist or exante which you can order online?

I do have to agree with Rob here, and that's not about your health condition or the level of experience of your gp. The things you have posted on this thread are of concern, as Starlight has highlighted already - and this is without having anything affecting your current medication. I can understand your frustrations, but how this is coming out already indicates to my untrained eye that Robs decision is the right one. And how refreshing it is to come across a company with moral standards too.

Funny one that - because ketosis makes my depression far worse...

Weird that, being in ketosis makes my depression little better, I have so much more energy (during the day).

Strange how it affects everyone different.... x

I think that's the point, ketosis affects each person differently and so they have absolutely no idea how it will affect each individual person. I can understand Rob's decision to be honest, I think it's one that's based on the OP's health and well being rather than their desire to make money and so I have massive respect for them for that reason.

Battybelle your GP may say that it's ok but they don't necessarily know all the ins and outs of Slim and Save specifically. Rob has spoken to their nutritionist and made a decision based upon what they genuinely think is best for you, I can understand that you're annoyed but you need to think about that and the way that you treat them. It's not their fault, they're trying to help you.

Could you consider something else like Slimming World?

I feel sorry for the OP, I choose not to mention my anxiety disorder because I'm sensible enough to have stopped this vlcd if my mental health was negatively affected. Thankfully either the diet itself has caused a massive improvement or the omega 3, 6 & 9 I have taken since I started. Either way I'm delighted to be feeling much stronger. Big up to Rob though for putting a potential customer before profit. It just shows what a great company they are. I would find their caution frustrating though. In my case, if the same caution had prevented me doing this (cos I need marriage saving surgery), I'd be devastated.

Best of luck to the OP with whatever she decides to do xx
