Do you know I think this is a good question, I started the diet in June and almost from day one I had it planned that i would cheat on my birthday in August. I had some chocs, crisps, homegrown jacket potato and ice cream. Sounds loads but in reality it wasn't because i didn't pig out on each thing. I didn't gain the next day, but the day after I put a pound on, but the next day I was straight back on the wagon and following the diet.
i think it all depends on the day etc like Laura said. Life gets in the way and there are times when a single cheat can lift the mood/day, or an occasion occurs when you have no choice, for instance, going out shopping for the day with my Mum we couldn't find anywhere that sold food I could eat on a PV day, so we ended up in a little cafe where I have a ham salad sandwich, I felt very bloated and in a bit of pain later on that day, but it was that or nothing...which wasn't an option. I have been feeling really low about stuff and I kept thinking about the snickers ice creams in the freezer. I resisted for a week and finally last night I had one. It was so delicious, but it didn't make me want to go and eat the whole box, and this morning I started a new day with a new sense of calm, I know it sounds cliched but I really do feel better for it.
But I also think that it depends on how much you have to lose, everyone is different and the reason we are following the diet is because we all want to lose weight, and its a struggle for everyone. But, without meaning to offend anyone at all, the more someone has to lose the longer it will take. Personally I have 6 stone to lose, I am half way there. it will take me til at least next March to get there, thats 9 months. I think the odd thing I might cheat on will help me to make the journey bareable.
I feel very very focused on this diet, I am so determined to lose this weight, and having lost over 3 stone I am very proud of myself. the last time i lost a large amount was over 20 years ago, this is the lowest weight now i have been in about 12 years. So although i do love the diet, love the cooking and variety I have discoverd. I personally don't mind having the odd cheat (probably averages about once every two months) because I know I am in control and I will not spiral out of control.
Ann If you have a bad day, in the future, and you feel you need to have a little something, just make sure you stay in control.
Good luck hunni. Keep on Dukaning
