Running after 5k

I'm finishing my beginners course today (wasn't doing the couch to 5k but another similar one at a running club) I know a few people are doing or have done the couch to 5k and we have lots of runners on here who didn't do that as well.
I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread for us to discuss our running beyond the couch to 5k.

I have my last day today and it will be running 30 minutes none stop, we've been doing over 3 miles for quite a few weeks now and last week we did an extra lap so did just over 4 miles. I'm really enjoying the course and can't wait to join the proper running club.

I'm doing a Santa's on the run race this Sunday and will be running 4.4 miles dressed as Santa. I can't wait. Hopefully I'll do it in a good time, but I'll be happy as long as I finish it as one of my problems with running is when I get too hot (and I imagine I'll get very hot in the santa suit) but I want to keep running over summer so need to try and get over my heat problems.

Well done donna - I can't run to save my life

When I was in the Army I used to opt for the step test for the annual fitness test - on the one & only time I attempted the run, I was in Germany and we had to jog about 100 metres to hang a right & make a start but as soon as we got to the turn, the road ahead was so straight it just seemed to go on & on & on forever. My breathing went to pot so I just turned around and went to my room for a cup of tea :D

Was looking at the bupa half marathon 12 week programme and was thinking about starting that in the new year if you fancied it?

Sounds good :) my mum has a program somewhere but I could look this one up, they're probably about the same anyway. Will be great to have something to focus on after Christmas

Hey! I've done a 5k programme at the start of this year so I'd like to have something to push me on now. How do you find running at this time of year? Where do you all do it? I've found myself going less and less really have to push myself to go!

I've struggled this week, I did a santa run on Sunday, I usually go to my running club on a Tuesday and Thursday but didn't go yesterday as its bitterly cold and icy and can't see me going tomorrow as its suppose to be the same :( I manage to force myself out when its cold as I'm going to the club but when its this bad I just don't want to risk getting ill or driving on the icy roads at night.

I do a run inside on the weekend on my own as well, will find it so much easier when its a little warmer though (not looking forward to summer mind as I do get too hot running as well)

I'm def doing the half marathon in March :) want to get a few shorter runs in before then as well, also going to see if I can do a half marathon in May, there's one in October I want to do so going to try for at least 3 half marathons in 2013... might see if I can fit another one in between May and October
