getting there slowly
I too was diagnosed with diabetes about 4 years ago, also at the same time was diagnosed with under active thyroid and high cholesterol (6.7), I have tried and tried but can't get along with the tablets, started with Metformin 850mg, then moved to 500mg, then moved to the 500g twice a day and Gliclazide 80mg once a day and then just the Gliclazide on it's own and then the last one...I forget the name even, but about 1 year ago I stopped taking them as they were just making me feel sick, bloated and really gassy (burping eggs all the time) and it really was getting me down, and that's when I really decided the only way I could help myself was to stop taking the tablets and get going seriously with the diet and exercise ..the only tablet I take now is for the thyroid and even that isn't that bad only on 25mg of throxin a day...my cholesterol is now 4.2 and my BS is sitting about 6.9, still a little high but it was originally in the 20+ range, so doctor and I are both happy with that and as I have the skin condition I have blood tests almost every month as the tabs for that can cause kidney failure and they are very happy with my stats too.
I used to weigh in the region of 16 st until I had an accident 14 years ago, the hospital basically wrote me off and I went home and I did the same and in less that 2 years I was 31st+ stayed that way for years and then just about 3 years ago decided enough was enough and here I am now lol and I will NEVER go back to that again...I actually feel alive for a change lol xx
Lily I also have under active thyroid and I take 200mg aday of throxin and 4 x 500mg metformin, my cololesterol is normal but I have high blood pressure, going to the diabetes clinic on tuesday 1st time since joining sw and doing the exercise, hope I can reduce my tablets, went to my sons bbq today he has not see me since starting sw and exercising, they notice I have lost weight and have a good healthy complexion, I was over the moon and had tears in my eyes that they notice, I know my hubby tells me but its nice when other people can tell, it makes it worth the while to keep going, this is for life now there is no going back for me too, you make me feel good and happy just talking to you, it feels like we have friends on this forum (getting weepy now), knowing that we can finally do it and stick to it.
I did not know there was a exercise challenge, do you know the link lily so I can put my name down.
