It was intended as a light hearted joke, but I forgot to take into account the fact that women will read whatever they want to into a simple inocuous comment..

for example, take the following exchange.

F - "Do these jeans make my bum look big?"
M - "No love, those jeans don't make your bum look big."

now a bloke takes this response at face value as it was intended, but the woman can read into it that;-
1. "No, it's not the jeans that make you bum look big"
2. "Not THOSE jeans, but some of your other clothes do.."
and many more that my male brain can't figure out at the moment..
