Thinking of JUDDD/ADF for maintinence?

Persistence not perfection
Hi guys, I'm currently on Slim and Save which is working well and I'm enjoying. I'm thinking of moving over to JUDDD/ADF when I'm looking to maintain, probably starting out using VLCD packs on my DDs and eating a little bit of what I fancy on UDs.

Could I maintain doing this? If I have DD M/W/F and UD T/T/S/S would I be able to maintain my weight? I will eat in moderation on my up days and will focus on healthy home cooked food but I love the idea of being able to have say a bar of chocolate if I fancied it?

I'd never heard of this type of diet until I watched the horizon program (I know I'm not the only one!) and it's really exciting!

Any advice appreciated :)

X

I'm intending to do the same thing. I've been doing the CD and am currently 10 stone 8. I intend to lose another 7 lbs or so and then switch to intermittent fasting like you .

To answer your question - I don't know! I think it sounds perfectly doable for weight maintenance but I'm not sure I'd want to do it for weight loss following a vlcd if that makes sense ?

I also would prepare yourself for a gain on the scales of a few lbs when you first start - due to your glycogen stores being replaced .

I'm going to give it a couple of weeks to start with and see what my weight looks like at the end of that fortnight

Good luck

Thanks for your reply, it's good to see someone else thinking of doing the same! I realise I may gain after coming from a VLCD and plan to go a few lb lower than my goal to account for this.

My goal BMR will be around 1400cal per day, so I'm thinking if I do

3 days x 600cal = 1800

+

4 days x 200cal = 8000

1800 + 8000 = 9800

9800 / 7 = 1400

If that makes any sense whatsoever! I really think I might try it :)

When do you plan to start? Like I said, I am hoping to do so in a few weeks time. If the CD doesn't finish me off between now and then.

I was thinking of one day on/one day off..so Monday would be a UP day and Tuesday a DD and so on and so forth. A quick look at my BMR when I'm another stone down gives me around 1400 calories for an UP day- so not 'loads' but quite sufficient - and 460 calories for a DD. I am really looking forward to actually eating food again... I have been ultra strict for the past 6 weeks and the hard work is paying off but feck me it's boring!

I'll probably get to just under goal with S&S first, probably another few months for me but just looking at my options for maintaining now as I don't want to get there and be completely unprepared! I'll keep a look out to see how you get on if you do decide to do it!

Well done on your loss so far and best of luck in maintaining X

Come over to my diary! There are a few of us there and we have a good laugh in the main...

Yes mini I think the way forward is to give it a go and see what happens. I also think it's a great idea to plan maintenance well in advance. I've been thinking about it for ages - purely because I have never maintained my weight. I lose lots and then over the course of 6 or 8 months it goes back on as I slowly return to old eating habits. Therefore, this time, this won't be happening. Here is my plan - currently being formulated...

1. Intermittent fasting

2. Fresh, unprocessed food. No white carbs at all

3. Three meals a day. No snacking

4. One 'treat day' a fortnight which I will combine with an UP day... so a bar of chocolate, a cake or some cheese etc.

That's as far as I have got with my plan!

Girls girls girls, Juddd as you are describing it is a weightloss plan, of course you can lose weight on 3 DD a week , you obviously havent taken the time to read any of the info or read any of the diaries. If you come over to Juddd with thoise plans you will continue to lose weight not maintain. I suggest you read up on it a bit better as you obviously havent got the gist of this at all, I find it a little irritating that you would post about 'maintaining' on a diet that people are successfully using to lose weight, Juddd is a fab way to maintain but you would only need top do 2 DDs and the rest of your UP days would be normal cal days not calorie counted. I don't mind answering questions if you want to ask but please try to appreciate that people are successfully losing weight on this plan and try to show a little respect for them by actually finding out about it first , Thank you .

I have to completely agree! There is no point JUDDDDing if you are just going to calorie count on your UDs - the whole point is to enjoy your UDs and stick to the DDs carefully! And enjoy it!

Plus without the calorie "swing" it won't work! The man on Horizon lost 20 pounds in 5 weeks by only doing 2 DDs a week and he really wasn't big! It does work and it is great :) x

And I am sure that after following a VLCD of approximately 400 calories a day, the first thing that will happen when returning to food is a weight gain, regardless of what that is due to - glycogen, water replenishment etc.

I'm sure you'll tick me off if I'm wrong though : )

The majority of us who have found our way here have come from vlcd, and I've yet to see someone put weight on. They either lose a couple of lbs or they sts.

Juddd is not about calorie deficits. The up down swing creates a hormone response which is what activities fat burning from your fat cells. Please goggle Dr Johnson's up down diet and familiarise yourselves with it. I understand it's difficult when moving from a vlcd as it takes an entire change of mindset, but none of you would be moving if you were happy with continuing with the vlcd or the refeed plans. The juddd plan is about kickstarting the hormone to get your body working properly again and to fix slow matabolisims, humans are not supposed to live off 1200 cals a day for life!

There is a section on Dr Johnstons website about what to do when you are ready to move into a maintaince plan- and is part of the questions on the calorie allowance calculator.

16 lost : 51 to goal

That makes sense fizzy and all said in a non patronising manner ; ) - and yes, the change in mindset is quite something to try and overcome.

However, surely it stands to reason that no DDs in the world will redress the balance if you scarf down 2 trifles, kettle chips and blocks of cheese on your UP days? There HAS to be some modicum of self control somewhere?

There does, which is why there is a recommended up day calorie allowance given, which reduces itself as your weight changes. I lost about 100 cals from my up days when I lost 21lb

16 lost : 51 to goal

I think most people on here don't count their UD calories at all, it's the DDs that are magic :) You really have to try it and trust it before commenting that it can't work.

I swopped over from CD 2 weeks ago and have lost 7 pounds so far with my 3rd weigh in tomorrow :)

I was worried about about the so called inevitable gain after swooping from CD but it never happened!

Whoops! I didn't mean to offend anyone! I have started to read some diaries on here and you all have done so well. I admit I haven't throughly researched this diet but I do plan on doing so.

What I initially meant was that I will carry on with CD until I get to my mini goal of about 10.7 and then I will come over to JUDD and do the 4UD/3DD until I get to my ULTIMATE goal if 9.7

I do think this diet works I think its a godsend if I'm honest lol, just a couple of years ago I was 23 stone so I have huge issue with food!! Ive lost 11 of those stones and I don't plan on put any of that back on. So that's why I was thinking that JUDDD would be great for maintanence. If maintainence means 5UD and 2DD then so be it lol

P. s I'm not planning on counting my UP day calories - I want to enjoy them! :D

Wow 11 stone is amazing - well done :)

I don't think you've offended anyone Hun - you have just got a bit of backlash due to another thread in here. You are doing amazingly well and would be welcome here anytime - either as a lurker or a fully fledged JUDDDDer :)

I bow to you what an incredible journey you must have been on. well done and good luck finding your way. WOW!!

11 stone?! Amazing! I think JUDDD in a 2 or 1 dd version would be good to maintain. That's what I intend to do eventually. If I were you though, I'd stop calorie counting on up days. Will make you mental when you come off Cambridge, believe me - I've been there and put all the weight back on. Twice.

Snap!! If JUDDDDING is done right I really believe it can help with the psychological side of eating/dieting that some of us have issues with.

This is the last time I'm going to lose this 6 stone :) x

I just find it annoying when someone says think I will give this a go but it sounds too good to be true, you need to read up about the diet before you start formulating honestly laughable plans about treat days once a fortnight!!, you obviously havent grasped the concept at all, I am sorry if I am coming across in a brusque manner but find it a bit tedious to be honest, I came from s+s and lost 2 lbs in my first week and shock horror I had Takeaway and cheesecake , chocolate all on my first UP weekend, I have no limits on my weekend UPs and I have regular losses so it would seem your theory is wrong but then what do I know. If you want to do Juddd as a weightloss programme great, if you want to use it for maintenence great but take the time to find out about it first.
