Tools, tricks and technology

Oh my god, it's an apple thread. I feel a little sick now. :(

Too many carbs Jim??

LOL, no too many apple geeks Linz.

Downloaded Evernote on my laptop but can't sync to my phone cos it is too old to load Evernote on lol
Can you get on the web at all with your phone? the mobile version of the website is pretty good.
If not - is this a good excuse to get a new phone??!!!:D

Sorry Jim ;) I am actually anti apple the company but cant resist the kit

You probably already know, but the Macbooks are due for a refresh - probably around April time, maybe sooner. I wouldn't buy before then as they typically only update them once or at most twice per year.

Im also a bit anti-Apple but the quality of the kit + OS X being (kind of) virus/malware free means I'm probably going to by Apple again, even though they are a bit over-priced. I've had my Macbook about 5 years now and can't really fault it.

Thx Michael, I didn't know that - do you think it's a bad idea to buy a 2nd hand one on eBay?

Oooh ooh, I've just seen an ad for the latest Tesco app - you can scan barcodes and it puts things on your shopping list - yeah baby!!

Haha hadn't seen that Tesco app, sounds kind of handy actually! Would be good if it worked with their website.

I don't have much experience with ebay, sorry. I think that most apple products hold their value well tho so not sure how much of a bargain you might find, unless you go back a year or so. Apple have a refurb store as well tho. The savings aren't massive and you kind of have to check in often to see what's going, but you do get a 1 year warranty with anything just in case you know...

Totally agree Steve. Everything just works!

I sort of can but it is all text based and very hard to use, my phone is probably 3 or 4 years old - a sony ericsson w300i - and yes I would love a new one but don't use it enough for a contract really and you have to pay a lot for the phones up front for pay as you go...........unless anyone else knows better? :D

UNIX rules, it's the OS of the century and always will be.

Ok I thought I was quite up with technology now I see I'm actually a complete numpty!
Quicky question anyone use and can recommend a good fitness app (android please!) which would track my runs/walks accurately and consistently? I have the nike+ but have lost the sensor and need new trainers and to replace that is ££ vs cheaper trainers and a free app!!

Thanks in advance xx

Survey for iPhone users - what are your favourite apps?

Mine are -

- Rise of Atlantis - hugely addictive game, sadly no longer available to download
- Shazam - use it all the time to identify music on TV ads
- Whirly Word - a word game, like Boggle but much more fun

Also just downloaded Vlingo - turns the spoken word into text - no verdict on it yet as I haven't played with it :)

Hmmmmmm

I love my iPhone but I use it mostly for the internet/texting. Aside from that, definitely Reeder. I love catching up with all the news before I go to sleep at bedtime.

Aside from Reeder...ahem...Angry Birds!

Oh and a torch app! Great as it's so dark at the mo. Pretty silly spending £600 on torch! :D

I've got Shazam too - is good, haven't used it for a while tho.

Just getting into angry birds too, and have shazam, and a tiny pretend piano, and, er that's about it.

Re iphone/touch apps
Will dig out a list when i have a chance - assume you dont want the list of 300 i have or even the 150 on my phone currently.....Lol

But also looking for recommendation for a carb counter app. I havent been counting so far on induction just following rules - part of my view this is lifestyle not diet counting (cant really stick with that). However i recognise that if move to owl or stay on induction longer then probably need to watch for carb creep or decide on level to increase.

So far looked at free atkins app - database doesnt seem very extensive. Carb master free - seems to have ok database but a bit fiddly

Any recommendations for easy to use app maybe with uk vs us bias?

Thanks
