It may surprise you, but I am a huge "Royalist". I inherited this from my maternal side as my mother and grandmother were staunch royalists.

I love the mantra of "For Queen and Country" and had I the choice to live things over I would have joined the forces to serve said Queen and Country.

I love singing the national anthem at cup finals and especially England matches.

Mum would be proud lol.

I won't be watching it. Not because I am against the royals, just because I am hoping the weather is nice enough to go out for the day :)

I hope everyone who is celebrating it has a great day! I don't work Fridays anyway, wish they had got married on a Wednesday, I hate Wednesdays :D

I quite like the royal family, I think we have enough trouble with our elected powers that be, without having an elected head of state too, and I think that our Royals do a lot of good, in terms of bringing in tourism and.highlighting the work of charities.

Always the sage, always see things in total perspective MLM.

It as been estimated that on the wedding day alone and calculating day visitors to London, an extra £50.000.000 will be spent in the shops and restaurants of London. The calculation for the long weekend and including hotel beds is an amazing £620.000.000 and that is nothing compared with all the extra goodies and drinks we will be buying for bbq's and parties all over the U.K.

Sue, are you still planning your multi-national euro BBQ?!! Menu plans?

:love047:
Sure am !!! We will only be 8 people but we are English, Welsh, German and Rhodesian ( DH refuses to call it Zimbabwe)

We will start with a huge bowl of fresh unpeeled giant prawns, fresh, crunchy, cooked asparagus and jamon serrano as the starter. All finger food and all easy to do. Followed by racks of ribs, chicken quarters and about 4 kinds of sausages all BBQ ed by DH who is brilliant at BBQing served with sauces of teriyaki, sweet chili, curried mayo, spiced apple, potato salad, rice salad, beetroot, Moroccan style peppers, mixed salad, fresh, hot bread, baby potatoes in a mint butter, etc. etc. Puds will be a choice of goodie or baddie, bananas cooked on the bbq, when cooked skins split open and Tia maria poured in and lots of whipped double cream, seared pineapple , homemade lemon cheesecake and a big, big bowl of strawberries to dip in champagne and then sugar or just with fresh orange juice.

Everyone welcome.......... :)

mmmmm sounds lovely!!!!

Am having a party/bbq. Like the Royals and happy to have an extra day of too

I'm a supply teacher, so it's another forced day off with no holiday pay for me (bloomin' bank holidays - too many all in one go). I feel sorry for small businesses who have suddenly got to find the money to pay for another days holiday for all their employees too.

Not bothered either way by the wedding - I'll probably watch it I suppose. My dad and stepmum have asked to take refuge at ours as their rowdy neighbours have a street party planned and they're a bit worried it'll get out of hand. So, Friday morning will be 'visitor-level' housework too. Can't wait.

Body Magic! - think of the benefits lol:p

No company is forced to pay employees for the day off - its up to them

I've been quite surprised by the level of negativity about the whole thing (not on here but in general).

Personally....any excuse for a party (I dont need an excuse but its sometimes nice to have one!)

Too many "bah humbugs" around

Oh well said. To many people with to little factual information !!!!

Bring it on, let us enjoy the day !!!

Examples please?

ETA I have re-read this thread and I'm sorry I don't see what you could be referring to. You asked if people were celebrating and many of us are not, for a variety of reasons.

Thank you Circles! Thought i was going mad there for a moment. Not a bah humbug by any measure - just not interested in someone i don't know getting married!! Hope they are v happy together

I wasnt calling anyone on here (as I put my comments were "in general"). I totally accept that many arent interested in the Royal Wedding and thats fine by me but so many people are whinging on about it and trying to dampen the spirits of people who are looking forward to it. We have a right miserable woman at work who shouted across to me (when I mentioned I was really only bothered about seeing the dress and a bit of the ceremony) "you'll be able to see the dress on the news" - well I dont WANT to see the dress on the news, I want to see it when she walks down the aisle. Woman mentioned is a right miserable sod about everything and not married so probably just jealous!!!!!

Anyway I've got some of those flower things from Lakeland that you put in the bottom of champagne and they open up so this is a fine excuse to try them out!!!

Ach I don't know if I'll watch or not, I don't particularly care one way or another, just let them get on with it.

I've no option but to get the day off given I'm unemployed ;)

Currently we all have epic cases of gastric flu so the wedding will go without a thought really. Also had no intention of sitting and watching it on the tv all day. If it had been nice was going to take the wee man to the beach

Alos on the friday was a thinking about oacking up and jumping on the train and heading to avebury for beltane :D, as wanted to share that with my son as he will love it, though currently sickness is halting any plans i had this week :(

I am not referring to anyone on here, no one at all. I am far too polite and mild mannered to do that. I really do not care what anyone else's opinion is. I have far to many important and real issues in my life to care.

I was referring to media who-ha etc. Nothing personal and am shocked that what for me is an innocent thread and as you so rightly pointed out is really just a question asking who is celebrating and who isn't, could cause offence.

It is interesting to see every ones different opinions No fight looked for or wanted. I am happy for everyone to do there own thing.

I'm quite a royalist too, but I'm fed up with all the hype, and absolutely sure that I don't need to stay in to watch it, because every moment of it will be available to play back at some stage when there's nothing else on.

I'm going to enjoy my second long weekend in a fortnight, and have a good day's shopping, followed by going out for a curry with a friend.

By the way, Sue, are you sure you've got time to be on Shakespeare Beach tomorrow, if you've got to get back and prepare all that lot for Friday?
Don't feel you really have to be there...

Blimey Sue, your bbq sounds the absolute business! Are you flexi-synning that day ;) ?!

Flexi - synning.....hell no, just synning lol !!!!

Today I bought cava for the toast though it will be very tongue in cheek for our Welsh and German friends, I will be serious about it.
Also found a lovely Shiraz Cabernet red..............yummy !!!
Have decided to do an enormous home made lemon cheese cake using home grown lemons......yummy !!!!

Fillymum, where on earth are you finding the time to arrange all this? Do you have one of those time turner things that Hermione had in Harry Potter?
