Breastfeeding and Slimming World

hi lanugowife and welcome x
how many extra HE's you having at the mo? my LB is 12 wk old now and i've beem having an extra 4 for some reason the chart doesn't have a 3-4 mth so can only presume i stay as i am? Will check in class tomoz.

Need some advice girls........my period came back today and heavy too, not had any period pain but it could explain why i've felt a bit down this past wk or so. Wasn't expecting it so soon. Also what contraception are people taking? I'm contemplating the coil
Weigh in day tomoz......not expecting a loss with having a wk off plan and period

Hi jojo, thanks for the welcome! :)

I'm having 4 extra HEXs a day at the mo & my full 15 syns - my c gave me a leaflet for bfing & sw when I joined in Jan & if you're exclusively feeding it's 4 additional HEXs for 4-6 months, or 3 if starting to wean. After 6 months it goes to just 1 extra! Don't know how I'll cope with that! Lol!

As for periods, I had the injection in January (2 months after birth) & this works great for me both for contraception & no periods.

I was worried having all the additional HEXs & using 15 syns as before i was pregnant i was only on 10 a day, but was more scared of my milk reducing & I heard if you lose too quickly some toxins are released in to your milk so decided I'd follow the plan exactly so as to get all the nutrients needed. So far I've had a loss every week except a sts last week (but had a cake binge so was lucky to sts - oh the power of breastfeeding!) so I guess we really do use up so much more energy feeding!!

How long is everyone hoping to feed for? (sorry if this has been discussed already!)

Xx

hiya
im hoping to bf as long as possible.Im back at work in May when LB will be 5mth old.Might introduce a bottle at night in hope of him sleeping through as me and hubs work shifts, looking forward to see how work cope with my bf demands, they didnt exactly follow the law when i was pregnant!!! And thats working for civil service! Shocking!
Im wondering if ive affected my breast milk this wk by not eating properly?
xx

Lanuguwife im also on injection, its fabulous! My first period after noodle was awful!

pleased to report a 2lb loss this week with ww.. am actually really enjoying the plan .. getting used to it after 3 years on sw. . but its really suiting me well.

.. I had originally planned to bf for just 4 months, but i soon realised that A) penny was having none of it bottle wise, and B) 4 months is nothing and with all our troubles establishing bfing i wasn't ready to give up! .. We've just hit our first mile stone (6 months!) which not only am i oober proud about, but there was a time i wondered if we'd ever get through the next feed.. so six months feels amazing.

Penny still refusing bottle but my mat pay ends next month and although im jobless atm i really need to get a job which is going to be hard if Penny doesn't start taking more fluids from a sippy cup or otherwise. She is taking in alot more solids now, but she still wants a feed before and after and feeds on demand around every two hours still. Its amazing to look at her and think my boobys have grown her outside of utero! lol i'm a proud mamma to say the least.

For me i'd like to continue doing eve/morn feeds for aslong as we both like. but would like Penny to be taking boobymilk/formula from abottle/sippy but 9 months. i love feeding her and am not prepared to just 'stop' but i'd like to have my body back in the near future.. looking forward to wearing a padded bra haha

My little one is almost 10months old. I'm still feeding and would like to carry on until he self weans off. Although DH'S isn't 100% supportive if this as he wants me to stop bfing once my DS is 1year old. (what he doesn't know can't hurt him?.
I'm feeling quite gutted at the moment. I expressed and froze a lot if milk for my return to work. I have two draws in my freezer full of milk. My DS is refusing defrosted milk. So disappointed that all the effort I put in was a bit of a waste. Never mind. I can't bring myself to get rid of it though.

keep an eye on boobie Leeanne, could be the start of mastitis... hot flannels and showers and try some different feeding positions with TJ to break up any blockages x

Thx fern. Feel so poo n instead of just my nipples my boobs sore too :( fern do u think its cuz his tongue tie? Might let lactation specialist know im bit poorly. He should get his tongue snipped today.

it's quite possible.. if his tongue tie affects his feeding it's possible that you've got a blocked duct which if its been building for a while will end in mastitis.. the sooner you can get under a hot shower, take some paracetamol and feed him.. lots.. lying down, rugby ball.. any way you can manage so he reaches more ducts.. try pumping too x

I am starting weaning Charles tomorrow, so nervous as he is showing the 'signs' and we always let hime sniff food/drink but he has a love for the smell of beer when cuddled up with daddy watching Rugby he kept opening his mouth wanting some, naughty little bear he is!!!

Good luck Leanne, hope all goes well.

Good luck to you bunny, it's so exciting! Bella started sleeping for 12 hours through a few days after we started which she'd never done before.

She's now having fruit purée for brekkie sometimes mixed up with porridge. Apples her fave but she's also had pear, banana and papaya. Then for lunch she's been having butternut squash, sweet potato or carrot. Think I'm going to try her on cauli and broccoli this week.

Think she's just had a growth spurt too - couple of days being super hungry and sleeping LOTS in the day.

bunny lol at dirty beer..... excited for you and weaning good luck

Leeanne good advice off Fern, good luck with the tongue tie

geo....omg nightmare over the milk. has your baby ever had any defrosted milk? could have just been an off day for him or not the right temp/ bottle?

Well i only put 1lb on which is fab since ive ate loads of naughty stuff this wk including 4 pancakes last night stuffed with nutella and golden syrup followed by 3 slices of toast....the hungry monster was in force yesterday thats for sure but then my LB fed non stop too!! Oh and my first "Star wk"
Also got slimmer of the month and i cried lol good job im not embarassed

Just back from hospital that was an awful experience. He was overdue a feed so was mega peed at mommy. She watched him feed for 2 seconds and said it was defo tongue tie. She wrapped him up n got me to hold him n snipped his tongue twice :( but then he refused my boob. Also is sign of early mastitis just gotta get him keep feeding off it and ibuprofen for 24 hours. But its done now!! Only upwards from here.

Now to find a fabric shop to make my own baby wrap to baby wear with tj

He has had defrosted milk before but not for a few months. We tried it at different temps but he won't take it. I'm just going to use it in his cereals and hope he doesn't refuse to eat them. At least it won't be a complete waste.
Congrats in your loss

Sorry confused my posts! I think I may have a gain after my night out on Saturday.

Leanne hopefully it'll all be good from now on and I hope you don't develop full blown mastitis

Leeanne, well done for being brave- im in tears every time Penny has jabs, so i'm not sure i could have held her while her tongue is snipped. ((hugs)) has TJ taken the breast since? poor wee babba, troubled day for him. Better now than later though. I hope this improves feeding wise, you've done incredible to make it this far.. your doing so well. Be proud of yourself. Being a mamma is so emotionally draining. All that love you have for them is exhausting and then the practical side of caring for them is just as exhausting! and as the adrenaline from the first few weeks wears off the emotional side of breastfeeding, that intense pressure of desperately wanting to be the one to feed your child, but wanting to just have a little break, break from the soreness, the tiredness, the fight that it can be to get them latched when they are being pickles.. it can be alot xxxx

Fern i'm just so glad it's not just me going through the ups and downs! It is very demanding and emotional and draining but the up side is i feel so so proud being able to give my son the very best start in life and for not giving up especially when it seems we are now a minority in society and therfore there is very little support out there! I do wish my husband would fully understand and support me 100%, i do wonder sometimes if he thinks i sit on my arse all day watching tv and feeding!!!! Though yesterday he could see how drained i was as Dan was constantly on the boob and being a devil, fighting me in frustrastion cos he couldn't get my milk quick enough!!!! no-one tells you about that lol, its funny and scary at the same time when they are having a full on paddy to get to your nipple!!!!

Leeanne, hopefully you will find it a lot easier to feed now, should be a doddle compared to the last few wks for you!Poor TJ , hope he wasn't in too much pain bless him x
Geobar, good idea using it in his cereal but strange why he suddenly won't take it? I'm trying hard to express and even have an electric breast pump but finding time to do it is a pain! Remembering to sterilise everything with everything else i have to do as well as remembering not to use one side for a while or i won't get enough. I never get more than 80 ml in one go and thats if my boob is full! I need to step it up really as by the time i've got enough for a feed in the freezer its being defrosted again to use! lol

The sterilising is a pain.
When your trying to express is your little one near you? You'll do better if they are but if that's not practical they say to have a photo and something with their smell on it. All to do with hormones.
Also I used a few different pumps and found some were much better than others
