I've tried everything - including bribery....
I thought if I could get a really cheap train/plane deal i might manage it, but nothing under £120
Still working on York though..... not looking hopeful there either :cry:I've been told a vodka fest the weekend before GNR is not a good idea

I think I have decided just to come down for the day on Saturday.I really can't justify the price of a hotel room to myself for 2 nights...Have checked trains and they run really late back to East Croydon and it is only £8 return.I will come up early on Saturday so I'm hoping to do some shopping in the lanes before 3 o'clock meet

It seems a shame to waste all this effort now PLUS - I'll have really earned the vodka I drink afterwards eh hehehe

Nooooooo!! You must come to York! Of course vodka is OK in the lead-up to the GNR. Just think of it as calorie-loading before a big race

I am still trying really hard because I would love to come. I don't think that I'll be working on Friday night on the pier so it could possibly be feasible.
Looked at trains again and by catching a train from the next stop along the line from here I could get a train about 6.30pm but wouldn't arrive until midnight. Alternatively a train about 6am on Saturday morning would mean I'd get there about 1.30pm.
The next issue is that the fare is £83 and I don't know if I can justify that (plus I'd then have to think about a room, especially if Susan is just going for the day now) so close to the York meet (I haven't bought my train ticket for that yet either).

Sarah - we're travelling down by car on the Saturday morning ... so could give you a lift there maybe - but then we're going to stay at mysisters in London Saturday night until Monday, so couldn't get you back. If a single fare home on the Sunday isn't too expensive maybe it could be an option. Also York we are driving to as well .... so can offer you a lift there and back to that if you can get to Crewe or Northwich?

Blumming eck, it would cost £18 to get to yours and then £83 for a single to get home!!! It's even more expensive - how ridiculous is that!!!

You could always come home with me and get a train home from London the next day....and if all else fails I can book us a room for Saturday night
