C25K beginners - struggle with W1D1

I think I am going to try and increase my pace until my race (3rd July), then I am starting B210k. I am also going to play with the programs on the treadmill.
I like the idea of doing C25k again with jogging and running!

I still haven't got round to buying new trainers. How long will it take me to bed them in? Not sure if I have left it too late to get them before my race. Any ideas?

Well once again been to the gym straight from work, and ran for 28mins and boxed off w5d3! Even tho I've already done 30 & 45 min runs-but I like the idea of ticking all the boxes as it were! Excelled my personal best tonight by running between 8 and 9k/hr instead of 6.5 and 7.5!! Found it tough but I did it! And I will keep doing it :D

My new ones are SO comfortable - that I just wore them around the house whilst doing a few jobs. Then started running in them. Not had a blister or anything at all. xx

Thanks :) I've started myself on a new challenge! I am now counting up the kilometres/miles as I want to see how quickly I can hit 160k/100 miles :) I think I've gone mad-it's amazing what an ex-marine can do to you!!! Everyone should have one ;) xx

Join us on the "I shall run 100 miles" thread - to which I cannot link;) We're counting down from 100miles - one madwoman is already counting back up(!) but new people can join anytime and start counting from 100. I love it - it's a great way of seeing how far you've come.

Hannah - if you are jogging at 8.8, your "steady" run would be about 1kph higher and your "flat out" at 1kph higher than that. I like to keep mine simple at 9, 10 and 11!

My next run is my first Week 8 and I'm not sure what I'm gonna do after C25K. My R4L is not until July so I may try to get my 5K time down to as close to 30 minutes as I can - but as I haven't actually managed to run (a timed) 5K yet, let's see what Week 9 brings! I think, especially as I'm finding it so hard to get my distance up my ultimate goal is a sub 1 hour 10K - I can't believe I just said that - it sounds insanely ambitious but I would love to be able to run for an hour at a good clip! That's a long way off as of now though. Maybe the C25K graduates should start a new Bridge to 10K thread?

Shazz - re new shoes - so long as you have time to run a couple of training runs before your 5K of the same distance (eg. before you taper off as well) and they don't give you any trouble, you should be fine for the race. :)

I saw that one but I'm doing mine in km-only cos most of it is on the treadmill at the mo, so have started my own-thanks tho :)

Got up this morning and went and ran 6.48k today!! Have been sortin out some 'running' tunes and discovered that the FIVE MegaMix is fun to run to and I realised it's just under 11mins long!!

Since last friday ive done 6 sessions on the treadmill and have totalled 31.45k, so got 128.55k to go!! I also kept going with the C25k app and am now up to wk6d2!

Great advice re the running speeds - did a great interval training run on the treadmill yesterday - had to hang on for a bit as some of it was a bit too fast! xx

Gosh everyone is doing so well!!

Thanks for the advice on the trainers. I have now gone and bought some. Feel really supportive, so will be much better than my normal trainers.

I did wk 8 day 3 this morning. I made the mistake of eating a sandwich too close to my run, so was bit of a struggle to get through it. Was determined to finish it though!

Well done you :) I've spent the last week running in the gym on the treadmill, so need to get back outside as doing the race for life 2 weeks tomorrow!

I am the same Welshtigger. Really need to get running outside again. Two weeks, not long! Mine is 3 weeks :)

Cool! I can run the distance easily on a treadmill-and in fact a bit more, but nervous about doing it outside-as ive never done that far outside before!!
Have really enjoyed this week, and running most days-I think cos ive carried on going, my legs have been fine! However I'm on nights now til Tuesday-and normally will happily go to the gym before I go home, but on a Sunday, they don't open til 8-so it would have meant waiting around when I finished work at 7!! So that means i can't get a run in today-but will go at 7am tomorrow! Also thinking it's maybe not a good idea to go before weigh in-just on case all the water I drink goes against me!!

You are doing great Welshtigger. I'm sure you'll be fine outside. I do understand your concerns though. I have a treadmill at home, so it's just too easy to jump on rather than making the effort of going outside.
