C25K beginners - struggle with W1D1

Cool! I can run the distance easily on a treadmill-and in fact a bit more, but nervous about doing it outside-as ive never done that far outside before!!
Have really enjoyed this week, and running most days-I think cos ive carried on going, my legs have been fine! However I'm on nights now til Tuesday-and normally will happily go to the gym before I go home, but on a Sunday, they don't open til 8-so it would have meant waiting around when I finished work at 7!! So that means i can't get a run in today-but will go at 7am tomorrow! Also thinking it's maybe not a good idea to go before weigh in-just on case all the water I drink goes against me!!

Well I woke up at 12.45(ish) and decided to get up and go to the gym! I only ran for 20 mins but am glad I went! Have just got home, had a shower and am now going back to bed for another couple of hours kip before work!! Feel better for having done it! Not sure whether I'll still feel so great at 3am!! Oh well
Need to also look at getting some new gym stuff-my trainers are fine but now I'm actually running my t-shirts are annoying me! Lol! Desperately trying to fun gym kit in bigger sizes! Evans have withdrawn their Active8 range so gonna have a look at marisota as I seem to recall they do some nice stuff! Any suggestions? xx

Well done Welshtigger!
I was a little hungover today, so my run turned into shorts burst of running with walking for 50 mins. I did do 10 miles on the bike as well, so still had a good burn, but a bit disappointed that I didn't do a 30 min run.

Wow that's still pretty impressive going-with a hangover! Bizarrely i can cycle on a bike but can't use an exercise bike-my hips click! Hence sticking to the treadmill-altho when I'm burning off anywhere between 350 and 800 Cals a go I don't mind lol x

Yes the treadmill is fab for burning cals. I use the bike for variety more than anything else.
A hangover is not something I recommend when u want to exercise. Your not quite as effective!! Lol

Have a look at M and M Direct, and from their homepage under "sports" select "basketball". I know it sounds odd - but they have some top quality adidas baseball kit - shorts, singlets and short-sleeved tops which will do just as well for running. Made of technical, wicking fabric, and best of all - on sale at v. low prices at the moment. Be careful when you order though - as the sizes run VERY big. I ordered one larger than my normal size, as I always do and drowned in it!

I ran W8R1 on treadie today. Annoyingly, as my distance is going up my speed is going dooooown - hoping to improve that by the end of W9. Finding 28 minutes quite a big ask at the mo but just made it today. Average speed of 9.2 which will make me well over 30 mins for R4L. Bugger!

Am now 7 hours down on my night shift and am really struggling so have made the sensible decision to not go to the gym in the morning! I've went everyday bar Tuesday last week so I think I deserve a rest! Also I'm looking after my friends daughter for an hour in the afternoon so will need to be up for that!

Am Glad I decided to be sensible and not go to the gym! It's wi tomorrow morning and I worry enough about weighing in after a night shift without worrying about anything else lol! Cos I'll sleep now and that'll be it til after class tomorrow-so even tho I weigh in at 9am, it'll be like an evening class i guess! Oh well! :).

Hey guys I'm interested in doing the C25K but just need some advice on what you use to time yourself. Do you use a stopwatch and do you have to reset the timer every time you are changing pace? Thanks.

I can't speak for everyone, but I know that most people use the c25k app for iPhone/iPod :)
It's brilliant cos it does it all for you, and gives you audio prompts for all your intervals, and let's you know wen you're half way and also when youre coming up to your last run :)

I use an app on my iPod touch. I tried using a timer years ago and it didn't work for me as I had to keep stopping to reset it.

Join us on the "I shall run 100 miles" thread - to which I cannot link;) We're counting down from 100miles - one madwoman is already counting back up(!) but new people can join anytime and start counting from 100. I love it - it's a great way of seeing how far you've come.

Hannah - if you are jogging at 8.8, your "steady" run would be about 1kph higher and your "flat out" at 1kph higher than that. I like to keep mine simple at 9, 10 and 11!

My next run is my first Week 8 and I'm not sure what I'm gonna do after C25K. My R4L is not until July so I may try to get my 5K time down to as close to 30 minutes as I can - but as I haven't actually managed to run (a timed) 5K yet, let's see what Week 9 brings! I think, especially as I'm finding it so hard to get my distance up my ultimate goal is a sub 1 hour 10K - I can't believe I just said that - it sounds insanely ambitious but I would love to be able to run for an hour at a good clip! That's a long way off as of now though. Maybe the C25K graduates should start a new Bridge to 10K thread?

Shazz - re new shoes - so long as you have time to run a couple of training runs before your 5K of the same distance (eg. before you taper off as well) and they don't give you any trouble, you should be fine for the race. :)

I did my R4L in 33 mins in the rain. it was great.
