Zone 4 Mission #5 Friday

Dear Friends,

Yesterday we had a panty raid and today we are going to raid our
bedroom of any clothes that we need to get rid of. Today we are going
to play beat the clock. I want you to get a large trash bag - Set the
timer for 15 minutes, throw open a dresser drawer or closet and start
tossing anything that you do not love, does not fit or just needs to
go away. You know what these things are, you just haven't given
yourself the time to do it. You are going to shove these things into
the bag as fast as you possibly can and when the bag is full take it
to the trunk of your car to drop off at a donation center. This is
not a game of will I wear this, do I like it. This is toss, toss,
toss as fast as you can. When you set a timer and try to fill the bag
before the timer goes off it is amazing what you will let go of. Also
if you are holding on to your husband's old clothes that he no longer
wears and you think you will - forget about it! Toss them! it is one
thing to grab one of your husbands t-shirts to wear - it is quite
another to hang onto all of his old sweat shirts and t-shirts that he
no longer wants! Toss them! Ready, Set ...GO!

(I've gone through my shelves in the wardrobe, my DH's chest of drawers and will do mine today).

I was just thinking of doing this very thing!

I did it last week and boy did it feel good! Unfortunately the bin liners are sat in the spare room waiting to be taken to the charity shop, but I'm half way there at least!

Moving house a week today, so this is my chance to start a fresh and clutter free life :D

Congrats -- it is so freeing.

Hi Declutterers -- I am going to try and post the Week's flight plan here on Sundays, then report back through out the week my progress. I am trying to make myself accountable. (As I must with weightloss and fitness).

I'm going to finish up the "flinging" in my bedroom today -- then "jump in" with Livingroom/art & music area.

ZONE SUPER FLING BOOGIE CONTINUES!!!!!

We are going to have a weekly Super Fling Boogie for the Zone we are
in.

This week we are in the Living Room - it is time to fling,
fling, fling!!

Today is Sunday - Renew Your Spirit Day

Next Week we are in Zone 5 The Living Room

Zone 5 is the living room, family room, or den. But, only focus on one this week. After a few months, you will have them decluttered them all and the detailed cleaning will be a breeze.

Flybabies: Your task is to declutter this area. Spend 15 minutes a day this week doing something, anything, in this room. It did not get dirty in a week and it will not get clean in a week, but you will be making head-way. It is a trend! Get in the habit of decluttering in small segments of time. Decide what time of day you are going to tackle this little job, set a timer for 15 minutes, and just do it.

Since we have a full week, let's tackle some hotspots. Do you have DVDs stacked everywhere? Donate the ones you really didn't like and find a home for the rest. Do you have clutter around your tv or entertainment center? Toss the trash and put away the rest. Do you have a basket of magazines and newspapers next to the sofa? Donate or toss what you have already read or don't have time to read. Do you have a wide empty space where clutter used to live? Enjoy the space or decorate with an item that brings a smile to your face, perhaps a picture, a flower, or season decor. Now give yourself a pat on the back for a week of decluttering well done!

If Zone 5 is already decluttered: (that means no more clutter -- only the things you use and love!) Go on to the detailed cleaning list. You will be amazed at how easy it is to enjoy this room with family and friends when the clutter is gone!

Living Room/Family Room/Den Detailed Cleaning List

Clean cobwebs
Clean windows
Straighten bookcases
Wash ornaments and knick-knacks
Clean out end table
Straighten closets/ drawers
Wipe fingerprints from walls
Polish furniture
Clean out magazine racks
Clean phone
Clean under cushions
Clean out fireplace
Move furniture and vacuum
Shampoo carpet

If you have a family room, game room, sun porch, or other room that is used by the family for living purposes, then concentrate on decluttering one room each month (or as you find more time). Do not push yourself. They did not get cluttered in one month and they will not get clean in one week. Remember: baby steps. If you are unable to do any task, just delete it and go to the next one. Do not save them up. We will repeat the same thing each week and each month. I am just your reminder. - FlyLady

You just jump in and do what you can.

I went through the trousers. Had them in piles on the MBR floor from my attempt to sort and toss. Depressing but no surprise, I only have a few pairs of long trousers I can squeeze into at the moment. I took out everything that was two sizes too small and some one size down and put them in a storage box. Then I sorted by size and style.
I hope to be able to get into the next size down in the very near future - but I'm nearly at the max on my current size (UK 14).

The state my house is in directly affects my mood!!! I love nothing more than gutting it out and then sitting down with a cuppa to admire my hard work lol!!!! When i am in a bad mood about the state of the house I do tend to eat more but never realise this unitl I read this!! Thanks for the share really made me think.

Hi Declutterers -- I am going to try and post the Week's flight plan here on Sundays, then report back through out the week my progress. I am trying to make myself accountable. (As I must with weightloss and fitness).

I've done most of my Monday work (downstairs loo, utility area and kitchen table and floors, so far). I've also worked on the laundry.

Last edited:
Doing fifteen minutes (with timer in this week's focus) living room.
Spent most of day on kitchen working on a deep clean as I was away for several weeks and surfaces were cleaned but nothing was done well. Still more to do in there - but I'm at a good stopping point, dinner is started and I want to try to fly.
Once kitchen is done - I will direct focus on MBR and continue with this week's focus.

Had a whole day today so managed to make the house look presentable. Also did 15 minutes in the food cupboard so back on the decluttering wagon. Feeling inspired by flylady's b&b analogy. Wold love to feel serene in my own home because it is not full of too much stuff.

After weeks of stress and illness of one sort or another, my house has been very neglected so today I have made a start.
Kitchen mostly decluttered and partially cleaned.
Kept telling myself it doesnt have to be perfect, I dont have to do it all in one day, the point is I'v emade a start and whatever I do it's going to look better than before.

AND IT DOES !!!!

Zone 1 Mission #1

Dear Friends:

We are going to have a multi room mission today, it might take you
longer than 15 minutes to do it, so set your timer for each room and
FLY through it!

For the Front Porch, Entrance and Dining Room, put out the fires that
are burning in your hot spots. Get rid of the pile of shoes by the
front door, get rid of the pile of junk mail and put away the
magazines and school papers that are piled on the dining room table.

They are smoldering so get to it!
*************

Started with "easier" of two food cupboards left to sort (out of three).

I know I have too much "stuff" on my counters.

The big empty space on the top shelf is for the crockpot that is being used for the 15 bean soup.

Put a thing of Crystal lite peach tea in a bag for CFF (cheese fiend friend)I don't care for it -- I only like the lemon and I'm trying to avoid artificial sweetness a la Skinny Rules. Tossed some old American Cambridge Diet and other bits. Sorted and organized what was left. If what is in tyre isn't gone by next month (I.e. WW crackers, cookies) -- I'll give them to the ducks or birds.

Totally scrubbed the cooker, too. I used Greased Lightning (an American product) CFF swears by -- it was working o good, I put on rubber gloves. Kind of scary... What's in that stuff?

Going well there Mel.

I cannot tell you how good it was to come home from work and shopping to a clear kitchen, and have room to sort the shopping and put it away !!!

Big cupboard done!!!
