Ding Dong the Enemy's dead!

I just meant your normal days off..........what shift is it you work, I know nightshift, but do you have so many shifts on, then so many shifts off?

Oh sorry ... I work wed, thur, fri night for 3 weeks then fri, sat, sun the 4th week so for 2 weeks I have 4 nights off, 1 week I have 6 nights off (this week as it happens) and the following week only 2 nights off. Sounds complicated but it's not really. ;) xx

I want your shift Jan!!!!!! :giggle:

I must admit they're better than yours hon! ;) Sorrreeeeee  xx

Haha most are better than mine!!!!!! :( xx

Shame you can't do 3 longer nights instead of 5 short ones inni! xx

That would be blooming brilliant! A few months back a shift came out for 11pm-4am I wanted to change to that but because I hadn't been on my current one for 12months they wouldn't let me!!! Hey ho, it's still brill money & I can't see myself coming off nights any time soon :p

That's the trouble - getting used to the money ;) xx

Jeeny girls what do you guys do that you have to work nights? I thought I had it tough with the crazy retail hours!!

I keep my eye on a young man (17 now but have been with him off & on since he was 3) who has a condition whereby the part of the brain that tells you to breathe when you go to sleep doesn't work. So if the ventilator and other machinery works okay - which it normally does - there's nothing to do except the obs but if any of them fail it's obviously a different matter so they have to be watched. It may not be for much longer though as, understandably he's not too keen on having people watching him every night - sorting out an alternative is proving a bit of a problem though.

Sorry for hi-jacking your thread Mary ;):D though as you work nights too come back with your twopence worth!!! :) xx

Wow thats sounds like a very rewarding job. You must be quite attached having spent so long with him although I can understand his not wanting to be watched at night lol

Ah Jan for some reason I thought you looked after an old guy!
Is the fella you look after ok during the day etc then, its just when he sleeps?

Retail ... i work for Royal Mail as a Data Entry clerk. Mail needs processing 24hours a day & muggins here is the keying monkey that does that! :giggle:

Yeah - like one of the family! Don't know how I'll feel when it comes to an end! x

Yeah - he's fine when awake, has a couple of orthopaedic issues with his hips but is perfectly normal mentally etc. x

Aww thats sad Jan :(

Summer fair play to you, I could not do that job!!! In retail theres a lot of paperwork involved which I dislike but at least its only part of the job lol

Oh Jan, that's so sad, poor lad. I can't believe how much I've been moaning lately....makes me feel pathetic. I've got bugger all to complain about really.....

Don't be daft - it's all relative. Don't invalidate your feelings, they're real and you're perfectly entitled to them! Sometimes other things help us put them into perspective a bit more, that's all :) xx

How long have you been working with this lad for Jan? I used to work nightshift in a home for the physically and mentally disabled, I found it very rewarding.

My job now is in Highways. I work 4 x 12 hour shifts. 2 dayshifts, 2 nightshifts, then 4 days off (my favourite bit). It can be a tad boring sometimes though, but overall, its a good job.

PS Jan, no worries about hi-jacking the thread, lol.

I've worked with him off and on since he came out of hospital permanently when he was 3. At the time I sat with lots of other people as well but I've been exclusively with him for about 4 or 5 years now - probably longer, you know how time flies! xx

Well I cant say I have been extremely good over the last couple of days, but I have not been too bad either. I haven't been p'ping, as I had some stuff left over from Xmas that HAD to be used!

Well tomorrow should see the remainder of the bits and bobs gone, so I intend to start WW again from Sunday.

Working my last shift tonight, then 4 glorious days off to pamper the pooch and catch up with some housework, apart from that, there is nothing else planned.
