Question about paella. Do you really have to use paella rice? I've got all the other ingredients and really fancy it tonight but only have basmati or brown rice, would they work ok?

Jenny, I think it'll have a slightly different texture to traditional paella if you use basmati, but it's not going to ruin it or anything, I don't think! As Charl's the paella expert, maybe she'll be able to tell you when she's on, but I really don't think it's going to make too much of a difference :)

Soo looking forward to going for a swim later - haven't stopped feeling bloated and horrible even though I'm eating well now!! Hopefully a bit of exercise and then a sauna and spa as a reward after will help me feel better.

Made my first ever slow cooker meal yesterday :D It was a chicken casserole that turned into more of a soup as I didn't want to syn flour to thicken it, but it tasted pretty good!! I'm going to get some carbonated water today, to try the lemonade as I realised I didn't have any yest :p Also going to make some chunky chips to have with some Quorn sausages later (my newest triumph, taste delish for one syn!!) :D

Cheers Laura, I suppose it'll be more like tasty rice! I've got chicken, prawns, onions, peppers, peas, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, plus spices etc so do you reckon that's enough for it to be ee? Otherwise I'll have to syn the rice or meat which would be a lot!

I love swimming, the only place I feel as light as a feather! It's once I get out I realise the workout I've had. Did some move fitness on the playstation mon and I seriously ache, feels like I've bruised my ribs!

Spa sounds lush!!! Proper jealous ;-)

Yeah, defo sounds like enough for EE to me :) I'm jealous, sounds lovely! Yeah, I do like the feeling of being light in the water :p I've always loved swimming, or just being in water - I even re-learnt to walk in water after I broke my leg haha - swimming's good for everything!!

Yes, really looking forward to the spa, but the sauna especially - it's literally my favourite thing about going swimming haha, I'm going to use it as an exercise incentive!! x
 
If you use normal rice it'll be slightly different what you can do is after you add te rice just cover it in stock or water (about 1cm over) put the lid on and then turn it as low as it'll go and steam the rice for about 10-15 mins if you use basmati, brown rice probs wouldn't work as well as it doesn't swell like most rices and takes a lot longer so maybe not as good for this dish, don't take the lid off. In the steaming time though.

Mmmmmm all your food sounds yum! I normally make a salad with it just so I put less rice on my plate :)

I did the shred yesterday, now off for a swim, I WILL be fit for holidays! Haha! Xxx

I was going to say add a little salad in a side dish and you'll defo be EE.... wish I was having paella tonight now... spag bol for me as my parents and brother in law are coming for dinner...


Well 2 1/2 llb off for me which means I hit target finally.. whoooo whooooo guess the lemons may have helped but boy is my stomach rebelling over them today..

yay reached this weeks target of 4lbs. currently sat on the bus makingy way tp London. bloodstock starts tomorrow fully intend not to gain this week. currently can't drink so no worry with syns there. also taking a lot pf our own food. my friend does ww so taking lots of fruit. not sure if my tummy cpukd handle festival food as its bread bread and more bread lol

So my mum's cancelled going swimming again, gutted!! Defo going at some point this week haha :\ Needed some comfort food, so made some smash pizzas!! Soooo much better than the first one I made - tasted more like pizza and less like smash this time :p impressed with my work!! x
 
That's pants, can you not go swimming on your own? I prefer to swim on my own, just drift along in my own little world! Not really sure about smash pizza's, can't say I've had smash for about 10 years! Think I'd rather have a naughty day and blow all my syns on a pizza express, oooooh now I fancy a pizza :-( I miss them!!

Wi tomorrow, totm and quite bloated. Not looking forward to it. On the upside I'm wearing a size 14 skirt and top today, wooooooohooooooooo ;-)

I can, but the swimming pool is miles away and I don't drive, and there's no bus that goes there :p Ahhh, nevermind! The smash pizzas sound disgusting, but as long as you mix some flavours, like the basil, garlic and salt I added to mine, and spread it reeeally thin, it's fine! You can't even taste the smash - I literally hate the stuff on it's own. Worth a try, even if it goes straight in the bin! Smash isn't free I don't think, but the tesco value one I use is, and it works perfectly :)

Ooh, well done for getting into those size 14s, don't worry too much about your WI, I'm sure it'll be another good one :) x

Oh I see the problem! I may try the smash pizza, am sure the kids will eat it if I don't! Got my tea on, definitely not a paella but have packed loads in it (chicken, rice, onions, peppers, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, peas, sweetcorn and carrots) lots of paprika, will pop the prawns in at the end! Hopefully it'll taste ok ;-)

I don't think my hubby as ever known me in size 14's jeans/skirts so over 10 years. Am quite excited and this in itself is an achievement so even a sts tomorrow would be ok. I know I had a few days off at the weekend!

Hey all!
Sorry I've neglected you lately!
Not been feeling great been getting really swollen stomach after eating then cramps then nausea & sweats then toilet so went the docs today and I could have something called Helicobacter which is a stomach infection that could also be IBS or an ulcer so had bloods done today and I'll know next week. So doc has given me tablets to help with acid for the next week.
My stomach is so swollen I was gutted I gained 1/2 a pound at class but I know it's coz of my stomach.
Gutted too coz my friend lost 3lbs.
Ahh well hopefully these tablet help and I can get a good loss next week!

Hi everyone, I have only joined this site tonight but started sw from home last week. I'm on EE and even though I've bought a few books I have some questions that I just need some help with. Sorry of this is the wrong place to post them, but I am still getting to grips with the site!
I have been taking to work the following lunch which I think is f/sf : chicken, mixed veg, and a mug shot (never the cheese one) is this ok?
Can I have pasta/rice/potatoes and meat veg for lunch and tea? is that too "carby" and in any way detrimental?
I see that some of you guys have posted lush sounding recipes and they dont all mention the third of superfree....if I eat a meal that is free but includes no superfree is that detrimental?
Should I try and refrain from eating late at night?
I have had days where I missed h.e a/b is this bad for the weight loss or just a sensible way to get fibre/calcium?
Thanks for any help you can give!
 
hi Sher-bear :) Welcome to minimins and SW :) The lunch sounds good to me!
As long as all of those foods are the free ones, e.g. dried pasta, potatoes and veg cooked without fat/oil and meat without fat, that's fine to eat as much as you want - though if you find you're losing slowly it may be best to look at your portion sizes - especially for carbs.
On EE it is recommended to eat 1/3 superfree, though it's not an absolute rule. I often have my superfree as fruit after the meal - though most people on here find that they lose better eating veg/side salads with their meals.
As far as I'm aware, eating late at night isn't bad, and doesn't affect weight loss for me, though some people find it can bloat them etc.
You don't have to eat all of your healthy extras, but as SW is a healthy, balanced diet it's their way of showing you how to fit in your fibre and calcium intake :) x
