I have used the counselling service we have at work before and they were really good, I think OH is still just in shock at the moment. He will see some of his friends tomorrow and I think thats when it will hit him as 2 of them are brothers of the lad that has taken his life. Theyre old school friends

It must be hard Jezzi you deserve a medal. Chin up just think of all the good you have done for all those people over the holidays, and the good thing is you will do it all over again next year ,as hard as the last day is for you. It would have been so much harder/bleaker for them without people like you

Feeling really rubbish today.

The shelter I was volunteering in over Xmas shut yesterday, and although a lot of our guests got into hostels or detox programs, some weren't so lucky (theres only so much funding nowadays) and have returned to the streets.

You spend all week making bonds with people, and then on the last morning have to wake people up and remind them that we are closing, pack up their beds and blankets, watch them eat their last breakfasts before they go back outside...

So it's massively depressing in its own right, but then for those of us that worked nightshifts we also have to switch back to days now before we go back to work which is hard too.

I've been volunteering with the same charity for 7 years, but I always forget how hard this bit is.

You've done a grand job and made a difference to the lives of those who have managed to get off the streets.
Do the charity not follow up on those that have returned to the streets??
Asking as where I live we have street crews who check on those that return to streets when Xmas shelters close.

There is some follow up and London has street teams out every night, but some of the guests are so damaged there isn't much can be done for them, or their boroughs have no funding available to help them. But yes, someone will have an eye out for them

And also as I've found out there are the ones who actually want to rough sleep despite offers of help. I know it's hard but you must remember that you have made a difference to these people's lives and tho not all got the help they needed those that did got it cos of people like you who give up there time and christmas to help those less fortunate xxxx

:-( eeek been there before! Poor doggy that has upset tummy. Have you given him/her anything to help? X

Luckily it's only been the one episode but he's on limited food today....he didn't want any breakfast, had a few mouthfuls earlier, that's it so far. He hasn't poo'd on his walks for the last few days so think his tummy's been funny for a while thinking about it.....and he pooped in his bed also during the night the other night which isn't like him at all we'll keep an eye on him. He seems fine in himself which is good
