GRRR! I HATE BUFFETS! Today's syn count totally out of the window on a lunch I didn't really enjoy and a workshop that kept putting chocolate bars and cakes on the table!! GRRRR!

Dinner: Baked potato, chick pea dahl

Total syns for day: 31.5 GRRR!
Total syns so far this week: 64.5

So, going to WI tomorrow, as off on hols on Saturday...then I'm going to aim to maintain while I'm away!

yes I hate buffet too, the food doesn't taste that nice but it's soooooo syn-ful! so many choc / cake / crisps to tempt you as well. sometimes I try to bring more fruit with me to snack during the meeting to reduce the temptation to eat the biscuits / cakes!

ah well... today is another day. just have to put that behind you!

where are you off to? have a good time!!

have a fantastic holiday spanx... you've certainly earned it. hope you feel better too xxx

Morning all!

Back home after a lovely holiday in sunny Cyprus and very happy to report in with only a 1lb gain! Woohoo! Normally I would have put on at least 5lbs for a 10 day holiday, so although I didn't manage to maintain (which was my holiday goal) - I wasn't far off!

Here are some things I noticed on holiday and which I'm going to make a note of to keep me focussed:

1. I felt so much better in my swimming costume! Even if I do still look like a heifer, I didn't feel like everyone was staring thinking 'cripes, must call Greenpeace, there's a beached whale over there!'

2. I had soooo much more energy. We snorkelled, swam and walked a lot and our favourite snorkelling place involves 100 steps down (and then back up again!) a cliff face. I even managed to come back up in one go and without being too knackered!!!!

3. I thought 'Blimey, that's heavy' when hefting my bag onto the conveyor belt at the airport, then I checked the weight and saw it was 15kg - and realised that's almost exactly what I've lost so far!

4. I had so much more confidence in myself. As we go to Cyprus a lot, we've got friends out there and I was actually looking forward to them seeing me and noticing that I've lost weight (and they did!)

5. It is possible to have a great holiday without drinking loads of beer!!!!

6. I didn't have to deprive myself - I was just reasonably careful - cut down on beer and bread, ate sensibly (it helps that I love the salads out there!) but still had crisps, ice cream and even chocolate when I felt like it!

7. I looked dreadful for a different reason - all my holiday clothes were too big!!! Even the trousers I'd bought a couple of months ago in the next size down (20) especially for my hols were far too big!:D

So, we will probably next be in Cyprus in April or May... my goal is to be at least 2 stone lighter by then and buying a new set of holiday clothes in a size 16. I know that's not a really stretching target, but I'm a tortoise, not a hare! :D

Back on track from today - need to plan a good week to get back in the swing of it. I'm definitely going to try to have more red/EE days, as I ate far less pasta, rice and potatoes on holiday and more lean meat and salads, so maybe that's why I only put on 1lb...

Yay - glad to have you back, Spanx! Glad you enjoyed your holiday and found it such an inspiring experience to boot :)

I had that suitcase moment too - I had to drag my 17kg bag up 3 flights of stairs and was mrs sweaty betty at the end and then realised that i had that much weight to lose!!! Impossible to think that we go around with such a literal weight to carry around along with all the emotional tribulations it brings. Cannot wait until I have shed a full 20kg holiday suitcase!! :D

Thanks Loumoo - wish I could say it's great to be back, but if it's a choice between rainy England and sunny Cyprus, there's only one winner!!!

I will be carrying the image of that bag around in my head from now on - amazing how it helps to have something concrete to help calibrate your losses! Bring on the next bag I say!!!

So, back on track yesterday - went and did a healthy shop and I'm feeling great and raring to go again! I did fall straight back into the 'green day' habit again though - but am trying to control my carbs portions a bit better!

Wednesday: Green day

Brekkie: Alpen light (half HEB), ff yoghurt
Snack: Plum
Lunch: Baked potato, beans, cheese (HEA)
Dinner: Mushy Pea Curry (amazingly good, considering the ingredients!!) with chicken (HEB) and mushroom, rice, mixed veg

Total syns for day: 5.5

Welcome back! Glad to hear that you had a good time there, felt confident about yourself and only had a small gain!!

You need a new holiday wardrobe, mate :) go to primark, I love the bikini there, nice and cheap!!

Sadly Dream, I can still only dream of either Primark or bikinis!! But, one day I will get there - and hopefully in time for my next holiday! Then there will be no stopping me on that High Street - I will be like a woman possessed!

Hope all is going well for you x

Grrrr - went shopping today for some new clothes and couldn't find a thing.

Of course, if I'd been window-shopping there would have been loads of things I liked, but because I'd actually decided to buy something, all the nice clothes hid!!!

So, I ended up buying a new bra (yes, I am still a lingerieaholic!), an automatic can opener, some muslin squares and food string... a bit of a strange combination, I admit!!!

I have been so hungry today, I could have eaten a baby elephant, so I was very impressed at the restraint I showed when walking past Gregg's! Those pasties were calling my name, but I steadfastly ignored them and kept on walking!

Cooked a huge mushy pea curry on Wednesday night and then found there was only room for 1 portion in the freezer, so that's all I've eaten since!!!

Thursday: Green day:

Brekkie: Alpen light (half HEB), plum
Lunch: Baked potato, beans, cheese (2xHEA)
Treat: 1 Thorntons dark chocolate ginger (3 syns?)
Dinner: Mushy pea curry (with Chicken = HEB), rice

Brekkie: Alpen light (half HEB)
Lunch: Baked potato, beans, cheese (2xHEA)

So, WI in the morning - hope that pound that I put on last week on my hols has melted away!

Huzzah! Not only has the pound I put on melted away, but another 1.5 decided to follow it too! Woohoo! Only 1lb from my 2.5 stone shiny now - it will be mine next week!!!! :D

Grrr! Bad, bad Spanx! Went to a party last night and completely blew my syns for the whole week! Had far too much red wine (or so my head is telling me this morning!), plus all the food was from the local Indian takeaway, so ate onion bhajis, butter chicken and nan!!!

Still, I had a lovely evening, so at least it was worth it!

Going to say I had about 100 syns and leave it at that!!!

Cooking a beef stifado today in my slow cooker, I think it will make enough for about 6 portions, so I am going to have some red/EE days this week to use it up!

Well, the stifado didn't go to plan - put far too many herbs in the muslin and it tasted revolting - a bit like 'hot cross beef' there was so much cinammon in there! So, unfortunately, it ended up in the bin, as even the cats wouldn't consider it!!!

Fairly good on Sunday: Green:

Brekkie: Alpen light (half HEB)
Lunch: Baked potato, cheese (HEA), beans
Dinner: Pasta, chicken (HEB), mushrooms, garlic and herb philly (2 syns)

Total syns for day: 2

Not so good on Monday: Green

Brekkie: None
Lunch: Baked potato, beans, brown sauce (1 syn), apple
Snack: Alpen light (half HEB)
Dinner: Chicken (HEB), chip-shop chips (10 syns - son begged for them and my willpower was non-existent!), barbeque sauce (2 syns)

Total syns for day: 13

Pretty angelic tuesday: Green

Brekkie: Alpen light (half HEB), apple
Lunch: Baked potato, beans, cheese (HEA)
Snack: Alpen light (half HEB)
Dinner: Pasta, broccoli, mushrooms, pesto (3 syns), cheese (HEA)
Snack: Kelloggs Fibre plus (HEB)

Total syns for day: 3

Total syns so far this week: 118

I really need to increase the variety in my diet - I ate almost exactly the same again today as yesterday, but got home late from work and couldn't be bothered to cook anything more complex!!

So I went to the supermarket after tea and bought lots of frozen veggies - not usually a fan of buying frozen, as they never taste as good, but if they're in the freezer then there is absolutely no excuse not to have them with every meal!!!

Wednesday: Green

Brekkie: Alpen light (half HEB)
Lunch: Baked potato, beans, cheese (HEA)
Snack: Alpen light (half HEB)
Dinner: pasta, chicken (HEB), pesto (4 syns)

Total syns for day: 4

Total syns for week so far: 122

I found some frozen white and wild rice with mixed veg in Tescos the other day - am trying to find out how many syns in it, so if anyone knows...!

Anyway, assuming it's low in syns, it's a really good freezer stand-by - it's white and wild rice with peppers, sweetcorn, peas and broccoli in it and it comes in individual portion bags that take 4 mins in the microwave! Fast, tasty and with the added bonus of extra veg!!

So today was another pretty good day:

Thursday: Green

Brekkie: Alpen light (half HEB)
Lunch: Baked potato, beans, cheese (HEA)
Snack: Alpen light (half HEB), ff yoghurt, apple
Dinner: Rice with veg (? 2 syns for the little bit of oil?), mushy pea curry with extra chicken (HEB) and mushroom
Snack: KitKat (5.5 syns - got the choccy munchies!)

Total syns for day: 7.5

Total syns for week so far: 129.5:eek:

A-ha - some lovely person has responded to my query on the syns forum - the rice is 1 syn per sachet on EE or Green...excellent news!

Oops - another night falling off the wagon last night, somehow a couple of onion bhajis and a poppadom found their way into my tummy at the curry house last night!!

Apart from that, not a bad day...

Friday: EE day

Brekkie: Alpen light (half HEB), ff yoghurt, apple
Lunch: Baked potato, cheese (HEA), beans, orange, plum
Snack: Cold chicken breast
Dinner: Poppadom (5 syns?), 1.5 onion bhajis (6 syns?), chicken dhansak (8 syns) and boiled rice

Total syns for day: 19

Total syns for week: 148.5

So, I was very pleased this morning to have lost 1lb at WI and reached my 2.5stone shiny!!! Woohoo! :D:D
