I chose not to do HRT after reading all the risk factors, been suffering a bit ever since! At one stage the flushes were like fits, every 5 mins or so - i counted. All i could do was just sit there. I tried various herbal stuff - soya helps some people, didnt do much for me. Black cohosh and a formula called menoherb helped for a bit. Trouble is all these things seem to lose their effect after a while.
I now take clonodine, but its not wholly effective. The weight came on after the menopause, but although now lost the weight, dukan hasnt made much difference to the sweats and flushes
Its a grim old thing, i wish i knew how long it goes on for, my doctor just says it varies, but its been 5-6 years already. My mum said it went on for her about 6 years. Although i recall she used to go bright red, im lucky in that i just sweat (lovely!) but no one normally notices. Sometimes i feel quite faint with it, but like most things, it passes.
