There's no council tax... Just the household charge and then you gotta pay for bins & tv license too of course. The car tax is a LOT more than you'd pay in britain I hear though? It was EUR190 for 6 months tax on my car. Oh and they're bringing in water charges.... In short - don't move to ireland lol ;)

See I think council tax goes towards nhs costs! We pay water, car tax can vary my new fiesta was only £20 a year but my oh had a proton Satria that was £210 a yr my new car is £120 as it's petrol!

And we pay tv licence too, but not bins yet, I think they were gonna bring it in

What's the household charge for

How much is council tax? Do you have to pay that every month???
We just have the 20% tax on our wages (40% on the higher wage tax band) and we also have a 1% levy & some "universal service charge" or something... Which is jargon they use to take more money out of our wages lol!! We pay PRSI... which is basically paying for benefits for other people because I ain't entitled to anything myself lol. It's all messed up.
Ah I thought road tax was cheaper over there! I couldn't afford the year, it was EUR350 or something like that... That's a small diesel car, it can be more than that for others... Insane.

I have no idea... There's war over it here. It's just a bullsh1t charge they brought in, 100 quid a year for the pleasure of living in a house really. They _say_ it's for things like water charges and fire services (which makes no sense because if you ring the fire brigade you have to pay them to come out) and sure they're gonna bring in water charges anyway. Ack... These governments are robbing us!!

My council tax is about £120 a month it depends on where in the country you are and the size of your property

Council tax covers fire, nhs ect!
We pay another tax depending on earnings. So we have 2 types of tax! It's all just the government taking ppl's money, it's worth paying council tax for emergency services but when u pay road tax and the government never fix the roads is annoying!

Yeah we have to pay for emergency services if we need them. Pretty annoying that all the tax we pay doesn't cover it?
Stupid money grabbing governments. Hate how corrupt they all are... Grrr.

Dont' pay council tax as yet.. But as Sarah just said we pay household charge (just been introduced), bin charges, water charges are being introduced next year, we pay stamp duty when buying a house (unless its brand new!).. Then we have car tax, TV license...

Yea tracey.. Always tastes like it needed a few more mins.. You get used to the texture. I much prefer it to white rice now.. Can't stand the texture of white rice anymore.. And it keeps you fuller for longer I find..
What's the household charge for
Good question!!!
Its meant to contribute to youth clubs n playground maintenance etc in all areas but me ar5e! Its just another way to sponge money off us.. Even tho the take more tax from our wages n increased the VAT rates!!
I come home with nearly €300 less per month now, than I did when I started my job 5 years ago!! I've never had an increase as they jumped on the "we can't afford it, we're in a recession" bandwagon.. And taxes have since increased so much that's how much its costing me.. PLUS.. they've just cut our pension contribution payment too!! Used to ya 8% of my salary, now they pay 6%.. Not a huge drop for me but some of the girls have been cut from 12 n 16% to 6%... We're just ROBBED

Exactly Sarah.. Me either..
My poor Mam must have sent in 100 applications for a medical card as she had severe asthma, arthritus n thyroid n was refused time n time again.. Even the doctor was applying on her behalf but she couldn't get one coz my Dad was self imployed (she also wasn't entitled to have any sort of welcome income due to him working for himself so was 100% relying on him for money!)... The morning she died her mobile rang.. Guess who?? Social welfare with the good news she'd been granted a medical card!

It's amazing the difference in charges it's not like its comparing uk and America, ireland isn't that far away!

Do u guys get child Benefit? Over here everyone gets £20 a wk child benefit from birth till end of education for their children, I think second child is less than that tho! And everyone gets it, it's nit calculated via earnings?!

Yea we get children's allowance (Personally I think this should be cut. I don't see why the government should pay ppl coz they choose to have kids.. but we'll leave that argument for another day :D) THINK its €140/150 per month for the first child, n I know less for the second but not sure by how much
