Aww poor Stringer. Maybe you should carry a stick with you when walking again, just so if it happens again you can give the other dog a slap on the nose to get rid of it. Definately report it. There is an alsatian dog beside my moms that is always out and about by itself. Mum is nervous of it as it ran after my sisters dog, she had to lift the dog and run for the house!!! But she was telling the owner to keep it in his yard. Owner is an ass....but anyway he never listened and a few weeks ago it ripped my mums cat to pieces, mum was so so upset. We reported the dog to the gardaí, it could have been one of our babies in the yard!!!! Some people should just not have dogs :-(

Laura, I'm going to do this from now on. I'd have no worries about beating it off with a stick, then the owner too if they started.

Wow I had no idea! Aw and most of those dogs are softies!! I've known other breeds that can be vicious..Shame you have to do that with Stringer!
It's the owners..not the dogs!

I know yea.. But I suppose because they have the potential to become big strong fighter dogs........
And yea totally agree.. If the dog is brought up and trained properly it'll be as gentle as anything.. its the owner is the one to watch!

I know.. I just wanted to be sure the dog would be safe.. Altho sometimes I know that means removing it from its owner but I'd die if Stringer was taken from me now.. Restricted breed or not I love the bones of him.. realised just how much last night when I thought that viscious thing had killed him!!!

Oh I see! I never knew there was such a thing. Ironically I studied the control of dogs act for my tort law exam a few weeks ago and never spotted that! Thats a worrying sign hah. X

Aw not at all.. I only know coz we now have Stringer.. We had no idea getting him there was such a list..
We had a GSD when I was a kid n he was the softest kidest thing int he world.. My Dad was shocked when I told him that breed was on the list...

Tracy a man came out with a plank of wood and was hitting the dog with it but it had no affect at all.. But I mean, at that stage he's already gotten hold of Stringer.. Maybe if he'd got there sooner it would have been different...

Think you need to hit them on the nose Frances, only place the feel the pain. Very scary experience definately, one of the reasons I don't have a dog.

Oh my god I hope u both r ok now! Sounds so scary! Tilly had 2 farm collies try and attack her in the field once, it's lucky the owner called them as I was about to whack them one with my ball thrower, and believe me it would b at full force too! Def carry something with u! Give stringer a big kiss and cuddle from me!

Blimey that dog was in the zone then Hun! Scary! And yes all those dogs are big breeds so I know what you mean.Plus a lot of owners have no control once their dog is off lead!
Just a shame at the same time,Ruby my staff would be heartbroken if she couldn't run and catch her tennis ball!

Yea so I believe.. Well lesson learnt by me I can tell you that much.. Will not be walking alone again and will defo carry some sort of stick/ball thrower..

I know it really is a shame.. We currently let Stringer off the lead when we're in the park and there's not many people or dogs around.. Just to give him a good run as you do with Lola.. but when he's bigger we won't be able to.. As he's to be kept on a short lead so we can't even get one that extends out to give him some freedom.. but that's the terms of keeping him so not much we can do..
He also won't be allowed in the doggy playground when he's bigger as his breed isn't allowed in there.. Hopefully we can get there sometimes when there's no-one in it and he can hav a run but otherwise he won't be allowed.. Muzzle or no muzzel

We walked in the vet last wk and there was a lady with a pram and a big stringer, and the dog did corner Tilly and started biting at her neck and I wasn't sure what to do but the lady pulled him quickly away and it wasn't a full on attack so I was relieved! I kinda thought seeing as the dog lives with a 2 yr old it would b fine with Tilly but obviously not! I'm sure if u train stringer right then he will b as soft as teddy bear! Has he got any wounds?

It seems a bit crazy to generalise all of those breeds, like if he cannot be off the lead when he is bigger seems a wee bit unfair if he is a soft dog who does no harm!!

I kinda thought seeing as the dog lives with a 2 yr old it would b fine with Tilly but obviously not! I'm sure if u train stringer right then he will b as soft as teddy bear! Has he got any wounds?

No thankfully none. He got away lucky

Thanks Sparkle.. yea it was but thankfully he wasn't hurt.. N hopefully after the Dog Warden goes out the owners of the other will take more care!!
