From here to inskinnity! My mission to lose 13.5 stone!

Hi,

Bev, I loved the first dress.

Kay, 5 days a week I swim 60 lengths a day and typically use anywhere between 3-10 syns a day. I would say I lose on average 2lbs a week. Quite often it's 2-3lbs but I would say you can't guarantee it - 2 weeks ago I only lost 0.5lb, which I was a bit gutted about, but then last well I lost 3lbs. While I am not exactly an athlete, I think 60 lengths a day (it works out at 4 3/4 miles a week) is quite substantial. I guess what I am saying is that you can (and most people should get a decent amount of) exercise as well as following the plan but it doesn't always equate to bigger losses. I would say I almost always get a loss of some sort and it's fairly constant but it can just as easily and for absolutely no reason be a small loss.

Thanks Amanda, me and Bev were just saying that, your right there's no guarantee, but the only reason I wanted to repeat myself is because it worked for me in the past and we are all different. I know it's not a realistic way forward your right we have to eat, that's why I was thinking of doing it for a short term and observing the results. The great part is I can share it with all of you, whatever comes from it good or bad, at least I have my safe 1-2lb loss to go back to :).

Kay xx

Kay - First of all stop beating yourself up for gaining while your sis was here. I know its not as easy as that, my hardest time on plan was losing my holiday gain, but be kind to yourself and don't go calling yourself stupid missy. You're far from stupid, sometimes life just gets in the way of things and weight loss isn't always one of our top priorities. Anyway, you know what I'm getting at, I think sometimes we're our own harshest critic. You've still lost nearly 3 stone in total which is an amazing achievement!

11.5lbs is a great loss for August, did you enjoy the month though or did you feel deprived? If it worked before there's no reason the same strategy can't work again, but if it was me I'd be seriously getting sick of the same food after the first week. Maybe you could try and mix up salads and something warmer like soup, I don't know about you but when its cold and icy outside the last thing I fancy is salad every day. Can see why that worked for august though, I could live off the stuff in summer!

Anyway I guess realistically you've got nothing to lose, but like Amanda said there's no guarantees with the exercise. I think the reason it doesn't work as well with me is that after exercise I get so hungry that I eat much larger portions, even if its free food it's still got extra calories.

Will be a really interesting experiment to see how you get on, hopefully you'll have a great week and if you don't its not like you've really lost out on anything. Like you say you can just go back to what you were doing before and get the lower consistent losses. xx

Thanks Bev, if I be honest I think I will see what Tuesdays results bring and maybe decide on that day. Last week I lost 3.5 and that was without exercise and 10-15 syns a day, but I know every week can't be like that. If I loose 3lbs or more again then I would much prefer to stay on the 10-15 syns and no exercise until my losses start to slow then I think it will be time for a change. If I lose maybe 1lb on Tuesday or even worse less, I may kick start the new plan on Wednesday. Will keep posting on my diary with updates. Sorry for taking up so much of your time on here :), but I really appreciate it, you've really helped. If I can be of any help to you anytime, do not hesitate to ask.

Hugs Kay xx

:bighug:

No worries hun, post here any time! Think its the best waiting till WI to decide what to do. 3.5lbs is a great loss and if you can manage that and not deprive yourself then why bother making life harder than it needs to be? Just see how you get on on Tue. I'm not really expecting much after that 4lbs last week but we'll see. As long as it's a step in the right direction I'll be happy.

Have a good night hun, been nice chatting xx

Night night hun xx

Wow, size 16 tops is a huge achievement :)

As others have said you have got a lovely figure. A real hour glass shape. Your waist is tiny!

Beef & bean hotpot sounds delish, I need to get myself a slow cooker.

Have a nice day xx

Arghh I'm so annoyed. Made yummy 2 egg and mashed banana pancakes this morning and they were gorgeous. Anyway I never mash or cook fruit, EVER, so I totally forgot about the fact that fruit should be syned when its cooked. So instead of being free the pancakes worked out at 5 syns!

Anyway, now I'm going to have one of my rants about why sometimes I don't agree with SW, so if you don't want to be bored silly I suggest you look away now... Okay, you've been warned! :D

I completely get that when fruit is mashed or cooked it loses its volume and isn't as filling, so you can eat more and it needs a syn value. Sophie just pointed out on FB that cooking fruit it isn't optimising the calories, completely right as uncooked fruit will satisfy you more. But if you're still eating the same amount of fruit as you'd have raw, does it really matter? Calories wise everything is the same after all and that's what really matters when it comes to weight loss.

This isn't really the bit which bugs me though, I can see why SW has to protect people's weight loss by not allowing them to eat unlimited smoothies/OJ/pancakes. BUT, and there's always a but, what I DON'T agree with is when I get told about a 'syn free alternative' that's incredibly unhealthy in comparison! Now just so you can see here are the ingredients in the 2 pancake recipes:

1. 2 eggs and a banana - 5 syns
2. 1 egg, 6 tablespoons of sweetener, vanilla extract - syn free (Slimming World Syn Free Pancakes! | Baking Bad)

Does anyone else see the problem here?!! I mean bloody hell, SIX TABLESPOONS of SWEETENER! I'm sure anyone would agree that recipe 1 is a million times healthier than the second one, yet is has 5 syns as oppose to none! Madness!

So yeah, I'm being a little rebel today and refusing to syn my pancakes, they were my brunch with loads of super free berries on the side and only 250 cals. So nope, I refuse to syn em! :p to you SW! :D

Thanks Emma, yeah slow cooker is amazing. Think you can pick them up quite cheap from Argos and the like, I'd be lost without it. Great for casseroles and things. Can smell it cooking atm and can't wait! x

Bev, I wouldn't syn it if it's a one off!

I had a smoothie the other day....used 1 banana,1 apple and a yog...all free/super free foods and I refuse to syn it!
I had nothing else for breakfast so I'm not doing it! Although I do get why they suggest it....if I had 5 or something!

I don't think it'll have an effect on your loss....it's been a one off, you didn't use 10 bananas when you wouldn't usually! Xx

Yeah that's it Missk, just needs to be taken with a pinch of salt and common sense sometimes x

Backtracking a bit here!

Feels amazing to see clothes get baggy- until you realise they make you look sh*t LOL! Nothing worse than feeling successful for your weight loss but then ill fitting clothes making you look less sexy than your new bod, eh!?

Fast days are HARD! Well done for attempting! Sounded quite traumatic though- sorry to hear that (and know how you feel!)
120cal for two mini babybels could have been used way better IMO... Half a tin of baked beans or a sachet of Oats So Simple with kara milk would have filled you up way more for the same amount of calories! I'm not one to talk though as you can see on my fast days I always end up having chocolate tea cakes and then regretting it LOL! Also grapes are so liquidy that they aren't filling for very long, the calories are all for sugar which wouldn't satiate long. I'm still looking for the formula to a good fast day where you don't feel hungry; if I avoid the wasted chocolate calories next time and have beans on toast (200 cal), porridge sachet with kara milk (120) then maybe a salmon steak with spinach (270cal) then I don't think the hunger would be an issue- just the cravings!

The idea of 5:2 is you can see light at the end of the tunnel as you know the next day you can have all the pizza/cake you want! But teaming it with SW doesn't give us that support blanket so I think makes the 'deprivation' feel worse... I do find that constant green tea drinking makes the hunger go away! Also feels great to flush out with lots of fluids during a food detox, but can't imagine not having constant kettle access and managing a fast now lol :D
I admire your attempt but agree that you don't need it right now al all! You're doing so well and you will continue to for probably another year or so! You are around my start weight now (well, half a stone below nearly!) so this time next year you will probably be not far off my weight- I started properly in Jan (only lost 2lbs over that first xmas) so yeah, that's a cool thing to look at! In the 13's by next year ;) Don't worry about things slowing for like 10 months yet!

As for the pancakes thing- I am sooo with you on the rant for mashed fruit being synned. I can see both sides of it though!
On one hand- juicing fruit is an awful way of using 'free' fruit, so yeah, that should be banned. Smoothies really aren't filling either- yeah, a little bit, but not compared to eating the whole punnet of strawberries, blueberries and banana on their own, which would take about 20x longer to consume than the smoothie and thus help the 'food optimising thing'. Also sauces- if you mashed up strawberries to make a sauce that would be silly waste of calories too... But things like fried banana, cooked apple, etc- is so silly to syn!
I CAN see how people could abuse it, so I think there should just be a daily allowance for it really. It's encouraging people to have high cal desserts (because fruit is high cal!) without accounting for them... But I had a dilemma when I made a potato pancake once- I wanted to slice and fry the banana I was otherwise going to have sliced and raw on top... I was thinking "It's REALLY stupid to be limiting myself here when it would be SO much nicer fried, with no extra calories, but SW wants me to syn this." again- I can see how if this were allowed we'd be frying up a batch of 3 bananas caramelized in honey and sweetner any time we wanted a low syn dessert, and that would be 350 cal or something! OR we'd be saying "I would have had these three bananas raw otherwise..." to compensate :p but yeah... I think there should be a HexC for x amount of cooked fruit, within certain boundaries for food optimising (i.e. something you still chew or something)

250 cal for those pancakes at 5 SYNS vs a f*cking mugshot for 250cal and 'FREE' urgh!! I do really question SW's ethics sometimes, I really do! They're happy for us to pump ourselves full of additives, preservatives, flavourings, aspartame, carbs, etc for 'free' but not mash some f*cking fruit! *sharpens pitch fork* LOL I need to calm down :p rant over! I'm off to make f*cking banana pancakes and I aint synning sh*t!!! :D

Hi Bev :), I know what you mean about syning cooked fruit, it bugs me too, I spoke to my consultant about it because I sometimes make this dessert which is on the SW website its called `baked apple' and all it is, is a baked apple with a sprinkle of cinnamon and ff fromage frais ontop but its syned at 1 per apple which is low I know but I don't see the point ? Anyway I did look it up at the time on the net and the only explanation I found was that ` raw fruit contains more water and cooking them evaporates that water so the remaining fruit becomes more dense in calories. But that's all I could come up with .

HAHA, I love this! :D So true though, everything in moderation I guess but there must be some members who seriously abuse the 'free' stuff and fail to get the losses they are after. There are a couple of ladies at my group with a decent chunk of weight to lose who seem to lose and gain the same 5lbs all the time. Now from what they say they do stick to plan every week, but by the sounds of it really overdo the free food. One brought a big bowl of pasta in for taster last week and I'm not kidding it was HUGE, must have been 1000 cals in total. Anyway she told us she often ate the whole thing in one got if she was having a hungry day as it was 'free' - ARGH!!

Re-fasting, I definitely could have done a better job with food choices. The beans on toast/porridge/salmon sounds like a normal healthy food day to me, can't see it being that hard to stick to really. When I do attempt one again would definitely be trying something like that, though like you say there's no point til losses start slowing down and hopefully that's still a way off yet.

Would be incredible if I managed to get where you are for this time next year. Just shows it can be done anyway, can't believe you're only 2lbs away from a 'healthy' BMI, amazing! :)

Just been looking through my old books and it would appear some cooked fruits can be counted as a healthy extra b...

I don't know if that helps at all! x

Ah thanks hun, had no idea about that. Will have a look in my book later! Makes sense there should be some provision for cooked fruits though x

Week 26, Day 6 - EE
Brunch - 2 egg and banana pancakes with mixed fruit
Snack - grapes, mini plum tomatoes and 2 x mini babybel (hexa)
Tea - Minced beef and bean hot pot - 1 syn
Supper - chewy D - hexb
Total - 1 syn
Weekly syns - 92.5 syns
Approx calories - 1100

Wasn't too impressed with the hot pot, the potatoes seriously shrunk while cooking so it wasn't very filling. Next time I'd do it again but more like a cottage pie with mash on top. Anyway it's been a very tasty and low cal food day. The pancakes were a huge hit with me and Chris, will definitely be having them again!

I really want to try the banana pancakes, might try these when having an off plan day! I have a cheat meal every Saturday now I'm at target, so can't see the banana pancakes for breakfast making a difference :) I think the rule for the cooked fruit comes from the fact the sugars in fruit become different when cooked, so must be some science behind it! I've only ever done like crumbles and stuff with fruit before, so have always synned it when done but I'm like you I never cook or mash my fruit anyway so never really think about that rule! Think you've done the right thing by not synning it.

and the free food thing, I see people on facebook groups and the like over doing free foods all the time! And it's amazing how many people make the chick pea nuts 'slimming world crisps' and the lasagne sheet Doritos and things. Seriously, who makes these things up x

Rochelle, the banana pancakes were lovely. My fella even liked them and he generally can't stand slimming food.

Feeling vile today. Woke up n went to bathroom for shower only to be violently and uncontrollably sick. Poor Mischief was in the firing line too so had to chase him around the house after and clean him off! I'm just glad its next week i start my new job so I can get whatever I've got shifted x
