Following on from Frugal February, which wasn't as frugal as I had intended, but less frivolous than usual, I have started going to Aldi to get what items I can there, mainly fruit and veg, and then going to Tesco to get the remainder of my shopping, instead of paying through the nose for everything on my list!
And likewise, if it is Asda I am going to go to, I will go to Lidl first.
I don't do a weekly shop, as I can't keep the amount of food in the fridge, so shop on a Monday for Monday and Tuesday, and Wednesday for Wednesday and Thursday, and Friday for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The night before I go shopping I plan those days menus and then write my list accordingly, along with all the other household items and toiletries etc that need buying.
I have found that this not only helps me stick to SW, but saves time wandering around thinking what to buy, and means that if on a shopping trip, something is on offer, like a joint of meat, I can buy it, and then fit it into the next menu plan, before it goes out of date or has to go in the freezer.
I know shopping three times a week is not ideal for everyone, but it works for me, as I go after dropping my daughter at school, and am home by nine thirty, even after visiting two supermarkets.
