Hi Gemma, Ive just read the news about your Dad and Im really sorry to hear that they have had to lay him off.
There are firms that will take him on and since he has been loyal to one company since he was 16, this will certainly work in his favour, so there will be something for him, even if things seem a little dark at the moment.
Thats great news about your microwave too! We had the turntable plate explode on ours (its a convection one) and couldnt find the receipt to take it back to Argos, but after speaking to Customer Services was told that if I had proof of purchase ie credit card statement, they would refund it...so that worked for me!
