Getting it Done :D

Cables are 99% done :) got like 2 left to just tie off excess and tuck them in.
might get to cleaning in a bit but will probs leave that for tomorrow because I'm broken and aching all over now.

Had a rubbish food day today. had a yogurt for brekkie and didn't eat again until 4pm (was too busy to notice the time)
had some cottage cheese when I noticed the time and just had dinner so I'm on 12/29 points.

My usual cram in some points options are off the cards and most food is low points that I can have. not sure what I'll have but will figure something out although I haven't had much in the way of carbs today so I could get some cheese on toast or some weetabix with hot milk...maybe even both :D

Going to be a fight keeping my eyes open tonight

Oh I got the Michael Mosley book delivered today. Will have a read :)

okay I may have read the entire book.

Not hating the idea....just ummm I'm such a fussy eater and most of the recipes in the book are like nope nope nope nope. I do like the real food approach (sorry I know shakes and soups etc work for some, they defo aren't sustainable for me).

I could probs nail the protein and calories in a day and bulk it out with reg veg and salads. Maybe more veg packed soups. Add some nuts and seeds, can do that too.
Just don't make me eat celery, peppers or mushroom. They literally make me gag.
I can live without carbs too. Been cutting them out already ;)

Will have another look tomorrow at it all and see what kinda meals I can come up with that I do like.

Speed reader supreme!

The recipes are just suggestions, they were all a bit fancy for me too. It's more taking the essence of the guidance and eating the right sort of things, If I remember rightly he also promotes IF. I found once into it properly I could imagine eating that way long term, and plan to again because you're right - soups and shakes aren't sustainable, they are simply a means to an end for most of us. We all need to get back to food eventually.

There is a website for BSD diet, I don't think the forums are well used anymore, but there is a recipe thread there that's quite useful, lots of good ideas.

I like the Alice Liveing clean eating books - her recipes are generally pretty down to earth - and you can get them cheap as chips on Amazon, or from the library x

<3 you guys for all the suggestions.

I think I make up my mind and then I read about something else.

Whatever it is needs to be very low carb and as little sugar as possible.

someone save my sanity :rotflmao:

so don't follow any one specific 'diet' - just make your rules - so you want low carb and low sugar. Just follow that and there's loads of combinations you can eat following recipes from many sources. you can check carb counts, make switches for lower carb options in meals you like etc.

it will be the 'GLL' diet :D

still pondering options on diet :)

so I told my dad yesterday about diagnosis which was easier than I thought. Found out my uncle we think is type 2 and dad has (very well managed) high blood pressure too. Maybe not ALL my fault then :rotflmao:
He also offered to buy me a blood pressure monitor and any blood sugar monitor I wanted. Haven't really looked into it yet tho.

So dad had some very major problems with some back issues requiring emergency surgery in may (herniating something or other than required an air ambulance to a specialist hospital for emergency surgery.) Anyway same issue again but different location. Not quite the same emergency situation as last time (but still very dangerous and could lead to paralysis at any given time) so he is not doing so great. Has a phone consult with his team next week and they will urgently operate again to fix it but has to go straight to a&e if anything on a list checks off and then becomes an emergency transfer by plane again :(

On the b'day cake front, I had barely any carbs / sugar yesterday so had the teeniest of teeny piece of cake :)

Son and I are heading out shopping to get some new trainers (running shoes?) and he has some b'day money to spend :) At least I'll get some extra steps in around the shopping centre ;)

Yeah, they usually have months and months long waiting lists to even get a consult. They wont leave him without the surgery due to the high risk of paralysis. Trying not to stress too much but will call my friend down in England who is near the hospital dad would need to attend and make sure there's an option still to invade there if I have to get the train down (should only really be in the case of something not going too well).

Shopping went okay. Got a couple of pairs of trainers. One (proper) walking pair (and for when its icy and rubbish out which will be a ton since..well...Scotland) and some normal trainers for everyday use. Didn't decimate the bank either ;)
Also got a new handbag because my beloved kipling bag one just wont fit a tub of lunch in it and my water bottle. Went cheap (£10) and will keep an eye out for something I like more after xmas. I am a firm believer in buying a good handbag and purse.

Son wanted his usual KFC so I had a single mini fillet which I figured was the less bad of a bad bunch of options :) Come home, had a ham salad with some cottage cheese so I'm all topped up and full :)

Also forgot to mention 1 1/2 lb loss showed up on the scales :)

Thank you so much for the offer. so freaking kind <3
Dad will be in The Walton Centre in Liverpool so a little far from you. Buddy is in Liverpool too ;)
Hopefully all will just go well 🤞

Been posting a little over at a diabetic forum who are also full of awesome peeps and very much of the opinion of don't ask your doctor or team about diet advice as they always promote the eatwell plate which is basically just evil for us (carbs carbs carbs).
More peeps saying they have bought their T2 into remission by doing keto. Also suggesting to get blood testing monitors yourself so you can see what agrees and doesn't agree with you as it can be very individualised. (looks like my dad will get an invoice soon haha).

So my homework is keto foods I can practically make and eat (im so fussy lol) and eventually a shopping list. Keto friendos...be prepared for a gazillion questions heh

On the whole GPs aren't specialists and they just rely on the standard info and ignore the evidence re keto. I've seem loads of case studies on the Diet Doctor website about people who were able to stop taking meds caused partly by a carby diet! Go for it, i say :).

Same with my restless leg. I asked my new GP about it and without even blinking she said "Ah yes let me prescribe you a dopamine agonist" - to which I said no thanks, they are horrible things, work for a short period but then cause huge augmentation (a kind of rebound) problems and everyone on the RLS forums say to avoid at all costs. And she looked at me as if I'd insulted her personally...which I guess I had, because she didn't even bother to ask properly about it - whereas i had done my research.

oh mannn @GLL I'm sorry about your Dad, I hope everything works out ok, he sounds a lovely man and it's very nice of him to help you with the devices.

Diet doctor website has heaps of recipes too, even without paying for membership.

Diet doctor is where I should have been doing my homework...instead it was on amazon and boots BUT I found a choice of 2 monitors that I could get and can readily get test strips both online and in a chemist.

I just wish some things with the healthcare peeps could be a discussion and not a "heres a script...off ya pop".

ok first I'm going to say I KNOW I said I wasn't going to but new plan...sorta

Newcastle diet - using meal replacement for 3 meals a day and having 3-4 portions of veg (not fruit) a day to make up to about 800. could make some home made soup.
Have a small milk allowance for my coffee :)
They have listed some brands of shakes on there, tesco ones are on and I have some already as they are good brekkie substitutes for me when I cant deal with food in the mornings. They come in at about £4.30 for 10 so 2 boxes a week (3 now n again) plus milk and veg saving me on shopping budget which I can put towards keto plan as outlined below.
Also could use a little less milk in the shakes and replace with water if I need more milk for coffee ;)

12 weeks on that - or whatever I can manage
You are supposed to transition into replacing shakes with meals one by one over 2-6 weeks after the initial 12 weeks.
I would transition into keto / low carb diet from there.

Ideally I want to be on keto and I did find a bunch of recipes and stuff that make me believe I could do it without too much issue, except one thing, buying all the extra staff to get it going.
I want to give myself every chance of success because keto / low carb will be a way of life for me because of the diabetes.
I will have 12 weeks (pushing me into Feb) to stock up on essentials and get any equipment I need to be ready to go. Maybe transition sooner if I get on top of the shopping.

I was up until 2am weighing it all up and decided last night but wanted to sleep on the idea before making my mind up :)

I have a box of 10 shakes here already so will probs start it all at some point next week, wont be doing another Tescos until Thursday.

thoughts (honest and brutal if need be)?

oh and also...
Morning peeps <3 (lol)

Great news - Smear test results came back...all good and clear and don't need another one for 5 years :)

I don't think my brain could cope with more stuff going on :rotflmao:

awesome news about the smear :)

your plan sounds good to me. I can't do pure keto - it's too hard for me, but I'm definitely on the low carb train with you. It can be as easy or as complicated as you choose to make it - I really love a cheese or boiled egg salad for example.

The only gadget I've bought that I use for low carb is a waffle maker to make chaffles, but I bought a multipurpose one and the kids use it for paninis too.

I don't find general low carb difficult to shop for, so I'm sure you'll make this work, you can even still use your weightwatchers point system as well if you want, but I don't think you'll need to. The essence of removing processed snacks will drop your points a lot naturally.

Good luck, see you on the low carb train when I'm done with exante, chooo chooo

chooo chooo
waffle maker on the list ;) Also could be doing with a food processor for blitzing stuff as mine got binned a few years ago and never replaced.

interested in making "keto bread" and "keto asian noodles" and loads of other stuff but some ingredients isn't readily available here (ie aldi or tesco) and ones to order online are larger (expensive) packs. plus I want a good range of (not out of date) herbs / spices / seeds etc etc.
Just too much to get setup with everything at once and xmas around the corner plus my brain might explode if I try and look into more stuff. :rotflmao:
WW is going in the bin after I start shakes :)

Just got back from town with my son.
The health food shop has closed down. Wanted to see what selection they had in the way of stuff for keto (almond and coconut flours) but nope...clearly none now haha.
Went to boots to see about ordering test strips for the blood glucose monitor and they actually had some in the pharmacy side (even though the store checker said there were none in). The lassie was great and said I can phone ahead when I need more as they don't tend to keep them in stock. What was even better is if I ordered them from boots website I would have paid £20 for 50 and I was charged £13.50 odds.
Aldi haul was boring but I did get some dark choc (totally blaming @ladyfelsham as she was on about it yesterday(?) )
Son did a gregs and I abstained. Please, I need cookie rewards for that accomplishment...wait no...no cookies...cookies bad :banghead:

So tomorrow I get my blood glucose monitor delivered, a box of stabby stabby lances and my blood pressure monitor from amazon. I'm super rubbish with needles so this will be an interesting experience in how long it will take me to get the courage press the button on the lancer 😆. Probs best not to do bp and bloods at the same time 😬
