I'm on 20-30g (approx) low carb/with a bit of IF - and absolutely love it. I joined the Keto Fitness Club for all their resources - UK family, lots of fab recipes online and YT videos - and they do bread! They have a kickstart workshop, I think the next one is mid November, but have a good browse around this -

The following will make it sound like I'm in the pay of the KFC but I am just such a fan. This is week 5 for me, weigh in day tomorrow, and so far I've lost 17lbs. I'm loving cooking, but nothing has to be a major kitchen challenge, just protein and a bit of veg - but I would really recommend you do the workshop. I thought I knew it all where low carb was concerned but couldn't have been more wrong. I took notes through my workshop and some key things were -
- eating carbs makes you tired
- one calorie is not like another, our body treats them differently
- high blood pressure = a low tolerance to carbs
- low fat long term is proven to lead to metabolic damage (he produces evidence but I can't remember what it was)
- there is no nutritional value in carbs - so that's why we eat so much of them - because we're eating until we get our protein requirement
- protein is more important the older we get
- our fuel comes from fat, and this fat comes protein
- don't overload with added fats like cream etc at the start
- don't worry about tracking, listen to your body, use measurements as your tracking
Medically - I told my GP and he was delighted, he's on low carb himself, ditto my cardio consultant (I saw him in week 3) - who said even though it was early days for me on low carb, he was sure it had contributed to my BP stabilising and my heart rate dropping from dangerous to normal, and I now don't have to go back to see him for another 12 months.
Have a look at the KFC Facebook public group -
https://www.facebook.com/groups/KetoFitnessClubPublic - they do face to face Friday where people share pics and stories, some of which are incredible - it's not always about huge losses (although those are there too) but about how people now feel they have conquered bad eating patterns, anxiety, and so on - and they are just such a nice bunch, hugely supportive.
I really do see this being a lifestyle choice now - and I'm making and eating glorious food, losing weight and looking after myself.
Examples of meals over the last few days -
- chicken coconut curry
- pork belly with a salt and pepper rub on cauli mash with cream and butter
- beef stroganoff
- lamb shawarma
- cauli mac and cheese - absolutely lovely with a bit of sproing onion and bacon bits
I'll stop going on about them now lol - but shout if you have any questions. The shop can be expensive, and there are cheaper alternatives, but I honestly feel like it's the best move I could have made, I was really floundering before x
