Going it alone....

Ah cool I'm really pleased the online membership is working for you :) I've tried it in the past and struggled with the pack of group support.

I'm personally finishing minimins the best source of support for me as its on tap 24/7 xx

Thanks flick, it's all about what motivates you as an individual, isn't it. I was worried about the lack of group support at first, but realised that it's not praise that motivates me, it's the challenge :-D I'm more of a visual person so having it all "written down" in front of me is what helps.

I've not posted on MINIMINS before now, but I've seen how supportive everyone is on here and can see why it works for you :-D x

I suppose it depends entirely on the time you have to spend to "do a bit of looking around".
With a business to run and a toddler to raise, i need things that are quick and easy to find without having to think too much about it.
I'm sure there are many people in the same situation which can sometimes be the reason we put on weight in the first place - not having time to think about what we eat and prepare it.

I've been using minimins for a while and for a free site, it is great, I absolutely agree, but I just haven't the time to be looking for the right thread and topic with recipes or advice about excercise that suit my lifestyle.

For me, the great thing about SW online is that the site is so easy to navigate and everything is to hand immediately without having to spend time searching for the right thread or topic.
Type in one or a couple of ingredients you have to hand on SW and they will find you a recipe.

If you're making use of the site to its full capacity then it is worth every penny.

I was writing another reply but I think it could be taken the wrong way so I'll just say I'm glad sw online works for you and we'll leave it that :D

...oops (poppy)

Could be much worse considering I'm on a big nasty monthly, and the stress I've had.

Anyway back on it today. Still not very well so skipped breakfast. Made up for it at lunch. A smash vegetable pizza with hex A of mozzerella, muller yog and banana.

Just sat in the garden and planned my weeks meals xx

Mmn I fancy proper pizza, that's bad ain't it. 1lb gain is v. respectable considering the week you'vr had :)

Hope you enjoyed the garden time, bit of peace for you xx

"I was writing another reply but I think it could be taken the wrong way"? Why would anyone bother to say that if they weren't being antagonistic.... If you can't respect our difference of opinion, please don't reply LoChan.

I have an opinion that those who have chosen to reply to my post re SW online have failed to convince me that MINIMINS is the way forward as they have taken the time to attempt to give reason why SW online is no more useful than mini's, then logged a gain....

Please take that statement for what it is.
In my opinion, it is proof that you need more that you can get from minis, albeit it is a great site with evident support from other members.
When I made my first post, it was merely my opinion and I was enthusiastic about it, but clearly LoChan's defence response kicked in and the reply was laced with "no offence, but" comments.

If you have something to say LoChan, please don't mince your words or dress it up with niceties and fake smilies when it is clear you have beef. It makes it easier to respect your statements.

*shrugs* as I said before let's agree to differ and leave it at that. I don't think Ali's diary is the place for getting into an argument, there's no need for it.

Absolutely! Come on girls, we are all in the same boat.

I appreciate its not always easy to hear someone's opinion when it differs from our own, especially when we have invested into it financially.

My opinion is that I lost 9.5 stone with slimming world. It was a combination of classes (i moved), online subscription, and simply doing it alone at home. The only common factor that led to my success was my mind set. That switch had flicked! I believe this, along with friendly support and mutual respect is what gets us to our goal.

I gained a pound this week. Doesn't sound like much but in terms of my mind set it felt awful. I have turned it around and I'm more determined for it because I was able to come and use this forum for support! I've not had to pay for this, and being a student nurse and mother of 3 I really appreciate it.

I'm actually a little offended by this!!! Taken the time to convince you about minimins then logged a gain??? Do you not think that at times even with your online membership life may get in the way at times? I made no attempt to convince you, nor do I have any interest in doing so. Your post is actually in my diary!! You need to accept you have made a choice and mine is different, end of!!

This forum is a source of support not antagonistic attitudes. If how we speak offends you then don't read my diary :(

I apologise if you feel offended by what I wrote. It was in no way intended to upset you. It wasn't a response to you, it was a response to LoChan who, in the first instance was, as i said, antagonistic & defensive in her response.

Crikey. #Hypersensitivesouls :)

Open minds anyone??

Flicktheswitch, you seem to be a little caught in the crossfire here as you seem like a lovely person, but sadly it does seem to be a bit cliquish here and lovely as it is that you support one another it seems you are quick to alienate newbies with differing opinions.

Sad, because as you say, we are all here for the same reason...

Not atal. I feel it's you that is hypersensitive, and unable to accept people not agreeing with your opinion.

There is no 'clique'. Just let it go and be offensive elsewhere!

RIGHT, on with my diary.

Really got back down to it yesterday. I found I was really hungry and craving white bread nd sugars. I know this is because I fell off track the back end of last week and I'm craving the same foods. I feel really good about the little gain now. After all over 2 weeks I am still 8lb lighter! Win!

After having the smash pizza (yum) and yogurt and banana, I had an apple on the school run. For dinner I had some Joes Chinese pork steak (gorgeous!) some syn free wedges and a massive salad. In the evening I was so hungry, I weighed 100g of pretzels (5syn) and had kiwi raspberry and strawberries with fat free yogurt.

Today I've missed breakfast again :/
I think with just trying to get back into the swing of back to school, I'm not feeling organised with the little ones and spend more time chasing up packed lunches, pe kits, hair clips, uniforms etc etc to think about breakfast! I have done the grocery shopping. Lidl, asda, home bargains AND Aldi haha. Feels silly really but I'm lucky in that all these shops are fairly close together and at the moment I can make the most of the offers.

Grabbed a banana during shopping, was feeling drawn to pastries! Have had a lunch of low fat super noodles, beans and RC sausages. It was MASSIVE! I am going to eat watermelon a lot today to get the super free in, but I just needed a big lunch that felt naughty.

Off to wash the car to burn it off a bit hahaha xx

What pretzels did you have? They sound like a bargain synwise!

I know what you mean about feeling too busy in the morning for brekkie - get it down you when you can though.

The massive lunch sounds more satisfying than the pastries and better for you too :) You could always syn a bit of white bread if the craving keeps niggling at you. I found ww crumpets in tesco today, think they'll work out at 3.5 syns so two with a little bit of jam would come out at 8-9 syns. I can top them with banana for some superfree too I suppose lol

They are tescos giant pretzels. 99 calories for 100g. I buy them to put in the kids packed lunches instead of crisps.

My tea was soooo nice. Rick made me a curry. He is the curry king, and he has totally got the grasp of using fry light instead of oil, and puts well over a third of it as super free veg :) he has all the spices and seeds and pods etc, out comes the pestle and mortar and the house transforms into a gorgeous smelling curry pot. He made fragrant basmati rice with fresh lemon and coriander. He then made strawberry, raspberry and blueberry fruit salad with yogurt for pudding. That bit of support means so much!

I have been reading what you say about syns Lo. You were right a few weeks ago when you suggested I shoul be using them. I don't use them often atal, and I think I'm being good but really I would do better to use them. I deprive myself when I don't need to and it leads to me falling off track too often!

I got some pink and whites today. Will have a couple of them with an options later.

Also keep forgetting my B!!! Gonna go soak some oats for magic pancake tomorrow xx

Sorry, it's 25g I had not 100 lol. Works out at about 5 pretzels but they are giant ones xx

It seemed like an I can't believe it's not butter thing, well I guess it is butter in this case lol Still 1 syn each more or less is pretty decent :)

You are lucky, a cooking man with skillz! Mine doesn't cook, doesn't wash up and doesn't eat anything interesting lol But he's better with the exercise support so not all bad - it really helps having the O/H's support.

I think making sure you definitely have your healthy extras is the priority over syns but I really do think syns are an important part of the plan too :)

I spend quite a few on adding things to meals like bertolli spray olive oil (0.5 syn for 7 sprays), salad dressings/mayo, bit of extra cheese or bread here and there etc That way I keep my daily syn total fairly consistent, there's room for sweet treats but I don't go overboard with them. Plus the extras I add to meals are nice but will also be easy to cut back on if/when I need to start having fewer syns. Be proud to be a Synner lol

Mmmn magic pancakes - I've pencilled those in for breakfast on friday when I've got a day off, I love them

Yeah good idea!

I woke up with major food guilt. After my tea and fruit salad, I had two pink and whites through the evening. After laying in bed for hours I got up and had a mug of options, a banana, a muller light and 2 more pink and whites. It took my syns total to 12 which wasn't too bad, but just knowing I'd eaten so much so late at night I feel guilty.

Today's a new day. Had magic pancakes with strawberries and blueberries and fat free yog. Have just got back from a really long strenuous walk through woodland with rick. It was so beautiful. I've had an apple waiting for lunch. I'm having chickpea Dahl and rice. Just feel soooo hungry recently. I figure I am best to eat through it, so long as I stick to plan. I wish I could shake off food guilt xx

No food guilt! It doesn't do you any favours so I forbid it :whoopass::D

I've done the same thing with pink and whites, they're a bit moreish aint they... Hm, I'm pondering if you could freeze them - they'd be out of sight then at the very least. Who knows, they might be really good frozen or they could be zapped in the micro. Might be worth an experiment

The walk sounds like a lovely way to spend time with your O/H. Hope you've enjoyed the rest of your day too xxx

Thanks Hun, I've had a lovely day thanks. I'm starting my next ward placement next Monday so just enjoying my final days off. I will have to work right through the summer. I will be relying on you all for food ideas on the ward too, I will need to be super organised :)

Had joes sausage for tea with jersey royals carrots and broccoli. Followed by a load of water melon. I've had far too much coffee today *twitch*

Xxx

I want to poke you to make you twitch more, I'm evil lol

Hope the stint on the wards goes well. My brother is just finishing his first placement - he got thrown in the deep-end getting put on the crisis team  He seems to be managing well though, he's doing a ward placement over the summer too starting in mid july :) He's had some right dodgy lecturers though, a nurse came to speak about empathy, bedside manner type stuff etc and she completely tore into one of the students in front of everyone and reduced her to tears. God knows how she is with her patients :sigh:

Oh crikey! That's not good! What Uni is he at? I'm at Huddersfield. There have been a few teething problems with the running of the course as its the first year of it being a degree programme, but on the whole I've found all the lecturers to be really nice and understanding.

I did my last placement with a community mental health team. I did meet with the crisis team a few times. I really liked the creative approach the team had. I think we are all dropped in the deep end really and I think it's a good thing. Sink or swim :) I did two weeks on an acute inpatient ward and it was a great learning experience, if a little terrifying.

Lol@poking me!! Hahahaha xxx
