IF AT FIRST YOU DON'T SUCCEED, try try try again and again (and again...)

Congratulations JO :D

im also not wearing a frilly frock... too old for that look LOL im hoping its gonna be a slinky number haha
Are you getting married this year too? Did I miss something?

It was lovely being able to go upstairs to bed to sleep this weekend (probably only because OH had been there three days before I arrived Friday night so the house had "warmed up" a little). I'm not so sure we won't be back on the sofa bed in front of the fire this Friday night!

Normal Dukan weekend for me - eating when not hungry etc etc. This has to be the hardest thing for me to correct, as an obsessive eater. The need to EAT to excess...

Slinky dress? Nah! That won't hide my excess skin (some of it has refilled with flab!)... I won't be putting any pressure on myself to be thinner for the day either, as that's a guaranteed way to send me off the rails...

x

yep at some point thins year jo ... were running away to do it lol

I call this indiscriminate eating and I wish I knew how to fix it! Sticking to dukan food means I shouldn't have any gain but I'd rather not go thru life with this dysfunction...open milk tray, eat entire milk tray (not just 1 or 2). Supposedly after the first few bites you don't need to eat any more anyway. That must be in some parallel universe or somewhere:eek:

Cheesegirl - that's it! Absolutely! And I even manage to do it when on Dukan :D

Ellie - tell me more... Gretna Green? I'm actually getting rather carried away well in advance and my little tiny do is... growing! My next job is telling some cousins and Aunts that it's happening but that they're not invited! Perhaps I could be slightly more diplomatic... "it's happening but just a tiny do and not worth their while travelling..."

thats why we are running away Jo then there is no arguments LOL... we thought about gretna or las vegas LOL....hubby looking into getting married while we are in france but its a nono ... so I think we are going to hop on a plane to new york and get hitched there

At least you'll not need to provide trillions of translations there... I remember a documentary series a few years ago where people were marrying at Gretna. It all looked quite fun!

When's your French break, and where are you going?

french break is 5th of july i think, flying into lyon and hiring a car ... hubby is doing the
L'Étape du Tour French Cycling Holidays - - L'Etape du Tour starting in Albertville .... not found accomadation yet so will need to find somewhere near there. we are planning on sight seeing in monaco, monte carlo, nice & cannes

aaah you're off to the posh bit! haaaa!

We ran away top get married - saved a lot of hassle - we said we wanted no one there. Then we found out that my MIL was looking at flights to come out!! Can you imagine the grief I would have got had MIL turned up, when my Mum found out!

Wow mouse - I didn't know that... I was thinking my do was going to be small, and wondering when I could decently tell relatives (other than my Dad and sister) as an aside, rather than an invitation! Good for you!

I haven't even told some close friends here yet because, same issue, I can't lodge them, it's a long way to go just for the 10 minute service and hour long aperitif afterwards, and it's going to be a small English speaking group at the meal afterwards cos I'm darned if I'm going to be translating on my wedding day (and cost of course)!

Having had a quiet week at work (sshhh don't tell anyone), I've been getting quite organised!

Weekend in the country as usual. OH has sausages to make for friends so I have to turn into kitchen boy to help. I adore his sausages but they're not Dukan friendly, so... Will be walking as usual too. Maybe seeing friends in neighbouring village (those who were flooded not long ago) - they arrived for a week at their secondary home last weekend to find frozen pipes and a cracked ruined loo! We were lucky!

So I continue Dukan until Wednesday night's engagement dinner... then, knowing me, Thursday will pick it up again. Not ideal, but...

Yes agreed a tricky one. We invited closest family (parents, grandparents(1) and siblings, and that was only 11 adults and 2 kids. Restaurant meal just for them after the ceremony (walked to the restaurant) and then taxis home to Champagne and Cake 'reception' for our friends (at home, home made cake and nice sparkling wine 'imported' by my parents). I think it might have been about 40 in total. So yes, far away friends had to lodge themselves, but some of them came - we had no-one coming or invited from beyond the UK, except my family. One longer distance friend came to the ceremony and then re-joined us a few hours later. It depends on what people expect of course. I handed out lists of B&Bs to people, which of course may not be so easy in a rural setting! I 'took over' most of a local B&B to lodge all our families together, but that's the only organising I did on that front.
DH has a huge extended Family up in Scotland - over the years we did get plenty of invites to Cousins' Weddings' Evenings 'do's' but never attended. So we didn't really bother inviting them ;-) and I don't really think anyone batted an eyelid at us doing it this way. But the people we did invite mostly came, made their own arrangements ... And to my surprise some uninvited distance relations did send presents too.

All I can say, really, is, do what's right for YOU. Easier said than done, I do appreciate that...

We are having a morning wedding, followed by an hour and a half I reckon drinks + nibble at the village hall next door ("vin d'honneur"), so we'll be about 50 to that, then the "select few" will peel off to head to the posh lunch...

Your champagne + cake idea afterwards is a good one though...

My weekend went much as planned... I managed a walk each day (even if the sun went in 5 mins after I headed out with my sunglasses on yesterday!)...

after running away we are hoping to put a marquee up here and have a nice big celebration party. my friend did this at her farm and had a rodeo bull & bouncy castle for all the adults ... it was great fun.

We didn't tell ANYONE till after the event - the only people at our wedding were two friends as witnesses, the children and ourselves. My husband is a very quiet man who hates being the centre of attention and this was the way that worked. Weddings should be what makes the couple happy, never mind any body else - yours sounds lovely Jo.

Ooh lots of great ideas for my wedding here :) I too hate being the centre of attention - dislike the idea of inviting a load of relatives who I don't really know and worse don't really get on with :D......now just got to find a willing guinea pig :D xx

(glad you had a good weekend Jo :) and managed to get your walks in X)

your wedding plans sound fab Jo.
My wedding day was no fuss & simple done on a budget but we still had a brilliant memorable day with a few very special people.

awh thanks ladies for sharing. It's true that I'm quite happy with small, and the mere thought of being the centre of attention fills me with dread too!!

So tomorrow evening I will have my ring... at the moment OH is enjoying himself "ordering me around" suggesting the ring might not come otherwise ;)
x

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! :D

Small weddings are the best! 2 weeks before mine I was at my cousins big one. All the relatives and friends. They had so much work to do!
Mine was only ever going to be 30ish people, and when we had to push it forward (due to James's transfer here to Seattle) that number shrank to 12!
We had the best day :) Got married in a registry office in N. Ireland and then spent the rest of the day in a 17th century coach house hotel, Hunters Hotel, in Co. Wicklow.

We had originally planned to marry in Villa Cimbrone, Ravello on the Amalfi Coast in Italy but our day was so perfect that I'm glad that plan had to be scrapped :D
