Hi EmVeg
Not really had any CBT stuff in the group. I have looked at the books though but don't see an aweful lot of relevence in then to be honest. I overeat (or did) because that's what I do. I don't think there's any particular emotion attached, more simple greed/gluttony.
Like many of the men, alcohol has undoubtedly played a major role in weight gain, as most nights I'd have at least 2-3 drinks. Normally wine but that doesn't make it any less fattenning. Following a drink I would eat, simple problem.
In the "Eat Less" book, Gillian explaines it as 'addictive eating' which rings true for me, rather than emotional eating. Also I know quite a lot of the CBT techniques as I use some of them in my day to day job (amoungst other things I am a business coach), but never really called it CBT. As a result I don't really get much benefit from the CBT.
Initially I ws disappointed that we didn't have much coaching in the Men's sessions, but actually I now think I get more out of the opportunity to chat with the other guys, we do share experiences but have simple 'non-technique' solutions for each other. LLC acts more as a facilitator than a coach.
Long answer, but honest opinion
