Kim's diary of being a new mum

Haha from just the text messages I can tell it's going to be one of those evenings! He's feeling very sorry for himself *sigh*

Had my appointment was quite amuzing as I had a medical student who was very nervous do the initial checks. BP was ok (a little high for me but to be honest I think he guessed it more than actually heard it but I was nervous for him so that could account for the higher top number! ) I had glucose in my urine which isn't a great sign so going to try and cut down on sugar but have to have a gtt test at 28 weeks anyways as my sister is diabetic so she wasn't worried. She's increasing my thyroxine dose by quite a lot so hopefully might help me not feel so tired! Everything else was fine he had a feel of my tummy and listened to heartbeat which he found straight away! Was such a lovely sound :D

So all is ok back in a couple of weeks for my scan :D

Hope your appointment goes ok Jess mine was fine both student and consultant were lovely so relax and try to enjoy it :) xx
Glad all went OK hun.. Isn't the HB the most amazing sound?? I love it..
Was a student done my initial checks at the hospital the other night while waiting for the doctor and she was so excited and amazed at the whole being able to feel the baby n find the HB etc that it made me even more excited.. She was so lovely.. Doc was really nice too but the excitement of the student made me feel like the proper proud mammy..

Aww yeah students do get very excited I think poor guy was more nervous and relief than excitement but he was nice enough and everyone has to learn so I'm happy for them to practice on me! He did measure the size of my uterus in error (they don't measure until 26 weeks normally) which I found amusing as he had no idea what he was trying to measure lol! Bless him! It's lovely just knowing that baby is ok in there :) now I'm really excited for my scan!

Jess - Yes it's the best sound ever! Can see me asking my mum to use her doppler all the time now :)

Frances - has your doppler arrived yet? Bet you can't wait to use it!

The student I had (i overheard her talking) is repeating this year so was quite clued in...
Yes my doppler arrived yesterday but I only got this morning as I had it down to deliver to my job.. Can't wait to get home n use it :)
The doc gave out to me slightly for getting it as some women tend to rely on it to tell them everything is OK with baby and avoid getting medical attention.. When the HB doesn't always mean everything is OK.. For example if I'd been leaking amniotic fluid, the HB wouldn't be affected until much later so if I'd the doppler I may have put off going to get checked... And also you have the fact that baby could lay in an odd position where I may not find it and panick...

Ah this guy was on his first placement in antenatal.

Ooh exciting stuff! I think as long as you are sensible and if you ate concerned listen to hb but always get medical advice if something isn't right. At least you can reassure yourself that the baby is ok. I was so worried for the student that he wouldn't find the hb today as it's been pretty clear this baby has liked being buried in my pelvis, but maybe the cramping and pain yesterday was it moving up! Either way I was so relieved to hear that little heartbeat! :D

Yea exactly. I think I'm freaked enough to always go to doc but she was just warning.
Aww my baby found a hiding place too at our 13 week scan. Little sh1t! Was in perfect position but she had to change the scanner coz there was no printer so just as she was about to take off the thing n it mooned us n went into hiding. So our pix weren't great

Tell him to put vicks vapo rub on the soles of his feet going to bed tonight.. It'll help clear him up and he (and you) will get a better sleep..

And make sure you keep your Vit C topped up as much as possible to fight it.. The last thing you need is a whack of that.. Especially seen as you can't dose yourself up

Good idea re the vics - i'm going to force him to do it! I wouldn't normaly complain but from where i am it doesn't even seem like a really heavy cold he can still breathe! i guess i should be more supportive as he's been very good when i haven't felt well during the last 10 weeks.

Yes going to top myself up with oranges and orange juice! I really don't want it when you can't take anything apart from paracetamol and i am not keen on taking that if i can avoid it!

Yea I do too.. Only take it absolutely necassary.. At which point its no bloody good coz there's no strength in it at all IMO...
Pack garlic into all your food too.. Its a natural anti-biotic apparently.. :)
I always make BF carrot n corriander soup with loadsa pepper in when he feels a cold coming on.. Packed with Vit C.. It he catches it early enough it usually fights it off...

Yeah I've taken it once when I had the most awful headache and nothing else had worked but I only took one tablet rather than the normal two and it sort of helped ease the pain so I could sleep but definitely not strong enough to take it away completely. I will only use paracetamol if I get a temperature as I know that's not good for baby!

Ooh garlic have had garlic in both dinners this week!

Yum carrot and coriander soup sounds yum! I never make soups I really should try!

I love homemade soups.. I hate wasting cals/syns on shop bought ones now as the homemade are much more nutritious, lower cals and FRESH...
I've printed off recipes for Spiced Carrot and Lentil Soup, Asparagus Soup and Lentil and Spinach Soup... I searched for soups that are high in iron and these tickled my fancy :) So gona have them a bash over the next couple of weeks.. The aspargus is "healthy heart, iron rich, low calorie & low cholesterol" so may try that one first.. Tho they're each hi iron so either or.. Also wana make my first batch of tomato n basil soup.. Never realised (until today) tomatoes were high in iron...

Lol! Men are so rubbish when they are ill aren't they?! ;)

I hope you're well today honey :) xxxx

Re: Kim's pregnancy diary

17 +6 weeks

Hmmm last day of week 17 where did this week go?!?

I ended up not eating great this week but will try and be better next week. I have been really hungry following the cramps at the beginning of the week (growth spurt maybe? !)

I ended up going to an osteopath today as just after the wedding I was in agony with my back and he found that my hips were out of alignment by 2cm. Well this week I have been having problems with my back being painful and who guessed it my hips were 2cm out again. He readjusted me by working on the top of my back and said he doesn't go near to baby territory with pregnant women. Already feeling so much easier! He said he thinks all women who are pregnant should have an osteopath appointment at some point just to make sure everything is still aligned and he said I may want to go back cost to delivery just to make sure I'm aligned for the delivery. He thought the cause was because of sitting at a desk and working on a computer all day is gradually pulling my hips out.

Apart from that Mike is still dying of Man flu on the sofa so a nice lazy weekend ahead of us! :)

Re: Kim's pregnancy diary

18 weeks
Well hello 18 weeks! :) another week closer to the scan :) cannot wait for 3 October to come I really want to see baby again and hopefully see a little more...
Not just the back of its head!

Well today I went round to my sisters as she got all her maternity clothes out of the loft so I have a wide range of clothes that will work for me now and further along. Saves me spending loads! My sister was pregnant this time last year. Also got to see my niece and she's such a character now :)

The good news is that Mike is slowly on the mend so hopefully another chilled day tomorrow will mean that he's back to work on Monday.

Really fighting the urge to buy some things for baby but have told myself I have to wait until after the scan! Just 2 more weeks to go! I can hold off that long!

18 +1 weeks

Well today has been a sleepy day...i think i am going to spend half this pregnancy asleep or wishing i could be asleep! the tiredness just hasn't lifted at all. I slept in late (although was awake from 2.30 - 4ish for no apparent reason) and then i was watching Happy Feet snuggled on the sofa with Mike and missed half of it because i was asleep! I have heard of eating for 2 but seriously i seem to be sleeping for two!

Got on the scales today and i was up by 4lbs!!! Not convinced that can be what i've eaten so REALLY hoping it's bloat/fluid or something else that will go and that gain will disappear again...or at least most of it!

Apart from that I'm looking forward to a very nice SW friendly roast dinner - chicken (no skin for me), SW roast potatoes, parsnips and some veggies with gravy. I did go food shopping after the above gain on the scales and as a result a rhubarb crumble and ice cream MAY have jumped in to the trolley  but knowing us we wont eat it after our roast dinner as we are always so full! So god knows what i was thinking....i guess it may be eaten this week after my gain of 4lbs has gone back down to a manageable figure!

I've got a week off work in October and i am seriously on holiday countdown! I really need a break from work i feel exhausted just thinking about going in tomorrow..let alone actually going in! haha. Please tell me i'm not the only one suffering still with extreme tiredness?!

No ur defo not. Hasn't lifted at all for me either. I too had a little afternoon nap today but I was awake with cramps n pains from 7am n got up then as I wanted j to hav a decent kip n didn't wana wake him. How nice I am!!!

Hasn't gone away for me either and I'm 25 weeks tomorrow. I wake up during the night nearly every night for no reason and then I'm usually fully awake by 7am at the latest. But then I'm shattered.

Yep, same. Im really tired all the time. Some days are worse than others. I do tend to get up a fair bit in the night and also toss and turn trying to get comfy which doesnt help

Oh bless you hun... Me too! :( haven't had a half-decent sleep since 2 days before I found out I was pregnant xx
