Kirsty's pregnancy and new Mummy diary- from 30 weeks onwards!

On a happier note, exactly one year ago today we got to see our little monkey for the very first time :D
An early scan at 10wks due to me being in hospital for severe morning sickness...
And now he's here, almost 5 months old and my whole world :)

I haven't stopped crying either, it's really getting to me... And it's not helping that I found out (also yesterday) that my great uncle has been diagnosed with prostrate cancer :( Thankfully they've caught it early so it's treatable but he's being an idiot and refusing treatment... It's made me so riled... I've lost my grandad to lung cancer, my auntie to skin cancer (at just 47) and another auntie has survived breast cancer.. I'm feeling very down today :( xx

Oh honey I'm so sorry. Life can be cruel at times.
Will your great uncle listen to anyone? They need to persuade him to have treatment. It's great they've noticed it early but guessing it's now he needs treatment before it develops. Cancer is awful. Really vile disease.
Have you got any family or friends you could meet up with today to take your mind of it a bit? Thinking of you x

My nan (his sister) has given him a stern talking to and told him he has to have the treatment... He's in his 70's and just doesn't want to spend every day in hospital, which is understandable, but if it cures it (which his docs have said its about 90% chance of curing as they've caught it so early) then he needs to stop being stubborn, sallow his pride and just do it!

Supposed to be going swimming with my boy today but he's still asleep!
He went to bed later than normal last night, going down at 9 and although he woke at 5 for a nappy change, he's been sound asleep ever since!
He didn't nap a lot yesterday so guessing he's very tired!
Think my MIL is popping over later...
The weather is all miserable too today...
Thanks for the hugs xx

Ok so food!

Ate a lot of rubbish yesterday but am 1.5lbs down on my scales??!
Had a bit of a tummy ache yesterday, think it's my iron tablets- they make me constipated for a few days then it goes the other way lol!
Tummy is still a bit icky today so will keep an eye on it to make sure it's not a bug cos that'll mean Oliver getting it too, no doubt.

So I've decided I'm gonna give this 5:2/calorie counting a try, starting today with a goal of 1400 calories... Having already worked out my meals come to just over 700 cals with maybe an extra 100 for coffees, etc, I've got plenty left for the necessary chocolate fix later on!

So here's today's plan:

Calorie goal: 1400

Breakfast:
1x 27g sachet Quaker multigrain oats (95), made with 140ml skimmed milk (47) and 5g (1tsp) of Nutella (26)

Total: 168

1x coffee (12)

Lunch:
4x Ryvita sweet onion (172) topped with 60g Philadelphia light (94)

Total: 266

1x 300ml glass Sprite zero (3)
1x Walkers pops melted cheese and bacon (84)

1x coffee (12)
1x Freddo (95)

Dinner:
Homemade cottage pie (199) served with 6 sprouts (21), 1/2 a leek (21) and 1 carrot (27)

Total: 268

2x 300ml glass Sprite zero (6)

Total for the day (so far, will update as needed): 914

That's so sad :-( sending hugs to you xx

Oliver has been really grumpy and clingy today but he soon changed when it was bath time and he just loves his duck :)

So have managed to end the day well under my goal of 1400 cals- finished on 914!!
Feel totally satisfied as well... Think I'll continue with this for the weekend and check the scales on Monday to see if there's been any progress...

Amazing how a bath can change a baby- Oliver was really cranky and at 6pm, I took him upstairs and handed him to Paul, who was doing the bedtime routine (Oliver's request lol!) and Paul wanted to just feed and change him and straight to bed, but Oliver really needed a bath and it was like a different baby!!
He was in the bath for 20 mins and you would never have known this was the same baby who was getting all cranky half hour before :)
He's a real water baby :)
Once bathed and into sleep suit, Paul fed him, I happened to go upstairs just as Paul was burping him and I walked into his room to see Oliver on Paul's shoulder- as soon as Oliver spotted me and heard my voice, he broke out into a massive smile :)
Melted my heart, and I completely forgot what a little sod he had been today!!
Anyway he was asleep by 7:30 and that'll be him down for the night until 5 at least :)
Night all xx

I'm pleased to report that after 3 days of calorie counting, my scales are reporting a 4lbs loss :D

Really needed to see those numbers to keep me motivated :)

Wow that's fab although you've done well to stick to such low calories. Your lunches have been looking lot smaller than I could survive on x

Thanks :)
I must admit I was thinking of eating more at lunchtime but the Ryvita are surprisingly filling and with Oliver being so active these days, I don't have much time to eat lol!!
I've just been keeping myself busy too! X

I know what you mean. I seem to always find time which is where my food problem is ha ha. You're totally right that keeping busy is the key. Well done x

So I've decided that a low cal diet is the way forward for me, rather than 5:2... I've been trying to work out how I would manage on just 500 cals 2 days a week and I don't think I could do it... A bit too restrictive for me I think... I know low cals diets are more of a short term fix but I just want to lose a bit more before my birthday, then I will most likely have a big gain as I shall be eating cake and having lots of birthday meals out that week and maybe after that, I'll go back to SW... I think I just need a kick in the 'losing' direction and I'll be fine...
I'm sure after Xmas too, like most of us, I'll be wanting to get back to SW... Xmas usually has that effect on me!!

Been waiting in all morning for 2 deliveries and now both have arrived, I shall have lunch, give Oliver his and then pop out to Tesco and the bank.

Today's food:

Calorie goal: 1400

Breakfast:

porridge with Nutella- 168
coffee x1- 12

Lunch:

Ryvita with Philadelphia light- 266
Sprite zero- 3
Freddo- 95

Dinner:

chicken stir fry (chicken, babycorn, spring onions, leek, carrot, peppers, beansprouts, sweet n sour sauce) - 395
Tilda egg fried rice- 287

1/2 bottle white wine- 248

Total: 1474

I'm new to this part of the forum and thought I'd swing by some of the diaries. How are you finding motherhood? I think low cal rather than 5:2 will probably be easier for you, I can't imagine having 2 very low calorie days with a little one to run after.

Are you doing very low every day Kirsty? Have you been on the fasting site that tells you your low and high kcals? Good weight loss but it's virtually a vlcd ( Cambridge is 800 kcals a day) so I would take multi vitamin and make sure you are eating plenty of iron rich foods as well x
