Lil miss chatterbox's food diary

Thanks. For once am grateful kids break up for 1/2 term on Thursday! Hopefully will get back on track soon.

Right, I'm back and ready to get back on track, but not first before telling the story of my hurrendous weekend!

So, just over 2 weeks ago my mother-in-law thought it would be a nice treat for us to all go on a steam railtour as an anniversary present (our anniversary's not till November, but still...) so it was all booked and paid for and just over Β£200 for me, my hubby, my mother-in-law, and both our kids. Originally the timings said it would leave Newcastle at 9am, and arrive back around 7pm. Well, so far so good. So we would have to be up at 6am, but no real hardship. Then last Tuesday the tickets arrived, and the leaving time on them said 7.24am! As we were planning to drive down, and do park and ride, the first question to answer was were metro trains even running at that time of morning? Well, yes they were, but there were engineering works on our route meaning we had to get a metro at 5.58am to have a hope of getting in ontime, so leaving home at 4am! We decided to look at trains from Berwick to Newcastle instead because of the enginnering works, only to find that the first one to Newcastle got in too late, and on the return journey if we were delayed and missed our train home we would have to wait 3 hours for a replacement bus service. (you've guessed it - more engineering works!) we decided that wasn't an option. Next we looked at hotels. We couldn't get one for Friday night, so still had to get up really early on Saturday, but got one booked for Saturday night.

So, we thought all was sorted. Then on Wednesday, my mother-in-laws car seemed to be leaking coolant. Thankfully that didn't take too long to sort out. On Thursday my mother-in-law came down with a bad sickness and diarrhoea bug. Then on Friday my hubby's car broke down! (and still needs fixed). My mother-in-law felt better Friday evening. By this point I'm more than convinced we are not supposed to go away this weekend! But Β£300 spent between railtour and hotel we're not giving up without a fight!

So then Saturday. Suprisingly even with the engineering works all journeys to and from railtour went smoothly! But as for the railtour itself...well after about 2 hours my hubby got something in his eye, which he couldn't get out, and spent most of day with his eye closed so he was disappointed. Then half way through the railtour the train broke down! So we ended up sitting up for about 2 hours in the middle of nowhere for a loco to rescue us. Despite this, the kids said they had a good time. After the railtour we headed to the hotel, and everyone was settled by about 10pm. Then at 11.40pm my son woke with sickness and diarrhoea! Got him sorted and room cleaned, and new bedding, and got back to bed at half past midnight. Then at 1.40am my daughter was sick. By this point we're thinking of giving up! But just cleaned up everything again, and got back to bed at 2am. At 3am both kids were sick again, and we decided enough is enough! We're going home! Got back home just after 5am, and hubby was majorly sick! Talk about just making it back ontime. I, on the other hand, got away very lightly with a slight dodgy tummy and nausea! Just suffered total exhaustion from lack of sleep! Needless to say kids are off school today and tomorrow after that.

So everyone's feeling a bit better today, and I'm ready to roll at this healthy eating malarky!

Well a better day today. Kids are back to school! :woohoo: but the car's still broken, and appears to be allergic to rain! Hubby had it nearly fixed yesterday, until he went through an unavoidable (shallow) puddle. Not quite sure what's exactly wrong, or how to fix it, but fear it may end up at a garage :( On the bright side I'm doing ok generally, although starting to feel the cold now! Still determined not to succumb to putting heating on yet though, as I don't like to put it on til November where possible (with exception of snow of course!) Right, need to catch up on study!

lol. i've started stealing hubbys jumpers and fleeces to keep warm for now. i keep hoping he'll buy me some of my own!

Looks like a good day for a change! Maybe car can be fixed tonight? Will wait & see. Realised yesterday I'm 8 days behind with study as a result of half term and illness, so am going to have to work super hard over next few days to catch up. Also not convinced my stats are right on here as i haven't updated them in about 4 weeks! Will see what scales say tomorrow, then update.

Well since last WI 4 weeks(ish) ago i gained 3lbs! :( d'oh! Back to the drawing board!

Yes kids are back to school, but coughing like mad (who isn't?). car still not fixed, but :fingerscrossed: for a dry day tomorrow and we'll see. Hubby got docs tonight as he's had a bad chesty cold for 3 weeks, which developed a chest infection, and just finished a course of anti-biotics, and if anything is worse now. I certainly couldn't cope with another night of his coughing fits at all hours. so tired today!

well car has gone to garage. don't know how long it will take, or how much it will cost, but :fngerscrossed: it won't be too much. Hubby has had a blood test at doctors on Friday, as doctor suspects he has whooping cough! Unfortunately there's no treatment for it, but he's got different antibiotics to make sure he's not contagious. Kids just have bad cough, as do I. Kids had their immunisations, so am confident they're ok, and I'm certainly not up all night in coughing fits like my hubby. Got a fair chunk of study done over weekend, but still got much more catching up to do. Didn't do too badly food wise over weekend, but still didn't find time for exercise.

OMG whooping cough, mind you I heard on the news I think about a vast increase in cases. If I remember rightly they used to vaccinate against it then stopped for a while and are now back doing it. Guess hubby is in the batch that missed the vac.

Well done on the food and studying. Well impressed and as far as exercise I would think running about after ill peeps kept you on your toes. :D

Hope you all get better soon. :D

i believe hubby was immunised when a baby, but apparently the vaccine can wear off over time. And as he has a lowered immune system he's subseptible to catching everything! There is apparently an epidemic going about just now. My cousin had it when he was 7 or 8, but if i remember rightly he hadn't had the vaccine for one reason or another.

Well yesterday went quite well. Had a meeting with the school about Kyle & his behaviour. Finally feel like I'm getting somewhere, although I also have the feeling it's still going to be a long process yet...

Hubby had a bad night with coughing, and my cough seems to have got worse too :( Sadly seem to have failed at being good with food again. Hubby has wanted pancakes last couple of nights (with fruit, ice cream & custard) and has found himself not able to eat very much, so I've ending up finishing things off for him, cos I hate waste. Unfortunately I have a feeling it will go straight to my waist! :sigh: Need more discipline, and some serious ass kicking!

Car's fixed :woohoo: now just have to find out how much bill is. Coughs seem worse all round today :( I'm just fed up with us all being not well. Hubby's off to craft fair today at Glasgow, to look for jewellery making items. :) whilst i just get to stay home, clean the house, study, cough etc.
