maintenance with 5:2

Hi Carrie. Glad ur back on top.

What weight are you now? Hiw often ate you weighing? What's fast n furious? What's the thigh and AB challenge? I'm going yo do the squat challenge that you posted a while back :)

Sorry for barrage of questions! Have a nice day :) x

I really think your maintenance plan is great. It's encouraging to see this approach works for you, and alongside exercise. I hope to do a similar plan once I lose my recent gains using exante. Great work x

I think I'm around 9.5 - 9.7 just now. I'm still in my size 8s though and know I was 9.6 when I got my super skinnys lol, it's just they're not as comfortable as they were. In saying that ill put them on today as I feel slimmer. Ill weigh on Thursday to see where I'm at, if I'm where I wanna be I won't have the Friday fast ( resume back to 5:2 ) I really only weigh now and again when I feel like it, but I am wanting to go back to weekly weighing as after a few weeks with no exercise and over on cal days I feel I need to see what's going on again.

Fast n furious is a shortened insanity DVD, available from Argos. It's one of his cardio circuit workouts but lasts only 22 mins, so perfect before work, not to time consuming. The thigh n ab challenge are just other 30 day challenges. :) I've done the squat challenge 3 times now and the thigh challenge once so am now trying the ab one. Ill post them below.

Don't worry about asking loads of questions lol, you have a great day too xxx

Thanks so much, I find it a part of life now. It was really difficult to break out of a yo yo cycle but I now realise I'm in control. To only "diet" twice a week is perfect for me, lol. I wish you every success xxx

Thats where I am struggling to break out of.... the yoyoing with this stone. :(
I know we all have our sticking points, and I really really want to get over mine :), like we all do.
So, whats the secret ?:p

I've only returned to fasting 3 days per week to get the gain off I had whilst I couldn't exercise and the pain killers made me so hungry I felt I was eating constantly. My cals are around 500 on a fast day and 1725 on a non fast day to lose weight. Still a lot more than when I was doing exante ;p I can assure you I'm not eating too little and I really do make the most out of my cals. I've only reverted back to 4:3 to get the gain off. I normally 5:2 or 6:1 to maintain. Tfr got me in a binge cycle that I had to get out of for me to maintain. I'm not saying my way is right, but it's the only thing that's helped me maintain, still allowing the odd treat, wine, chocolate all completely guilt free. The weight loss side is difficult to explain as its a "fasting" diet but 500kcals 3 days per week is nothing compared to exante on 600kcals daily. I know your only showing your concern, this diary only really shows the fasting side. There's too much personal stuff in my other diary to bring it out of silver section but that's more maintenance. I'm only planning to 4:3 for a few weeks before I return to my 5:2 or 6:1 way of eating. :) xxx

Sorry Carrie I hope I didn't offend you - I think you're doing great! I guess because I've never successfully maintained I thought you'd be able to eat 2000 cals a day and exercise and not put any weight on :( guess I need a reality check huh? I did dukan once and lost 2 stone on that and ate loads! But it was alternate days of protein and no fat dairy and the protein no fat dairy and vegetables the other day. It was pretty healthy and I was eating lots of good stuff. Never got round to the maintenance part of the plan though as I went on honeymoon and just went back to eating what I wanted and not really exercising much. Need to get my head into the fact that I have to change my ways forever but that is so scary :( anyway, I think you're doing great, I was just worried you weren't getting enough healthy food inside you as ww soups and rice cakes don't have much nutrients and especially when you mentioned liver function tests as a low cal diet and ketosis can damage your liver I read. But who am I to judge? I'm a newbie on here and I need to be making friends and getting support not annoying people! Sorry!

I got the impression you thought my 500kcal days were a daily occurrence and that couldn't be further from the truth, I'm most definitely not in ketosis and haven't been since September. I know you were being helpful but all my tests came back perfect, this 3 day fasting week has been the first 3 day fast for months. I usually only have one or two. I just don't wanna post high calorie foods on this thread as anyone reading for inspiration on a fast day may struggle. It's taken months to find my balance and I was offended. We're all different heights, bmis and body types and shapes the 2000kcal maintenance calories is only a guide and I do think that's why so many people struggle. Mine is 1969 with insanity but as I'm not as intense it's dropped to 1725 and that's the secret I suppose, if we're less active we eat less and the more active we are we increase them. I've added the fasts to lose weight for a few weeks lol. I'd still sat I'm maintaining. Thanks for stopping by though. I don't want you to think I don't appreciate advice lol xxx

I'm sorry you were offended. I need to think before I open my mouth and put my foot in it. ?

Honestly if there's one thing this site has taught me is there's no one way. Everybody has to find what's manageable and achievable for them. We're all here for support and advice :) xxx

I've been trying to find a good book on maintaining your weight and so far the advice I've found from NHS seems the most reasonable - up your calories slowly, and wait for your weight to stabilise. If it's still going down after a few weeks eat more, if it's going up, eat a bit less and then wait a few more weeks. Sounds like a very slow and hard process but I am determined. Planning to do SW to maintain as their diet is really healthy and you eat carbs veggies fruit and protein - you can stay on it when you're pregnant too to make sure you don't put too much on. Just how I make the transition from exante to SW I haven't decided yet. I see from the exante website they have a maintenance plan which I intend to follow - but not sure how many weeks to stay at each stage?

It's difficult to find what'll work for each person and it really is trial and error, picking yourself up, dusting yourself off till you find what's right for you, and most importantly trying to not be disheartened if the first plan doesn't work. Just plan and try something else. Xxx

1993 kcals today, loads of wee Easter treats around but according to myfitnesspal fitbit adjustment I have burned 879kcals so net is 1114. The only think I remembered to take a photo of today was my tea, chicken salad, with green peppers red onion light mozzarella salsa and leafy salad. Came in at 315kcals. been out with wee one most of the day on his bike and up early for his rugby tomorrow... in bed.... Done fast n furious too and hula rest day on thighs n abs xxx

Just love your thread Carrie! It is great to read how you have maintained over these past few months and for those starting a new diet or re-starting for the first or zillionth time and yo yoing (like me recently) it's encouraging to read and see the pics too. As you say we are all different shapes sizes and I'm sure our weight is distributed very differently and we have to find what works by trial and error and of course I'm still working on it!

Yoyo I'm sure you will find what works for you and you'll do just fine.

Was up early for rugby so done day 5 thighs and abs, fast n furious DVD before we left the house. Didn't have time for breakfast but did have my black coffee! When we got back I made the boys and hubby sausage sandwiches and I had my branflakes, fruit n nut mix x 25g and a lemon low fat greek yoghurt, followed by 100g pineapple fingers. And of course, the obligatory black coffee ;) was still peckish so had the rest of the pack of fruit n nut mix ( 29g ) and just had a pack of sweet n salt topcorn. I'm hula hooping now :) on 511kcals just now and breakfast was 310kcals including the pineapple but don't have a pic of that lol! Xxx

So today I've finished on 1394kcals. Have had a few treat size snacks... :/ but tea was a failed attempt at a pin wheel ( a tasty one though ) with rocket, mozzarella ( light ) and salsa 341kcals xxx

Does hula hooping tone you up? I'm forever on the hunt for some sort of exercise that appeals. I'm losing weight but I'm all squidgy and want to try and avoid saggy skin so should make the effort. Now that I'm not so tubby round the middle I could probably fit a hoop around me!! Do you need to get a special type? x

It's a 1.3kg weighted hula hoop, I got it from home bargains at £7.99. I don't really know if its doing much for toning but my core strength is so much better and I feel my shape comes in at the waist? It's enjoyable though :) xxx
