Moonlights' (temporary) Maintenance

My ratios for the day, just because I'm proud when they look like this ;) could do with stealing 5% fat from the protein section but not bad.

Hello again

I had loads of health issues from 2006 that seemed to go on and on (multiple hernias resulting in two major operations, ovarian cancer scare) and think I definitely scared people away from my diary too!

Don't worry - it won't scare me off! I'm just sorry you're suffering so much.

Your percentages look great today :). Did you use the MFP app? If so, can you set the settings for low carb?

Enjoy the rest of the evening x

We definitely have a few things in common then, Shrinki.

Yes I use (and adore) MFP - I think it's a large part of my success on this diet before. Last time I tried Atkins I was just going by what's allowed in the book, no weighing or measuring. Now I weigh everything I realize how off some of my old 'guesstimates' must have been - plus when you're faced with writing down everything you eat you feel more in control and more responsible for what you put in your mouth. I do, anyway. It's indispensable.

You can change the settings to Atkins friendly ones via that website, I think.

Good evening, have loved reading your diary- sorry you've not been well recently.

I'm new to Atkins, started at lunchtime today after being fed up with vlcd!! Hoping its successful for me and hubbie :)
Have taken lots of tips and advice from the forum, book goes everywhere with me and using MFP so surely can't go too far wrong lol

Look forward to following your progress and prob asking many questions as this is complete change for me.

Hi Lou - quite a few people switch on to Atkins from vlcd - some people alternate between both plans but if you can stick strictly to induction rules you should have good losses - I lost 9lbs last month. You're right that it might be a little slow as you switch over and your body figures out what to do with more food/less carbs but it will work itself out.

Have a peek at the Atkins questions thread on the main page - I tried to get through some common questions there.

Morning xx

Must not procrastinate too much today!

Am addicted to watching Madhur Jaffreys curry nation lately on the food channel. I don't even like most Indian food but she is so funny and the sassiest 81 year old ever. She looks amazing too!

Morning

I had another look at the MFP app and can see the carb/protein/fat chart etc. now.

I am going to start logging too. It doesn't take very long and avoids making costly (weight wise) mistakes.

Morning ML

Not had a chance to get through diaries over the past week, so sorry to hear your health has been rough again, but I have all my bits crossed for you that a few good sleeps will help xxx

Been feeling better for a few days now Susie so fingers crossed its done for now, thank you :) And I'm EATING again phew.

Posted this in reply to someone on the main forum and added it to the Atkins questions thread as I think people get very mixed up between ratios/grams. Can you guys tell me if it's clear enough?

If you're using the mfp app, here is an example of how I do it.

First I put in all the food I'm planning to eat today.

image-2148154456.jpg

Then I check how many grams of carbs there are in what I'm eating. If I'm doing induction, I want to be under 20g.

Then I check out the ratios. If I'm under 20g carbs but my fat is too low, I might add a bit of cheese or some butter in my cooking to bump that figure up. But the ratios are less important than just keeping under 20g carbs.

Yep the target percentages are in an earlier question. I do think the ratio part confuses people when carb grams are the most important thing...

Hi ML glad to hear your feeling better. Wow on the 9lbs for the month!

Your right about MFP makes you think twice when you see it in black and white.

I don't drink coffee, I suppose it would depend on the brand?

(from a quick scan of mfp the brands that my patents drink claim not to contain any carbs)
