HD, you should check out Spotify, there's a good Prince collection there. I'm not an expert tho by any means so I dont know if you'll find your rarities. :)

Likin the Lifehouse one HD, though a bit Dawson's Creek for me to listen to too often ;) ;)-and...sigh...Rod Stewart singing that song is just ridiculously beautiful. So rarely do covers impress so.

'Time to Say Goodbye' -what a beautiful song. Much better than Starship Troopers lol

Had a look at your shooms link there too -you do love your vinyl dont you? You're like that 'Hi-Fidelity' dude, ;). I have a wee mini vinyl collection myself. I bet it could rival yours - I have 8 -count them 8! records. lol, Considering I've no record player I think that's quite extensive. hehe. I just like to pick up the ones I see in 2nd hand shops that I know were made for vinyl (Bat out of Hell, Rumours...the like -my own wee tacky taste in music :D)and remember from the days of having a turntable how class it sounds. More atmospheric somehow.

Man I'd love to play the Banjo!!

Hahaha - I get what you say about Lifehouse... I do love the strings in it though.. I'm a right sucker for strings...

Totally agree on ole Rod.. I grow up with Cat Stevens always being played but Rod's cover is more emotionally raw in my opinion :)

Time to say goodbye is one of THE most powerful tunes I've ever heard... I absolutely love it when you're blown away by the power & emotion of music...

Heh - you're right about the High Fidelity guy  I've got a wide & varied collection but the one thing it's all got in common is that moves me... & it's weird how 'black' music resonates so much with me from Gospel & Sprituals to Delta / Electric Blues, Jazz, Soul, Rhythm & Blues (original styleeee), Funk, Ska, Reggae, Disco, original Hiphop, Electro & House music... I'm sure I was a brother in another life.... & it's amazing how ***** 'black' music is now. It's lost the funk :(

PS banjos you say ? This is ace :D

Oh yes! A bit of Cat always goes down well and I LOVE that song -definitely one to live by!

There was a documentary done a while back about how black gospel and slave songs are linked to folk music ( I think from Scotland and Ireland). In fact in Maya Angelou's autobiography, she speaks of it too. When she toured with a company doing 'Porgy and Bess' she happened to be on a flight with the Clancey brothers and finding herself relating to the folk music, saying she realised that the folk and gospel culture were both coming from the same place, oppression and the will to triumph over that oppression -whatever form that oppression takes. And both find music a 'natural' outlet. I found it really interesting because I've grown up surrounded by rebel music and find the passions similar.

A bit of rambling from old Rose there! :D :D
