My Maintenance Diary + food pics

Hello Andrea

I have been lurking here and reading this thread for a while now so thought I would drop by and say hello. I got a bik a few months ago and I worry that I am not using it enough so I am massively impressed with your efforts on yours - shame it has broken but to be honest for 47 miles you are going to need something a bit special. I would love to cycle to and from work every day (it is less than 4 miles) but I am not fit enough and when I got there I would be in a right state!

That god she's not in my bliddy house. That'd get me out of here even quicker I think!

I think the fee is an admin thing. Makes me  too as they describe it as a "small fee" on the website and I don't think it's small at all. They do claim all of the gift aid on behalf of the charity though. I looked into all the different ways of donating and you can do it straight to the hospice's website but then they have to claim the gift aid which costs a fee or paypal charge a fee or something so it's all relative in the end. I will put the 5% back in myself on your behalf.

The rear wheel gear has gone. The chain is turning but it's not moving the wheel and when I took a closer look the ball bearings in the rear axle of the bike had started to fall out. :sigh: It's probably what contributed to the chain keep falling off. It's going back tomorrow (have become quite attached) but I should be getting a full refund so, now that I'm really into it, am going to get something brand new that's a bit better as I think it'll be money well spent. Am also going to go on a course to learn about bike care so I have a bit more of a clue if anything happens in-future.

You did not let anyone down!! There's no way I'm going to get close to a 5lb loss either this week, it was a pipe-dream but worth a try anyway. I think you've done really well to STS when you've had an off-week. I was where you are last week and yes, I felt disappointed, but I took that disappointed feeling and thought "I don't want to feel like this next week" and it has motivated me. Just a shame other factors have got in the way instead, but that's life, 5hit happens. Look at your overall achievement, you've done so well. Go take a look at that first page from the Team Tinsel thread. How many people have lost more than what you have? (I can count them on one finger). Also do you see the pattern in your STS's? Might be something, might be nothing... Have you done your measurements again this week? Hope you're ok and not too disappointed.
:bighug:

Awww thanks honey, what a lovely post, all about ME on YOUR thread ;) I am very predictable I did notice that last week. This week I sorta had a panic with regards to calories but I was also thinking am going to do some research on this so called 'starvation mode' as I don't think it's true. If what 'they' say is to be believed then that means that no-one has ever died of starvation as your body slows down to preserve itself. Now we know that people die all the time of starvation and just look at the poor loves in the concentration camps! Going to do some research on it and hopefully get my head out of my ass at the same time. Not done my measurements, I am focusing far too much on calories and it's doing my bl00dy head in! I need to pick a method and stick to it! ;( How has your week been? Hope you get your bike sorted soon! I hope they don't mess you about when you take it back. If you can afford it a bike shop would be best as they set it all up for you and at least you can take it back in if you have any issues and they can tinker with it. A course sounds great! About the sponsorship I will donate at the end of the month again, are you collecting cash and then hand delivering it? I could send you a cheque if that's better then you could cash it and then give them cash. B@stards won't steal from a charity then will they?! They won't get the better of me.....MMMwwaahahahhhaa ;) Seriously, what is this about Esther?!! I have no clue. (what's new?!!) Try looking for Flirting with Veganism on FB. Don't think it's a secret group. xox :bighug:

:welcome2: Claire :D Thanks so much for stopping by.
I think I've been really lucky with the bike that the both the weather's been good (or when it's not it hasn't put me off, (well, except for today that is, absolutely hoying it down and I'd planned on cycling to work)) and there are some lovely route's near me. Oh and also having to do 47 miles in a month's time (eek it is exactly a month today too) is some motivation. I was really really unfit when I started SW. The only exercise I did was a tap dancing class once a week and I wouldn't be able to get off the floor and would end up all red and sweaty and out of breath whilst everyone else was calm and serene. I started walking in my first few weeks just to get out and get a bit fitter and also had a DVD to do at home where it didn't matter if I got red in the face. Then came the bike. First time I went on it I couldn't believe how much hard work it was. I managed about 30 mins and was knackered when I got back. Couldn't manage even the slightest incline. I just built up duration slightly each week and when I found I was going on more difficult routes I managed cos I'd got fitter without really realising. I think it's like any new exercise. If you can get through the first few times that are a bit unbearable and painful it gets better after that, you feel the benefits and really start to enjoy it (honest). In-terms of being in a state when you get to work I refer back to my post #115 with the guy who laughs when I arrive all red and sweaty. I just take a small wash bag, towel and change of clothes and use the disabled loo to get changed when I get here. Obviously carrying the stuff is a bit of an ar$e but once you lose a bit weight it displaces that.

Are you talking about the starvation with a view to the fact that you were forcing the calories when you were doing your raw diet? I know you said you felt full but needed extra calories. I'm going to take a look a t those links you put on the team thread and pop over to your diary later as I'm sure you'll have answered all that on there. I've not been on fb yet but will look for that group when I'm next on there, it's on my to do list. Have you not seen Esther popping up around here? I'll give you a clue, you're most likely to see her either at the top, or more recently, the bottom of a thread page. Gives me the heebie-jeebies!!
I did get a new bike :D from a proper bike shop :D Got a good deal with lots of freebies :D :D and it's going to be serviced for the next year and the bloke said I can go in and observe the full service next time so I know what's gannin on. :D

Although I weigh on a Thurs I haven't had the opportunity to update my loss (yes it was a loss this week :D) until today.
I lost 3lbs this week which I was very pleased with. I then celebrated by buying a new bike :wee: and I can't wait to give it a proper test-ride.

I got really sick of trying to find low-syn non-meat burgers that aren't "meat substitute" ones. Makes me really cross that they fill them with loads of fat so I decided to make my own last night. The pictures don't really do the flavour justice, really yum (if I do say so myself).
I used 4 slices of nimble w/meal + coriander, basil and paprika for the breadcrumb mix. This made 8 burgers. I ate 3 last night so classing that as a HExB.
The burger mix consisted of (if I can remember it all):
sweet potato
cherry tomatoes
courgette
carrot
sweet peppers
leek
red onion
finger chillies (with seeds)
mushrooms
garlic
oregano
Schwartz perfect shake Steakhouse Pepper mix (which I add to everything to give it a nice kick)

I roasted the above on a low temp for about 45 mins.
I then bunged it all in the food processor and added some leftover baked beans, a tin of refried beans, (which I was simultaneously delighted and astonished when I found out they were syn-free) sweetcorn and some raw spinach.
I made a bit of a mistake of blending this mixture too much so it became quite sloppy (and almost impossible to make a pattie out of).
I tried sticking the mixture back in the oven for a while to firm it up but it didn't work very well (or I was being impatient because I was so hungry by this point).

To cook the burgers I sprayed some fry light then added the breadcrumbs to a saucepan on a low heat then dolloped the mixture on top. I covered the top in breadcrumbs, covered and left to cook for 3-4 mins on each side. With the breadcrumbs now binding the mixture together I was able to shape the patties better but once cooked they were still very soft.

So hungry was I that I decided to make some pasta 'n' sauce to have with as I couldn't be chewed on to wait any longer.
Spicy Bean Burgers & pasta.jpg

I took a couple to work today and had for lunch with baked sweet potato (with the potato scooped out and mixed with laughing cow extra light) and salad
bean burgers, jacket sweet poatato, salad.jpg

These burgers were much smaller and easier to cook :) (but smaller :()
Salad was: salad leaves, cucumber, carrot, courgette, red & white cabbage, sweet pepper, sweetcorn, mustard cress

With this for afters
nectarine-strawbs-pear.jpg

(My god I was full :D)

Having said that I've just had a lovely big dinner of tomato pasta, roasted veg (same as was used in burgers but without sweet potato) & quorn chef's selection sausages w/ garlic & parsley. There are some leftovers which I may-well also have a bit later.

Right, off to watch the footie, sorry for long absences but two matches (180 mins) per day is quite a time consumer.

COME ON ENGLAND!!!

Hey honey - I get what you mean about the exercise - I am currently working on the cross trainer at the minute and trying to build up a decent time on it and this should help with the bike. Your lunch looks bloody lovely today, I think I might make some burgers soon, need some new meal ideas.

PS Yay for England, boo for the Ukraine (I got them in the work sweepstake!)

Hi hun.
Again well done on the 3lbs and your burgers sound yummy must be frustrating trying to find decent veggie stuff but at least it pushes u to create your own wonderful creations! :)

The footy is very time consuming isn't it but fun :) what are u making of England? Why did u think of the game last night? Made hard work I it didn't we! X

Oh yes, lots of fun indeeeeeeed :) I think the tournament's been great so far. I really enjoyed the (England) match. You've got some right stupid people ringing these phone-ins saying they'd rather we tried to play a passing "attractive" (not always IMO) game and lose than play "ugly" and win, can't understand some people meself. I think we played that game last night like a prem (other English leagues are available ;)) game. That's our strength so hope we play the same against the Ukraine. The two goals we gave away were rubbish but I don't think set-piece defending's ever been our forte. Apart from that I thought we did well defensively and really troubled them. A fair score on balance of chances should've been 4/5-2. I still don't think we're going to get past the quarters as I think Italy or Spain will beat us but I think the future's looking positive. Thought Roy Hodgson played a blinder really, nice to see a positive substitution for a change, unlike his predecessor who just made like-for-like changes thus nothing ever changed.

*End of footie analysis, you may un-glaze*

I agree I think it's been a great euros can't believe russia went out yesterday too and what a surprise with the Greeks. As for the england game as you say The most important thing as u say is the win no matter what way (without cheating of course ;)) I found it frustrating at times when we sat back as much as we did and slowed the game right down as that was when it gave them a chance to close everything down as the play was so slow. A strength of the prem is the pace it's played at you don't get that in many other leagues and when we played at a faster speed that was when the chances came. I agree tho the clowns that say we should play a passing game aren't on this planet. We always deserved to win on Friday as as u said could have been more on balance we were a better side than them. Was glad to see mr seb hasnt changed too still a big a whinger as ever ;) I do love him tho. Roy is doing a good job and looks like he's always looking for a win that's all u want isn't it within reason obviously. It's nice to just enjoy it for what it is as soon as we meet a decent side as u say I think we will be out but I reckon we have the basis for a team that can challenge in the future.

Sorry to take ya thread over again with footy talk :) x

Food Update

Saturday's dinner:
Coronation Quorn on Jacket potato with Kale chips
Coronation Quorn.jpg
My second attempt at making bean burgers:
Bean Burger.jpg
I added some leftover kale from dinner to the breadcrumb mixture (I don't like waste lol) it actually worked really well, added a nice charred flavour. I didn't blend the breadcrumbs down quite so much and as the mixture had been sitting in the fridge a couple of days they ended up quite a lot firmer so I was able to make them a little bit bigger :D Also you can see from the kitchen paper - no fat in them at all :D :D

Sunday was spent watching my mother chuck herself off the Tyne Bridge, she was raising money for the same hospice I'm doing my bike ride for.
ZIp.jpg
Ate out but only had one course (swordfish w/crab linguine), drank diet coke (designated driver :sigh:)

Monday's dinner:
Leftover Coronation Quorn w/ jacket sweet potato (laughing cow ex light mashed in) & salad
Coronation Quorn 2.jpg
There was so much I actually stopped eating before I'd cleared the plate (I rarely if ever do this) so a bit of a NSV for me too.

Tuesday's dinner:
Chicken and mushroom pasta 'n' sauce, 3 quorn cumberland sausages & roasted veg (similar to post #124)

Today's dinner:
Smoked haddock, prawns, poached egg & roast veg (EE day today :))
smoked haddock.jpg

2.5 off for me today :)

Have had a bit of a blip since :( mainly because I was stuck waiting for my bike to be fixed up and hadn't had breakfast (as per on weigh day), all I had to eat was the box of Hi-fi's I'd bought at group (I didn't eat all of them while I was waiting, well, I have now ). Didn't get home until 3:30, had to cycle back in torrential rain via a prawn mayonnaise sandwich and a snickers from the co-op :sigh:

I have had a nice healthy dinner tho so may have salvaged something.
Roasted veg, salmon & poached egg

No more blips for me this week.

Ooh, I'm a bit confused. Can you take it back from Just Giving then? I hope you don't mean to give any more and I really really don't mind putting in the extra (it's only 50p), I think you've been supremely generous as it is.
Are you talking about the starvation with a view to the fact that you were forcing the calories when you were doing your raw diet? I know you said you felt full but needed extra calories. Hello! Congrats WONDERFUL loss this week, well done hon! xox And GOOOOO mummy Andrea too! That's wicked! No, I didn't mean take back the donation I meant add some more this month. IDK what I meant about the calories now because honestly Andrea my head is all over the place this watching every morsel is driving me to the brink. Hopefully I can get some normality back now I am doing SW again. Yep been going round in frickin' circles. Glad you are enjoying the new bike, sounds like a decent place too if they are letting you observe them doing work. Looks like Esther is reserved just for you, I haven't seen her around. :)

Ah thanks chuck. It's great to have you back *mwah*. I'm so sorry your head's been all over the place but I think you've definitely done the right thing by stopping all the craziness and going back to something which has, not only worked for you in the past, but that you felt comfortable with too. If you need to tweak things to suit your diet I think it's only fair. Let's face it. No-one (I know) got overweight from eating too many avocados, nuts or smoothies did they now? You don't eat those things in a quantity enough to make you put on weight cos, if you did, you'd be sick as a dog! I did look for that group on fb but it must be secret as it didn't show up.

Woo hoo 2.5lbs :) x

Sent from my iPhone using MiniMins

Thanks Jo xx Did you see our Seb's goal against the French? Get in my son!!!!

Don't really have too much to add since yesterday really. I'm still not feeling in a 100% positive frame of mind atm. Beating myself up about my blip which I know is stupid and not half as bad as I'm making it in my head. Have had a better day today, but again not 100% on-plan. I've decided that chocolate is unfortunately my nemesis. I need to cut it out completely because once I start I can't stop and I get cravings. It's quite honestly worse than stopping smoking. The minute I get the slightest sniff I'm back on it again. So once those hi-fi bars are gone (yes I did buy two boxes) I AIN'T GETTING ANY MORE!!!!! Too much temptation.

I HATE not being in control. Driving me nuts.

I did work out that if I lose 2.5 lbs for the next three weeks than I'll be at (what was my original) target of 9st 13lbs, with a healthy BMI, in-time for the bike ride. My Team Tinsel target is lower as I want to be a few pounds lighter so I can enjoy Christmas without stressing if I put on some weight. I'd also like to be in the mid-range of the healthy BMI rather than near the top. Once I hit that 9st 13 I will reassess what I think is an achievable target, not just to get to but to maintain, which it think will be a whole new challenge in itself. But, you know me, I like a good challenge :)

What's been really nice lately is that so many more people are noticing my weight loss. When I tell them how much I've lost they're always really surprised so I must've hid my fat well. Though having looked back at my "before" photo I see a really unhappy, unhealthy person. I'm glad she's gone the journey tbh cos she was really dragging me down, the B*tch!

Well, just writing all of that down has really helped. Minimins is therapy :D I'm going to get out of bed the right side tomorrow. Positivity back, 100% and 2.5lbs here I come! I owe it to myself to finish as I started. I will be in control of my body and my mind. (Oh, I guess I did have a bit to add after-all) :8855:

Night x

P.S. Finally finished The Forgotten Garden. It was a long slog but worth it. Am now giving The Hunger Games a go.

Good morning. Hope u got up on the right side this morning mrs :) stop being so hard on yourself about your blip. It really was just that not even a whole day just a short blip in weeks and weeks of working hard and sticking to SW. Snap out of it missus!! :)

Being so close to your target with 2.5 loss per week will be amazing you've done so well and deserve for people to be noticing and telling you that you are looking good. Enjoy it :)

As for mr Seb's goal I did see and enjoyed it too I just love him still I want him back! :) hehe! X

Absolutely what Jo ^ said :D :D You have done amazingly well and what is one day?! sheesh hon. But I TOTALLY get where you are coming from so can empathise. Why do I have an American spellcheck on mimimins? I do NOT want to spell it with a z ffs! *******ized English indeed! ;) you can have a Z in that! :D
I am absolutely going to incorporate some raw days into this plan for sure. I was thinking last night already (!!) about how I wanted a smoothie....only three days back to it and yearning for something else. What am I like? Will leave it for a bit though to let my body settle in...steps. away. from. the. blender....puts spinach back in fridge...:giggle:

that said [email protected] there is a will.... ;) wth?! WHY is it blue?! lmao it must be my language....;)

:8855: :8855: Bad Computer! :pcwhack:

I had a really, really bad day yesterday. Not exclusive to but including:

- a cadbury's fudge
- a caramel freddo
- 10 haribo rhubarb and custard sour jellies
- a Greggs cheese savoury stottie sandwich (only available in North East I believe, stottie is a type of flat bread, it's lush)
- a Greggs cheese and tomato pizza
- a Snickers duo
- 2 x vanilla cupcakes

:eek::eek::eek::mad::cry:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! WTF IS WRONG WITH ME?

I don't understand where this has come from.
I'm hoping I've got it out of my system now. I am going to try really hard today and not just say that I'm going to try hard.
It's going to be one day at a time for me atm I think.

Have had a healthy brekkie and been out on the bike, not that that wasn't without trauma as was having chain / gear issues AGAIN and had to take it back to the shop AGAIN. It is now sorted so hopefully no more problems. It has meant hat I had to cut short my ride so am going to do DVD later on. I have weighed myself at home and I think I've gained 2.5lbs since I weighed at Slimming World on Thursday. I definitely think I can get rid of that by Thursday, and if so I'll be happy that I've managed to salvage something. If not, it's no more than I deserve.

Yesterday - 100%

Today - 100% (Getting there)

Cycled to /from work (12.5 miles in 90 minutes, 809 calories burned)
Been to dance classes tonight for an extra 1hr 45 of body magic. Was quite intense as we were doing a really fast Irish dance (that just got faster)

Breakfast:
"Protein" pancake (Made with porridge oats (HExB), Cottage cheese, Egg + 10g linseeds (2 syns)) Probs sounds yuk but actually very nice, much like a normal pancake), with smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, baked beans and mushrooms
Pancake Project - YouTube

Lunch:
2 x homemade spicy bean burgers
stir fry veg
laughing cow light cheese triangle (HExA)

Dinner:
Sea Bass
African Sweet potato and butter bean stew (6 syns)
