My SW diary, by Bess.

Yes sorry I was going to say it wasn't my roulade!! It was really yummy, my bf loved it covered in squirty cream! I don't have an electric whisk so it was a lot of elbow grease for me to get my eggs right stiff but I got there in the end! Xxxx

Well it's made and cooling - looks lovely and is bright yellow, because of the eggs I suppose. I had to shove a hen aside to get some more for the Birthday cake, which isn't SW. Gluten free though so DD2 can eat it. I might have tasted a bit of the mixture......

As the cake is going to be filled with strawberries and cream, I thought I'd mix a little low cal hot choc drink powder in with the quark filling for the roulade and pick some raspberries to roll in it too, then dust the top with Splenda  - sounds good. Thanks Dawn and Jules, for the recipe and the idea! :D

Ooh Bess...it sounds delicious! I'm with u... think the quarks much better with the options choc in it xx

A great success all round! We think it would be good frozen as well, if Quark would freeze? An SW birthday celebration in fact! The menu was pea and mint soup, chicken breasts rolled in ground linseeds and herbs from the garden, sprinkled in a little rape oil and roasted in the oven so the crust was crispy. Then I dug new potatoes and picked salad and raspberrries for the roulade. Non SW was the pink cava, bucks fizz and cake, which was 3 layers of sponge with strawberries and cream. I tried a very small slice and had a glass of cava.

Very late in the evening my dog and I sat in my favourite place on the doorstep, sipping a whisky and soda, doing the crossword. (She's one smart dog!)

Forgot to weigh this morning, but am having a 'fat day' .

Good news on the roulade then! phew! I never thought about freezing it...all the piggies in my house stuffed it straight away...but might try that next time xx

I'm having a fat day too, largely due to the Indian takeaway we had last night! I have to admit that I'm actually quite glad there aren't any scales here!

Have a nice day xx

Well done on just the glass :D

Does she prefer The Times crossword or the Guardian?? :D

Fat days and thin days are weird as they don't always reflect what the scales are saying.....definitely a mental thing, well it is with me anyway. Just like when I am having an 'ugly day' and then people say "oooh you look good" and I get all defensive and stroppy with them because I think they are taking the pi$$ :D:D:D

I think my 'fat day' earlier was a prediction! :sigh:

Went to the hairdresser yesterday after 2 years of doing it myself/the girls chopping the bits I can't see. (Following a disasterous cut just before my daughter's wedding .) I explained that I just wanted it tidied up, with little taken off. The hairdresser spend ages trimming it and it looks no flippin' different! In fact I'm just about to take the scissors to my fringe because I can't see where I'm going! Huh!

What is it with haridressers, eh? They either scalp you or take so little off you can't see a difference.

I'm having a thin day - well at least night. "Went" to the loo about 2 hours ago. The first proper one in 4.5 days!!!! Probably TMI but just thought I'd share this with you all! :D

Do not be ashamed, and you are certainly not hopeless as you have put in your signature. Scared I can understand but we're all here to help.

We all have bad days/weeks and struggle with this losing weight lark. I keep saying it, and I'll say it again - Losing weight is hard, very hard. Bit in my opinion being fat is harder still.

So - you are just going to have to "pick yourself up, dust yourself down and start all over again" to quote an old song.

Do you do a menu plan and follow it?
Do you plan in the things you can't do without as syns?
If you don't do these two things then it is easy to get derailed without realising it. Everyone knows that I save all my syns for the odd glass (or 3) of wine. It's not something I couldn't do without but I don't want to do without it. And it keeps me sane!

You do need to work out what to do to keep on track and we really are all here to try and help you.

Chin up hun - PM me if you want to stay private. ((( HUGS )))

No, I don't, not all the time, ok, not much of the time. Sadly by nature I'm much too laid back and sloppy. Good advice though and I shall take it. Tomorrow I hope will be the start of a better way of eating.
Something like this:

B: Fruit and eggs

L: Soup or salad?

S: I know will be roast chicken etc.

Have lots of Muller Lights in and fruit. Syns can be a tiny milky bar and maybe a whisky and soda.

See, I can plan, now I just have to stick to it......

Thanks Bev.

That looks absolutely fine and it wasn't so difficult was it? :) But what about Hexs Bess? Can't see an A or B. I assume though that as you are having Roast Chicken there will be some spuds floating around.

If not, have some bread with your soup and get dunking!
Or have soup and a salad sarnie. Go on, be a devil!
And I'd deffo have the whiskey and soda but I would wouldn't I.

Bess,

I understand that it's hard sometimes but you musn't get 'down' on a daily weight. They vary as you know. If however you are down because you aren't sticking to the plan, then I can completely understand as you know.

Have a think about what it is that you are finding difficult ? Is it a particular time of day or a particular food that you just keep eating ? Is it that you aren't eating enough/enough syns and then go looking for other food ? If you are just eating 'stuff' for the sake of it then maybe try the 'Gail's easing back into a plan' method. It really helped me to get back onto the plan. I knew I couldn't carry on as I was last week and yet I didn't feel that I could stick to the plan as it was - I was just craving too much sugar or eating for the sake of it. That week using more syns than usual (15-25 per day) really helped me. I just needed that extra leeway. And now I feel back to how I was before (almost).

Maybe try thinking about some new recipes to try - that also helped me when I was getting a bit bored of eating the same things all the time. I'm sure we can all help with suggestions if you need them.

Big hugs and feel free to PM me too if you need to be more private.

Well said as always Gail xx

Well said Gail!

Bess, maybe daily weighing is part of the problem? I don't actually own scales and although I do sometimes weigh on my wii, all my actions in the week are sort of leading up to my official weigh in on the Tuesday. Perhaps if you stayed off the scales it would make you more inclined to stick to plan as you'd be looking to get the result you wanted on weigh in day rather than veering off plan then using daily weigh ins to check of you've "gotten away with it" or not. Just a thought, I know everyone is different though.

A couple of months ago I was feeling a bit stuck in a rut food-wise and found I was eating a lot of the more "junk"-y of SW food all the time- egg and SW chips, quorn burgers and sw chips etc, also I was missing desserts and pretty bored of eating the same stuff so I got a copy of the sw magazine, did a plan for the week where every meal including my packed lunches and HEAs and Bs were all planned out rigidly plus put in a pud for every single day of the week but leaving myself a good 7 or so syns for spontaneous stuff. My shopping list was really carefully planned out too- I put down exactly the amounts of things I needed and everything to save money on my shop. It was a really great week and I am going to do that every day during my 6 week holiday! My bf absolutely loved it too!!

I've also started collecting yummy recipes on Evernote (not necessarily sw ones, ive saved recipes from bbc food and serious eats that i saw and thought could be adapted) and I have so many recipes I want to make that it has made me feel positive about cooking and being on plan again. There really are loads of amazing recipes on the SW website too, pretty much anything you can think of.

Sometimes I feel bad that I don't have lots of salads or superspeed soups but I think that you don't actually have to eat any of that stuff (our gourmet meal at gail's today is proof that you really can eat the yummiest things!), in fact if I was eating soups and salads I'm pretty sure I'd be going off plan all the time as psychologically for me theyre "boring diet foods"!

Everyone has given great advice Bess! Can't add to it so just sending big hugs from Kent!:hug99:

I'm also struggling at the minute (started with birthday cake earlier in the week and I haven't stopped eating sugar since) - It's hard to get back on track but it can be done, Gail and many others are proof of that. I'm going back to my no sugar diet as of today as I'm terrified that the last few days will trigger a migraine and need to think hard about whether I should go back on a formal diet to lose those last few lbs as I'm not getting anywhere on my own...

So today is day 1 of me being back on track (not sure which track yet but it will be in the right direction at least).

I'll make you a deal - if you promise me that you will NOT weigh yourself until WI day (Tuesday isn't it - so just one day really), I promise that I will dig out my running shoes and go for a run tomorrow night (am hyperventilating at the thought)....
