NannyDoreen & Upndown's daily diaries

Hi Doreen, Thought I'd pop in and subscribe.
Well done on your weight loss so far.

Nice to see you here Emmaline - you'll see it's a friendly (if a bit nutty) thread and Doreen's full of fun and keeps us all amused and in order (well sort of!) You're right - she has done very well on her weight loss and inspires us along the way. Although I'm not doing very well at the mo. xx

Sorry Phil still isn't feeling good, Linda. What a start to his retirement! :(

Don't you just love the feeling when you've had a good clear out? :) I never really feel like doing it but, when I have, I feel really good!

Lucky Doreen having sunshine and warmth! Think we've had similar weather to you! Dull, windy and pouring with rain! Yuck!

Good luck with your on-plan day tomorrow, Linda. I always think it's so hard to get back on track, after having the freedom of eating what you want. Think we'll struggle after we've had our Aussie visitors staying with us for nearly a fortnight in August. :S Anyway, have a lovely evening and, hopefully, Phil will be much better by the morning. xx

Yes Phil's fine now and weather has improved in the last hour - think we're going out for a walk in the woods later if weather keeps up.

We had a bit of an upset this morning - occasionally we've had a leak coming thro the landing ceiling which has also made a 'rusty' mark on the wall from the window lintel - Phil's been up to the attic and replaced some joints on the pipes cos they looked suspect but it keeps on happening. So today he went on the roof and found a broken roof tile which had been unsuccessfully repaired with glue.

That puzzled us for a while but we think the only solution is the ppl who installed our wood burner last year - because it's only leaked since did that work and no-one has been on the roof. I don't suppose they'll admit it when we ring them and Phil will repair it but it's so annoying - in addition to the tile, the ceiling and paintwork - part of the woodwork is wet in the attic and may need replacing and some plasterboard on the landing is now bulging - aaaah it's not long been decorated!!

Yes I put off clearing out for ages but as you say - when you do - it's a good feeling and I wonder why I didn't so it sooner!

Yes I'm sure you will enjoy your visitors but it'll be impossible to be fully on plan - you may have seen Phil and I are aiming to get back on the wagon on Monday - too late for a good reading on SW scales Tuesday morning tho! Hope the weather improves for you and you have a good weekend xx

A great day's food Doreen - even with your hypo - you've been really consistent recently - you're bound to lose that half pound and you'll be in the 15s - a great achievement!! xx

Just quickly ladies while I remember. The SP lady was not doing SP she was doing EE. It seems I had misunderstood. It seems she has joined a Gym though does not do anything too strenuous.

I know she is exercising quite a bigt but nontheless I think it is a bigger achievement to lose 13lb on EE.

Catch up later

That is totally amazing! :O With SW, even when I did it when I was younger (so can't blame the ageing process), I can stick to it religiously but some weeks I STS. like last week and sometimes, even gain!! There is absolutely no rhyme or reason with it. The only thing I know is, that it does work and that it is very doable, unlike some 'diets'. How that lady lost that much weight in one go is staggering, especially when she's only a similar weight to you to begin with, Doreen!

Made me laugh when you said you'd struggled to spell the word 'disease', then called me 'teacher', Doreen. :) When I was typing the paragraph above, I had to replace the word I was going to use, for 'religiously' because, even after about five attempts, I just could not remember how to spell it!! So much for 'teacher'!! :8855: Can't tell you what THE word is because ........ I can't spell it!! :) All will be revealed when I have checked my dictionary later!

Sorry to hear about your disaster, Linda. How very annoying, especially where it's spoilt your decorating. We had our lounge decorated a couple of years ago, then, about four weeks later, we had a leak from the water pipe to the toilet, which stained the lounge ceiling. Grrr! Could you claim on your house insurance? Although, having suggested that, quite often, it whacks your premium up so much, it makes it not worth bothering with, doesn't it? Really hope you get some joy from the firm who did the work.

A bit of a gloomy day here but, at least, it's dry. Been wanting to hang some washing out but the rain clouds have been hovering all day so haven't bothered. Probably would have been dry by now!

Right, I'll have to resume my search for a sofa soon. I've been looking on-line for a few weeks now and thought I'd seen a good one last week but, when we saw it in the shop, it looked nothing like the on-line photo. We just want one that you can really sink into. One that's good quality but not a horrendous price. We've got Arighi Bianchi (don't know if you've seen them advertising on the telly) very close to us. It's in Macclesfield, where we both work and used to live but they are quite pricey. There furniture is really good quality but not sure we can stretch to their prices. We'd really like to get a new sofa and armchair before our visitors come because, to be honest, the ones we have now are just uncomfortable and I'd be quite embarrassed. :ashamed0005:

Oh well, no doubt speak to you later. Enjoy the rest of your afternoon, ladies. xx

Just looked and the word I was struggling with was - rigidly!!! Now, how difficult is THAT, Doreen?!!!! :D

I tell you what I do Kathy, my phone is usually next to me so I type it in as though I am going to send a text and usually with the predictive text it shows you the word. So funny you could not spell the word until you looked it up. When you look at it it is really easy just ly at the end of the normal rigid. Well obviously not this time eh? :giggle:

I did exavtly the3 same with the washing, we kept getting dark clouds so I did not put it in - out even.
I popped back to the shop earlier to get some bread and put my big coat on and was very surprised how warm it was. I could have finished my front garden. Never mind there is always tomorrow.

Ouch! A sore behind! :D I know what you mean about that elusive word - can't even think what alternatives I typed in for the spellings, either!!! I mean, how CAN you spell such a word incorrectly?!!! :sigh:

Your dinner sounds really tasty, Doreen. We had BGTY sausages in a chilli and kidney bean sauce, with mash and peas. It was very quick and easy but tasty too so, all good. :) Pete's just washing up, then think we're going to watch a film. Hope I don't nod off, as usual!

Hope you sleep well, Doreen and I'll 'see' you tomorrow. xx

That's amazing - well done to her - was it her first week I wonder? Whatever week it was - she has done well - as you say it's a bigger achievement on EE. I hope it motivated her to do another good week - it'll be interesting to know how she gets on this week - good luck to her and us all in fact!!xx

Just looked and the word I was struggling with was - rigidly!!! Now, how difficult is THAT, Doreen?!!!! :D

I had to smile about your word search - I'm glad I'm not the only one - sometimes I'm talking and lose my thread during a sentence bad enough with family & friends but can be embarrassing with strangers!

I've heard of that posh shop (won't even try to spell it!) but as you say the prices are v high - we bought our last sofa from Sofaworks - it seems good quality and not cheap but not expensive either - certainly not like A...B... shop prices!!

Our previous sofa was from Next and we loved it and it lasted really well - again not cheap but not over the top either - we had a problem when it arrived - it was a little too long (cos there was a misprint on the Next leaflet reg the length) but rather than send it back and wait another 12 weeks for another sofa - Phil suggested that we changed our radiator to make it fit and to ask Next to pay for it - and because Phil fitted it hiimself the cost was low - so Next said cos we'd been honest they gave us a £200 discount for the inconvenience as well as paying for the new radiator - they said that some customers asked for ridiculous amounts of compensation!! Hope you find something soon - I love having new things but don't like the hunt to find them!!

Annoying for you too to have a leak after recently decorating - we did think if claiming on the insurance but our policy has a £200 excess (which reduced the amount we pay) then as you say next year's premium would rise - so poor Phil will have to fix it!! At least he'll have more time now!!

Weather has been wet early on, then occasional sunny spells but the clouds were threatening as with you and pretty cool too. Think the forecast is brighter for next week - let's hope that's accurate! xx

Lucky you with the weather - poor Phil will be sorting the leak out - I'll be the tea/snack provider and will tidy up afterwards ;). Hope you can get a new armchair soon - we can't have our leader having a sore bottom!!

In the meantime - perhaps you could get a big comfy cushion or buy some of those padded things that thin girls wear to make their bottoms more shapely!!:)

Ouch! A sore behind! :D I know what you mean about that elusive word - can't even think what alternatives I typed in for the spellings, either!!! I mean, how CAN you spell such a word incorrectly?!!! :sigh:

Nice sounding tea and well done Pete on washing up! Hope you managed to see the end of the film - it's annoying if you miss it isn't it? We thought of going to the cinema today but we didn't fancy any of the films.

I've overeaten again today - but Phil and I plan to start again on Monday - fingers crossed xx

Carly who lost the 13lb was most difinitely not on her first week. I am thinking of popping into her class Monday evening to see what she does this week. Can`t be big again - can it? We will see.

I have tried a cushion on top but no good so I am going to try a pillow underneath today. However I draw the line at padded knickers. I have enough padding as it is. Not as much as it was though. I have probably squashed the chair with my old bum.

Pays to be honest most of the time Linda.

I have problems with excess too. Twice this year freezer has defrosted because of electric. Not worth claiming as the excess is more than what I lost.

I must get on, it is 11.15 and all I have done is put washing out had breakfast and played on here. Am meeting a friend for coffee at 1pm so must have a shower and get dressed. Wanted also to do a little bit of gardening at the front before I went out. Not much left to do with regard to weeding.

Have a good day all and speak to you later. xx

Morning, ladies. :) Mmm, liking the sound of the chicken, Doreen! Enjoy your time with your friend. I'm the same as you this week, Doreen. One pound off (feeling slightly disappointed but this is how it always is with me) but better off than on. Pete lost 3lbs, which I'm glad about. Coming back as a man next time!! The padded knickers idea made me laugh but, yes, stick to a pillow! :D

Brilliant customer service from Next, Linda. It definitely pays off though, doesn't it? You'll just tell everyone how good they were. Will have a look at Sofa Works site, thanks. Always good to have recommendations. Shame about the insurance but, as you say, at least Phil has the time to do it now. He'll be wishing he'd never retired at this rate! :)

Cloudy here again but, at least it's not raining.......yet! Have a good day everyone. xx

Sunny here with white fluffy bits in the sky. Bit blowy but a lovely day. Washing nearly dry too.

So Lucky.

You're probably already in bed, Doreen so hope you sleep well. No getting up at 5am tomorrow either! :)

Yes, the little boy is on insulin and we also have a glucose gel to rub into his gums, if it's really bad. He also has sweet biscuits and Jelly Tots, just as top ups during the day.

Well, I'm off to bed too soon so I'll say 'goodnight ladies'. xx

Bless his cotton socks. So hard for them. I hope his parents help him as he gets older to control his diabetes himself. He is a little young yet. It is good you have the ability to help him in school.

My nephew Simon`s wife Anna has had diabetes since a young child and when they first got married she was having problems all the time. Our Simon had to put sugar stuff in her mouth during the night very often until she had more idea what to do herself. Simon read up on it. Anna was totally dependent on her mother as to what to do and never learnt for herself. She was in her twenties when she got married. It is a very fickle auto-immune disease. (had trouble spelling disease teacher) :)

I have been out and had a shortish walk today to the local post office. It was a lot easier this time, didn`t affect my back at all. I must have loosened up now since my week of sitting around. It is very windy here today and my silly neighbour is on the roof taking down the old dish for the TV. I do hope he is ok. Too scary to watch.

I may take a walk down to the local cafe later. To late to go to the library with those books I didn`t take back
yesterday. They shut at 12 and I don`t want to go in the car :p.

Anyway I hope you all have a nice day and hope the weather is kind to you. Good planning

Hi - not sure how I missed these posts yesterday - sorry ladies - poor little boy - diabetes is tricky to control I believe - one of my closest has it and struggles at times but at his young age it must be very difficult - I'm sure you care for him well at school - as Doreen says let's hope his parents help him to become independent. Your nephew did well to help his wife deal with the condition didn't he - obviously takes after his Aunty D ;) !!

Good luck with your continued search for a sofa - I'd be happy with your pound loss but it wd have been a miracle after all I've eaten this week! It's going in the right direction for you Kathy!! Well done Pete too - men seem to lose faster don't they? xx

Hope you enjoyed coffee with your friend - good to have the weeds under control - Carly did really well - wonder if she had a gain the week b4 - whatever - she had a great week last week and hope she's not disappointed this week and keeps on losing till she gets to goal! Hope your pillow idea on the chair works even if only for a while xx

Hi - just popped in before going to bed - it's been a tiring and upsetting day - we've not long got back from Mil's - she's only eaten one weetabix with marmalade and 3 half full cups of tea all day, her chest sounds worse and that's whilst she's permanently on antibiotics for her serious chest condition plus for the first time, she didn't want to get dressed today either. So we've decided to ask the doctor to do a house call 2moro - which we'll go over for.

Hope your days have been enjoyable and you've been more on plan than me - will be trying again 2moro - think Phil may join me. Night, night xx

Sorry to hear about you day not being good Linda. Hopefully you will get some help/advice from the Doctor.
If you read this tonight, have a good sleep, if in the morning hope you slept ok. ;)

So sorry to hear that, Linda. Glad the doctor will be visiting tomorrow. I hope you both manage to sleep well tonight. Take care. xx
