Nikki's post - pregnancy time to get to target SW diary!

Im sure that will be up in no time with the tabs, but you will probably feel very tired for a few days until it gets back into normal range, so take it as easy as you can x

I'm sure you know this, but take your iron tablets with orange juice as it makes it absorb much quicker. Rest up Hun, you'll be feeling back to some sort of normality soon. Are you breastfeeding? Once things settle down into a routine everything gets a lot easier. Big hugs yummy mummy xx

Gosh I'm shocked she said no swaddle. Every mama I've known has recommended it. We use the summer swaddle me (saved from when imi was tiny) or one of those crochet blankets so bub can't over heat. X

I agree with Fiona, try swaddling. BabyB didn't like to be swaddled but he did sleep in his moses basket once he was asleep.....it was the getting him to go to sleep that was the problem..... He needed to be vigorously rocked!! Lol!! Try the swaddling, if that doesn't work you'll find a way. It's trial and error this mummy business.... All babies like different things!! Hope your coping ok xxx

Thanks ladies :) I didnt get time to go get a swaddle yesterday so its on my to do list today. She managed a couple of hours in the basket yesterday morning but none at night. Will be trying the hot water bottle too, fingers crossed for tonight x

Hi Nikki,

I hope you've managed to get a swaddle or tried it with a blanket. Cellular blankets (with the holes) are good. I'll keep my fingers crossed for tonight for you!! I hope you've managed to get some sleep too, make sure you sleep when she does nap in the basket, or let others hold her. It really does get easier too xxx

hi nikki i agree with the swaddling and don't be putting pressure on yourself either. wee babies can take time to get to know and everything is trial and error with no two babies being the same. i used cellular blanket to swaddle too x

I really appreciate all of your support. It means the world.

My mum bless her heart went out and got us a baby bath support and a groswaddle blanket today. We gave Millie a lovely warm bath with some sleeping bath stuff, got her all snuggly, had a feed and tried to get the blanket round.... I couldnt manage it! She kept kicking out and so I couldnt get it wrapped around tight enough. She had a little snooze in my arms whilst I watched some telly and then at 10.30 I put her in her basket and between 10.30pm and now (5.20am!) she has only been out of the basket about 2 hours in 7 hours, mainly to feed and then get settled again. She is struggling a bit to latch on since my milk came in but between us she did really well last night and i'm super proud that we might be getting somewhere :)

I've come downstairs with her now and put her in her basket down here so that Daddy can sleep for a couple of hours as he is nipping into work first thing this morning and then I can have some snooze time later when he gets home.

On a very positive note, considering how huge my bump was it is now practically non existent! Still swollen up from the drip and I cant even fit in my size 12's BUT Millie was so worth every pound gained whilst pregnant and i'm happy to go at the weight loss slowly. First weigh in will be 1st June, I weighed the day I went in labor and was still 13st 5lb so a total weight gain of 3st 9lb.

Awwww Nikki, sounds like your definitely getting somewhere!! I know what you mean about the swaddling, babyB kicked so much he wouldn't have it!! I ended up with him in a grow bag at the end of the first week! I think you can buy swaddles that do up rather than a blanket, but if your getting there yourself anyway you should be fine!! :)

That's fab news that your bumps gone down! Our bodies are amazing what they can do!! And that's some restraint you've got not weighing yourself. It's for the best - focus on Millie, and you'll be surprised come 1st June how much you will have lost.

I read on Fiona's diary that you've said you've lost your appetite. I think it's quite common, Fiona said it happened to her, and it did to me too. I think it's your body being in shock from what it's been through. Just remember to make sure you eat though, even if your not that hungry. It's important that you've got lots of energy. I found jacket potatoes (cooked I'm the microwave for quickness!!) and beans to be good. Still slimming world but will give you lots of energy.

Right enough of me waffling on to you!!! Have a lovely day with gorgeous Millie x

Thank you for your lovely message b :) i need it after the day ive had! Midwife came at lunch time about 12.45, Millie had lost far too much weight 17.5% to be exact. She called the hospital who wanted us to go in to a&e. Got here at 2pm and lots of tests later it has come down to her not having enough milk and being dehydrated. Its all my fault and i feel awful, we have to stay in for monitoring tonight and there is a special breast feeding lady in tomorrow to help.

Just feel so helpless and feel like ive let her down.

Nikki, it is NOT your fault. Please don't think that. Your trying your very best to breastfeed and do the best you can for Millie. I only breastfed once so I can't really give personal examples of your situation, but I've friends who have been through the same as you, and with help you can get breastfeeding sorted. Sometimes it just takes a little bit longer for babies to get used to it. Your in the right place, she'll be fine, you'll both get things sorted out. It's horrible feeling helpless, and it won't be the last time, but you haven't let her down, your being the best mummy trying to breastfeed. Lots of love and big hugs xx

awe hugs nikki. listen none of this is your fault!! my little boy was getting fed thru a tube while i was trying to get milk out of my nipple using a syringe. it just wasn't comin. eventually i had use electric pump on both boobs and i wd get just enough to give him alternate feeds thru the tube...one breast milk then the next formula. eventually trend was his sugars were dropping when getting the breast milk. in the end, and to get him better we gave him formula at all times and his sugars stabled and we got him home after ten days. breast feeding isn't for everyone and unless anyone has tried it i dare them to differ. i am in no way saying to give up or that formula or breast feeding is better as it is very much personal choice. just please don't blame yourself..keep us updated and hugs to you both x x

I agree with debtin. In no way did I mean that breastfeeding is the best/ only way - my baby is formula fed and I think that formulas are so good nowadays not to worry if you have to feed her that way. BabyBs sugars dropped, I was ill, so I gave up trying. I just mean if your really desperate to breastfeed there are people that can help you try. But like Debtin said, it doesn't work for everyone, and don't let anyone make you feel guilty about the decisions you make x

Isobel was threatened with hospital because she lost 12% shes only just scraped through by gaining 10 grammes so im with you on this sweetheart.. re breastfeeding don't beat yourself up Nikki the lactation consultant will help you out and if it means formula well that's ok too I just didn't have enough when Imogen was small I was destroyed BUT formula kept her healthy and gaining well even though it wasn't my first choice. Ill be thinking of you tonight xxx

You ladies really are so lovely with all your advice and kind words. It means the world to me when people care so much like all 3 of you so clearly do.

Millie is being tube fed formula because her sodium is so high they can see how dehydrated she is. Its so upsetting seeing her like that and feeling helpless but i know she is in the best place possible. If it means formula from now on then ill happily do it. Im going to try expressing in the morning and see how much im producing and if its enough ill invest in an electric pump to help.

It doesnt help that i have the dickiest belly ever from the laxatives and am practically doubled over in pain :-( its 4.30 now and it has eased. In fact there cant be much left in me!! Haha.
