Phoenyx does Atkins....

The Harcombe diet has its own forum, so you can register and have a look, but won't really be able to post, but that never bothers me as I prefer this forum tbh...............nice and friendly................but when I have an issue that I want some clarification on I go hunting there :giggle: Have a look and see what you think..............I am happy on it, but you are not allowed nuts until phase 3, when you have lost the weight you want to lose. I was recommended it by someone else on this forum and I am very pleased they did :)

Okay so time for another weekly summary before weigh in tomorrow...

Thurs 15g carb / 1102 cal / 30 mins jogging
Fri 33g carb / 1565 cal / 36 min jogging
Sat 65g carb / 2965 cal / 45 min housework
Sun 25g carb / 1127 cal / rest day
Mon 31g carb / 1374 cal / shred level 3
Tues 29g carb / 1515 cal / 57 min walk / 20 min run
Wed 19g carb / 1745 cal / rest day

All days water was 2-3l. And I can't help but notice my high calorie days came the day after I did the most exercise! I wonder, given that, whether its worth exercising...whether I actually get enough benefit!!! I do actually enjoy exercise so I'll keep it up for the moment but I'm going to have to make sure I have lots of low carb Atkins friendly stuff on hand (unlike the bag of pistachios on sat night)...

Hi there, I love your diary your first entry I could've written myself! Especially re loss of family time on a vlcd. I truly missed sit down meals with the kids I did actually cook for them but they adked so many Qs about and would keep offering their own food as they thought I was missing out. I really didn't want it to have any impact with thier relationship with food.

Your doing well, keep it up and I look forward to reading more of you journey to your new slimmer, happier, fitter self x.

Thank you so much foryour very kind words!I shall check out your diary later (supposed to be getting ready for work now not lying in bed on minimins!!!)

Well done X. Summer 2012 watch out pheonyx is on her way !! (if we get a summer....hope we do).

I can easily eat half a chicken - and if i've been doing exercise will no doubt have lots of other stuff too:)

You're doing well - onwards and downwards!

Hi congrats on your loss this week :) I know we shouldn't compare, but just wanted to share this with you.........the Harcombe diet actually advocates no exercise.........apparently, according to the book, a chemical is released during exercise which actually has a negative effect on losing weight.........think I have that right, but please don't quote me on it as don't have the book in front of me, but its something along those lines. Obviously if you enjoy it then stick with it, but its a thought...................:) I seriously must stop scale hopping as its so demorialising, but somehow don't think that's gonna happen anytime soon.................:giggle:

Totally agree with you Dawn. I've read loads of stuff that says walking is the best exercise for weight loss and cardio can create more problems than it solves , but I have a social group I run with and don't want to give it up. It does make me feel better, I love getting out and sweating a bit! But I'm just having to learn to moderate it - I go slower now. I don't think it'll help my weight loss, but I do think it will help maintenance when I get there, and I do enjoy it ;)

I need to find somewhere to hide my scales...problem is, if I hide them, I'll know where to find them!

Glad to know its not just me! I made a mistake today - not too big a mistake, but I ate a whole avocado for lunch, without checking the carbs first - and they're higher than I thought!!! But then again, I felt better on my run. Maybe avocado's the way to go!

You made me laugh out loud with your post :) I walk and do zumba, absolutely love zumba and at one time was doing it 6 days out of 7 and ended up with a foot injury :( I lost inches, but no weight...............at the end of the day doing something you enjoy has to be beneficial even if its just on a psychological level :)

Well done on the half lb xxx

Hi phee,

Hope you have a lovely fat-fighting friday x

Hi phee,

Hope you have a lovely fat-fighting friday x

Why thank you! My Friday was good, but felt exhausted all day - not sure why, may be fighting off a cold..

B 100g Greek yoghurt, handful of mixed seeds (no berries, ran out)
L tuna nicoise salad (one egg, whole can of tuna in oil, salad leaves, green beans, squeeze of lemon)
S 50g almonds
T out for Thai so a little more relaxed - hot and sour chicken soup, stir fried duck with veg, 2 x 175 ml red wine
S 25g macadamia nuts

Exercise: one hour house cleaning before landlords visit (!) and ten min walk / run to catch a train!

Must stop eating so many nuts! Think I might limit myself to an ounce a day.

As I posted on another thread, I'm far too focused on calories rather than hunger and that means I'm obsessing and it's becoming more of a diet than a life plan.

So from today (sat) I'm logging on here rather than mfp and am ignoring calories. Carbs will take care of themselves if I stick to plan, and I should notice any carb creep here...

Saturday

Brunch - cooked breakfast at the local farm shop (2 sausages, 4 rashers of bacon, tomato, egg, mushroom), 2 coffees with cream (second was decaf)

Snacks - small soya latte, 2 marmite cheddar bites (40g), pepperami

Dinner - 2 salmon steaks, tbsp fresh mayo, mixed roasted veg (tomatoes, courgettes, red & yellow peppers)

Water - 2 litres
Exercise - none

Feel much better today - no idea how many cals, and stayed away from nuts (the edible kind ;) )

Was a tad naughty considering I'm cash poor at the mo, and bought a kindle touch. It's fab! The first book I bought was the paleo solution! The second, when I've got money, will be sue townsends the woman who went to bed for a year (I think that's one of my goals!!! No seriously about a woman who, as soon as her kids left home, put herself first...I can totally empathise! I've been putting off buying it because I'd hate it to be disappointing!)

Morning Phoenyx

So sorry I have only just posted here now, been caught up in my own work/life dramas, but when I saw you wanted to get "The woman who went to bed for a year", I thought "there's a kindred spirit!" :D

I know what you mean about nuts, once I start I don't stop! Liked all the stuff on the Gary Taubes list of can's, might take some of that onboard as i climb back on the Atkins wagon this week.

Woke up v hungry today - v tempted by pancakes I make for the kids, but I resisted :)

Semi lazy day today - I have tonnes of marking to do (plus all the usual laundry) but at home coz of weather and don't have to go out :)

B 3 egg omelette, 2 chicken drumsticks and half an avocado.

Well done for resisting, not made pancakes for ages. Weather was horrendous here also. Hope you had a lovely weekend x.

Hi, just catching up after being away at the weekend, or away from minis :( just want to say that I think you have made a good decision to stop worrying about your calories :) I'm low carbing, but eating cheese, cream and butter so if I was worrying about the calories too, I don't think my meals would be anywhere near as nice as they are and I think having nice meals is keeping me on track and making this a lifestyle choice rather than a diet...................I'm going to make some home-made ice-cream tomorrow just using double cream and 85% grated chocolate and will use that sort of thing as my treat now :)
