Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: From Conception to Birth, and Beyond!

Something n the air nelly. I had the same drama last night. Eabha last fed at (finished) 8:40 so wa unsure if I shud wake her thinking she'd wake at midnight just as I'd be getting into a nice sleep.
Decided in the end to leave her as she looked so peaceful... She woke n fed just now... So glad I left her...

Ooh poor you. Obviously some reaction although this may mean that you were already immune to it which is a good thing. If it is sore then I would ring dr and just check x

Mine was a bit red and achey but didn't lump or feel hot. Hope you get to speak to Doctor soon. It's probably just a reaction but better to get it checked xx

And our computer is a dinosaur and donor really an alternative option! Have a nice weekend anyhow! Xx

After talking to some of you I was going to start giving Joshua water.....and then I read this:

"In general, it's not a good idea to give your baby water until he's about 6 months old. Until then, he'll get all the hydration he needs from breast milk or formula, even in hot weather.Giving a baby younger than 6 months old too much water can interfere with his body's ability to absorb the nutrients in breast milk or formula. It can also cause his tummy to feel full, which curbs his desire to feed. (While small sips of water probably won't hurt your baby, it's best to check with his doctor beforehand during those first six months.)In rare cases, a baby who drinks too much water can develop a condition known as water intoxication, which can cause seizures and even a coma. Water intoxication happens when too much water dilutes the concentration of sodium in the body, upsetting the electrolyte balance and causing tissues to swell.Adding too much water to your baby's formula not only risks water intoxication, it means that your baby is taking in fewer nutrients than he needs. Carefully follow the package directions for mixing powdered or concentrated formula and don't try to stretch formula by using more than the recommended amount of water. In some instances – if your baby has gastroenteritis, for example – the doctor might advise you to give him an electrolyte drink like Pedialyte or Infalyte to help prevent dehydration.Once your baby is 6 months old, it's okay to give him sips of water when he's thirsty. You still don't want to overdo it, though, or you might give him a tummy ache or make him too full to eat well. After his first birthday, when your baby's eating solids and drinking whole milk, you can let him drink as much water as he likes."

I've seen this but was told that ff babies need water. Apparently if you bf then the milk to begin with at a feed is more watery then it becomes thicker at the hind milk. With formula it's all the same consistency so need a little water during the day. I think advice changes over time, like how you should prep feeds, and between HV.

I've read that too but, to be honest, I think they do sometimes need a drink of something else. If I had to drink cups of tea all day every day I'd be desperate for a refreshing drink so I figure that's how babies much feel sometimes. I'd never give it in place of formula. Cole has no more than 2oz - I only make a 4oz bottle as that's the minimum the TT machine will do - and he has it right in the middle of two bottles so it doesn't affect him taking his milk. He has it probably every other day, maybe every third day. He loves water, has since the first time I tried him with it when he had a sore throat. At the end of the day we will each do what we think is right for our babies, like most things baby related there is no right or wrong.

I've said this before but my mam always gave the babies water. Like Sarah says, they need a little drink if something else :)
I just don't know from how small she gave it......
But as quickly as h found that article.... You'll find another am sure giving conflicting advice!!!
We each know our own babies n will do for them what we feel is right. :)

Hi ladies.

Sorry been AWOL - phone is slowing dying on me!!

Quick question to those who have had episiotomies -

Does yr scar hurt/ache??
Mine feels like I need to nip it to release some tension/pain...

A couple of weeks ago (4-5) I found a huge spot at the top of the scar which I popped and it stank! I told the nurse and she asked me to keep an eye in it but I think it was just coincidence

Anyway - anyone else aching?? Xx

Hi just need some advice!

How many basic baby grows & vest do i need in new born and 0-3 ? i know a lot of outfits will be bought for us and wont need these at the beginning so don't need to worry. But i want to got to next/ mother care and get ones that wash nice so just wonder from your experience how many do i need of each and sizes?

Also stocking up on nappies/ wipes i was thinking to buy a few of each brand then keep topping an Asda gift card up each month incase the brand i choose doesn't agree with baby and then be stuck with loads!

Months away but feeling so unorganised just because i dont have a clue!!

Thanks xx

I've brought 4 sets of baby grows/vests in 0-1 rather than newborn, simply cos in most places newborn only goes up to 7.5lbs and most babies are about that when born, so I think it'd be a waste.
0-1 in Tesco at least is up to 10lbs so thought that would be more suitable.
Also got a couple of 0-1 in H&M but they seem smaller.
It does also depend on how long baby is and you ain't gonna know that until bubs is here so I wouldn't buy too many.
0-3 I've got quite a few, I know people will buy us loads but I've brought ones I really like and want baby to have, rather than just buying cos I need them.

re: nappies and wipes- I've done the same- brought a pack of 3 different brands (Tesco, Waitrose & Pampers) and some sensitive skin wipes (think it was Pampers or Huggies) and once we know if baby is sensitive to any, we can then bulk buy.

We are hoping the Waitrose ones will be good, as they are cheap and I get staff discount on them so we can stock up whilst we have the money.
Hope that helps x

Yes thank you its hard as they need to be washed ready so ant take them all back ha ha ! There is a tesco near me and not far from the town so i suppose i just need enough for the first week and then I'm sure il be ready to get out the house and buy the sizes i need! I just feel unorganised not having everything / anything!
