Girls who've started weaning. Going by my phn's advice, u will begin weaning É in 2 weeks (at 17 weeks!) However, I thought she was meant to b able sit up on her own???
She can't!!!
She can sit up if I slightly aid her, but I wouldn't call that being able to sit up. What level of "sitting" where your little ones at when u began??

I think they say sitting aided, not unaided. Cole can't sit up by himself yet (he can for a few seconds then face plants the floor!) but he can sit in his high chair. I think it's more that they can hold their head themselves.

For those that FF, what do you do at night regarding making up the bottles in advance?
We've got a starter pack of Aptamil ready made bottles which are a lifesaver!!
But after tonight we'll be making them with the powder, do you just make in advance, keep in fridge, then warm as needed?

That's what we did before we got the TT machine. Made them hot, cooled them down fast by standing in cold water then straight in the fridge.

Ok cool that's what we're gonna do then.
Am planning to get a TT machine at some point tho- I get 25% staff discount at John Lewis and I'm due some gift vouchers too :D

I'd def recommend getting one - we got it half price but would of paid full as so convenient. x

I also found this

Age: 4 to 6 months

Signs of readiness for solid food

Your baby probably won't do all these things - they're just clues to watch for.

Can hold head up
Sits well in highchair
Makes chewing motions
Shows significant weight gain (birth weight has doubled) and weighs about 13 pounds or more
Shows interest in food
Can close mouth around a spoon
Can move food from front to back of mouth
Can move tongue back and forth, but is losing tendency to push food out with tongue
Seems hungry after 8 to 10 feedings of breast milk or 40 oz. of formula in a day
Is teething

Cole does/did every one of those which is why we started at 18-19 weeks. And he loves it. He's 'chewed' from his first mouthful. Everyone that's seen him eat has passed comment that he was definitely ready :D

The idea I think is that they can hold their head up and the line between their head and stomach is 'straight' so they don't inhale any food! I don't know what advice she gave you Frances but you don't have to wean her at 17 weeks hun, you can wait a while if you don't think she is ready. Xx

No she didn't say I "have" to. Just it's recommended to start around 17 weeks n they like babies to b established by 6 months... So anything in between really

Ours contradict themselves. They say 'wait till 6 months' closely followed by 'at 6 months they should be on 3 meals a day'
How is that possible if you wait till 6 months??

We were over 5 months before starting properly with Stevie but only cos of his allergy.
We did try baby rice and baby porridge at about 14 weeks (though desperation) but it didn't make him any better - that now I know was because he was allergic to milk lol. X
