Pregnancy and Baby Advice Thread: From Conception to Birth, and Beyond!

Susie question for you really if you don't mind.

My little lady is 9days old. She was born rather quickly - 20mins pushing. She was full of mucus and choked a few times in the hospital. The nurse told me to turn her over, rest on my arm and slap hard till she cleared her airway. She said she'd be grand in 48 hours. Problem is its happened now 3 times in the 2 days. She be's sleeping one minute next you'll hear like she is burping up milk and when I look she is bright red and struggling to breath. The last 2 times her lips have gone blue and her eyes bulge. I found her hard to clear this last time and I'm really worried. I can't take my eyes off her and I can't sleep. She is feeding well (1-2oz every 3hrs) and is having wet and dirty nappies. She is also pretty alert so seems well otherwise.

Not a question but for anyone who is interested in baby wearing, here's Seth in our Close Caboo! We got it second hand from a baby wearing group on fb and it's brilliant - easy to put on once you know how and Seth is so content in it, I've had it on for a couple of hours now and he's been fast asleep the whole time, bless him <3 It's so nice to wear, it's like having lots of baby cuddles but you get your hands free too. Been wearing it at a friends house so that I have my hands free for board gaming but Seth is still snuggled up and it's worked brilliantly so far! Love how happy he looks :D xxx

That's fab. A friend has said we could borrow hers so think we are going to give that a try. I thought around the house it may be useful for when I want both hands free. Seth does look mighty comfy x

Mmm. Could be a number of things but I think it's unlikely to be mucus left from the birth (well done you btw). I would suggest you probably get her reviewed. They can check her over and would put your mind at rest? Have you got a walk in centre or something near you? Or your gp tomorrow? If you're really worried there is always A&E? It could be reflux or something like that?
Try not to worry though, it's likely to be something that is easily to be sorted.
Big hugs, you're doing a grand job xx

Okay thanks. Think I might take her into the doctors tomorrow just incase. She seems happy and healthy otherwise. Its just a worry incase I am sleeping when it happens next.

Looks great! We borrowed a close one but now she's bigger she's not keen as she is a really nosey Parker! You're looking fabulous btw, especially considering you have a 2week old baby! X

Sooo many replies Cai but as far as I know he's still too young for even baby rice???
N even at that I don't think it's recommended to giv with the last feed if a night anyway (when old enough!) I think second last feed if anything coz its harder to digest when sleeping/laying down... Something along them lines anyway....
(Someone more in the know has prob commented by now anyway so sorry if I'm duplicating...)

Lol - I appreciate everyone's advice etc.

I'm just struggling to know what to do for the best cos there is always someone somewhere saying the opposite of what someone else is saying lol.

I'm thinking best things to try first are:
Warm bottles at night (I give them room temp)
Swapping formula to comfort one
Lots of paddling of legs every time we change him etc
Extra burping during feeds
Massaging his tummy
...

Of anyone else has a suggestion I willing to try anything cos after 12 weeks of broken sleep every night I need it to get better!! Just cutting out one wake up to start with would do!! Xx

Hi all, hope you're all ok! Not really a question related to the topic and hope you don't mind me asking...but I know some of you have had experience in this area.

My best friend has been TTC for 3 years in Feb. She has done everything asked of her, changed job to less stressful, stopped working nights, stopped all alcohol and tea and coffee, had acupuncture. She is a healthy weight now (used to be really quite large but has lost loads over the past 10yrs) and she has never smoked. She has had a lap and dye, all fine (she only has one ovary and tube but they are all ok and loads of eggs), her hubby has been tested and is fine, basically it's not happening for whatever reason. They are heading back to the consultant at the beginning of Feb to discuss treatment but this is something she's really not keen on (she knows a few people who have had IVF and it hasn't worked, and she/they aren't in a financial position to keep paying for more cycles after the NHS ones). So, is there anything I can suggest to her to try, or buy her or something that you felt helped you? I think she would try anything.

Thanks in advance and sorry for hijacking the post! Xxx

Susie myself and nelly had a form of ivf and it worked first time. So we are two positive stories xx as for what else to recommend I don't know but I wish your friend all the best x

has she tracked her cycles with ovulation tests and temps so she knows when ovulation is happening? x

Cai are you using the tommee tippee closer to nature bottles? I know my friend used those and had to change as her baby was taking far too much air with them so was really windy and was doing the thrashing thing you described. She tried avent bottles and dr browns I think and found he was much better...she settled on dr Brown's in the end. I think her baby is a bit greedy and guzzled the milk down to fast so he wasn't sealing lips around the teat enough. Just something to think about....a pain in the backside I know if it is the bottles! Xx

I am using those in the main. I also have 2 advent ones and 2 tesco ones. I could try to use just those 4 bottles to see if it makes a difference!! Typically I have 12 tommee tippee ones and have only recently bought 6 of them with new teats for all! Lol. This is what happens when I over buy lol.

Thanks for the suggestion!! :) xxx

I'm not sure what worked for us but after our consultant appointment in January last year when we were told we'd need IVF we both started taking vitamins (pregnacare conception and wellman), we also both stopped drinking and cut down on caffeine. Colin stopped taking hot baths and we relaxed a bit in terms of sex and when we did it. Seth was conceived in the March so it don't know if it was just coincidence but something worked! I'd also just got my 5.5 stone award at SW so pretty sure my weight loss helped.

I hope something works for her soon - ttc is soul destroying when you've been trying for ages and it must be so much worse when there's no obvious problem, at least I could cling on to trying to fix something. xxx

Not direct advice from me but thought id share anyway. Someone from our antenatal class had a lot of stitches and was told by the mw to run a bath and put milk and lavender oil into it. She also said to put a few drops of lavender oil on to the sticky side of a maternity pad. This is meant to slowly seep through and help soothe where the stitches site is. She says it has helped so thought id pass the advice on to anyone in need!

How do you see things on the silver section? Am I not privileged enough yet? X

I think it's something to do with the number of posts - I put my diary there so that students at school don't come across it - I know they can see these posts but not constant personal life posts if that makes sense? Xx

Hi hun. We were ttc for 3.5 years. Both had all the tests n came back with "unexplained infertility"
Our bodies were doing what they should but it wasn't happening for whatever reason. Doc was sending me away with just that but after a bit if a breakdown in her office she offered me a 3 round of Clomid, 50mg...
I'd given up caffeine n alcohol already so when it came to my first cycle I took the tabs days 2-6 n sts every other day after AF finished as instructed. Didn't work. Cycle 2 I took the tabs same days, sts every other day after AF until I got a +OPK (ovulation prediction) then we that day n the next 2! As well as that I ate rocket n pineapple core n drank raspberry leaf tea (3 cups a day) for 6 days after ovulation n drank 2 litres of water per day. Obviously was also taking folic acid!! Then I got my bfp...
Dunno if was any of what I ate, drank, the Clomid r just that the time was right!!! But I like to think it was a little of everything
Hope some of that helps n it's her turn soon.
