Secret to shaping up

Pretika- Cardio is the harder workout of the three. I always do Kettleworx as soon as I get up, I notice a big difference in performance if I workout on an empty stomach. I feel much weaker and struggle with the workout.
Might also be an idea to get a smaller bell for cardio :)

Pretika, don't be put off as we all struggled with the cardio one. I think most of us would agree that it is our least favourite of the 3. If you need to pause then do because as you progress in the programme you will find that you need to pause less & less. I would be of the opinion (Kron please step in & correct me if I am wrong) that form is much more important than speed & it would be much better to say 6 good reps than 12 not so good ones. I know I struggled to keep up in the beginning but by week 3 you'll be flying through it :)

I have just finished week 5 off with resistance which was really enjoyable & my shoulder held up well. The only time I really noticed an ache was with the second set of disco side bends but \i was naughty & stuck with my 5kg bell  Really looking forward to week 6 now

Pleased your feeling a bit better Sweet.
Can you believe we are about to start our final week!! How time flies. I will probably get the cardio out of the way 2moro, was going to do it today, but absolutely shattered after my run today!

Shazz, I can't believe where the time has gone either!! Seems no time since we started it. If I'm feeling ok then I think I'll do core tomorrow. I'm looking froward to starting the programme again though with a heavier bell. I saw argos have a 7.5kg one at £19.99 which wasnt too bad pricewise so I might just go for that

Kron, I was trying the renegade rows from one of the you tube links & can do them with dumbells but not with kb's :( I can lift the weight but when I'm leaning on the kb it doesnt feel secure if you know what I mean. Is it my kb?? Any tips??

Thanks all for the encouragement !!! I am determined to keep going.... I'm gonna give it another go tomorrow !!!! Thank you all xx

Hi All
Donzy great you had a chance to have a play, Alex found that clip and it is a good one - looks like hard work tho lol

Eatwell hope you had a great holiday, and look forward to hearing your progress whan you get back

Hollie fantastic using your 5, and off to spin class as well, so motivated good for you - work thru those aches :)

Pretika please dont worry, as has been said cardio is the more challenging workout in mosts opinion, it could be you were having a slightly off day. The bells will challenge you and it may be that you need a light snack to see you through. I generally do mine after work, and found that if I had a busy day with little time to eat i couldnt work out properly. Keep going, you may never have this problem again, but if you are struggling first thing in the morning it could be due to lack of energy as having an empty stomach. Pause and take a minute if needed, do fewer reps, Sweet is right that form over quantity will be better than trying to keep up the reps - you will get there very soon, I hope to hear your feeling better about it tomorrow

Claire - you personal postie thats great :) just hope he doesnt get lumbered delivering bells lol fingers crossed he has a parcel for you today

Chick just think of what that butt is going to be like when your done ;) Not too many squats in core

Cleo good advice, it is good if you can drop down weight on some of the exercises especially when starting out, I can guarantee that it will only take a few sessions and you will be using your heavy for all of them :)

alex - what have you done to your foot - please dont drop the bell on it lol

Shazz I feel like my fledglings are ready to leave the nest :) starting week 6 wow, going to be looking forward to your review of the programme

Sweet - naughty lol using your 5 on a poorly shoulder but good for you for giving it a go. Its great to hear your going to keep it up and thinking of using a 7.5 to start again with, thats great and will get you more results :)
I have tried the renegade rows but didnt feel confident as felt it was going to roll. I have tried it with laying the bell on its side, so the handle is on the floor, and this seemed to give it more stability. if you want to keep doing them and you have dumbbells you can just use them for that particular move, especially if it feels more comfortable - hark at you doing renegades show off lol

Hi Gettingfit, keeping that thigh looked after I hope :) It is a great programme, keeps changing every time and throwing new moves in to kep it fun, good luck with tomorrows session, and hope to have you back swinging next week

I am tucking into a bowl of homemade soup as off to class tonight its going to be sooo hot, hopefully only a small class so we can coerce the instructor to back down on cardio lol

Kron: it must take you ages replying to everyone!! Your comments are greatly appreciated, so thank you so much for all the support and motivation you have given :)
I, like Sweet are not leaving the nest just yet. I'm going to do it again with 7.5kg, then maybe upgrade to a heavier one half way again. What would my next size up be?

Thanks Kron. I'm glad it wasnt just me that felt very unsteady. I tried them again with both hands on the floor & using just 1 kb doing 5 reps to one side then 5 to the other which actually felt better than the dumbells (they were too light!!! :D) Really felt them working just hope I'm not too sore to do week 6 core tomorrow.

Shazz, I dont know what you think but I'm expecting week 6 to be a killer week with it being the last one. I cant see him going too easy on us having got this far!! I loved the fact the the plank reappeared in week 5 resistance after a bit of an absence & loved the fact that I found it easy even more!!!! lol Just shows how much stronger we have become throughout the programme!!

I'm definitely not flying the nest yet either. I'm really looking forward to re-doing the programme now I'm more familiar with the moves & seeing how much heavier a kb I can manage. My 5kg is already starting to feel too light for quite a few of the moves but will finish week 6 with it & then start afresh with a 7.5kg the following week. I usually do mine just before I have lunch & my kids (well the 2 bigger ones) like to join in which is really funny!! We had hubby in stitches tonight watching the 3 of us doing windmills!!! Obviously I'm not letting them use kb's at 5 & 3 though!!! :D

Hi Shazz, so happy your sticking with us and restarting with your 7.5 I think you need to go to a 9 or 10 for your next size. I haven't done kettleworx with my 10 yet, but am sure I will give it a go soon. I find my 10 great for swings, windmills, etc find it heavy going on presses, so still not up with my reps on these. The great thing is that when you gather a few different bells you have a choice, you can pick a weight pending on the exercise so if you fancy more of a cardio workout go lighter and get lots of reps, heavier with fewer reps to tone :)

Sweet I remember your post about hating the planks lol what a difference in such a short amount of kb time ;) when you want to up planks, try full push up position with bel in both hands, just gives a bit different dimension. that's a great way to do renegades, you feel steady and able to perfect the move without wobbling and just concentrating on not falling over.
How great the little ones are doing it with you, I can imagine how much fun it is for you all - hubby not joining in lol ;)

Yes it can take some time to post a reply sometimes lol I am always worried i miss someone out or forget to answer a question
But as you all know I am mad for the bells, and more than happy to help out if I can x

I know. I usd to collapse at the end of the planks & now the time seems to go fairly quickly!!! :D Amazing the difference a few weeks makes

Thanks Kron, I will go shopping in a week or two and get a 10kg bell........gosh that sounds so heavy!!!
Planks did used to be a nightmare, but surprisingly they are much easier now.

Sweet: I hadn't thought about week 6 been harder than the rest. I'm about to do Cardio now.....!!!!!

Ok I about to do cardio week 1 again- wish me luck !!!

Ok managed to get through it bit I did not do as many reps .... I think that I will do week 1 again to get me up to a better fitness level ... I did some abs for a few minutes - absolutely drenched ... I thought

Well done fir keeping at it! X

OMG!!! Woke up this morning and I am still sore from resistance on MONDAY!!!

Couldn't even manage core yesterday as planned because I was in pain! My muscles seemed to get worse as the day went on! It's my legs they were killing me?

Any advice on how to avoid this, I expect some aching of course but 3 days worth? Really?!

Xx

For those who ordered off ideal tv website, how long did it take for yours to come? Fankoo x

Well done Pretika for getting through it :)

Chick - I remember those pains oh so well!!! As you progress through the program they become much more bearable.

Well was meant to be doing wk 6 Cardio, but part way through I thought it seemed a bit easier than normal. Then I realised I had put Core on instead!!! I had to build myself up to do the cardio as well!!

Thanks shazzabir I'm glad to hear that! Just did core wk1 and love it! Think core is defo going to be my fav. The dreaded cardio is planned for Saturday( that's if I can still move lol)

Have a lovely day everyone I'm going power-walking around the shops today for new shoes :) x

Shazz, I thought week 6 core seemed to pass quite quickly despite the butt elevators & planks (which I'm rather strangely starting to enjoy!!) I was prepared to suffer today though maybe the dreaded cardio will make up for it. Was looking forward to hearing what you thought of it so that I could prepare myself!!! I went to argos this morning & got myself a 7.5kg & decided to give it a go with the core & managed fine though I am expecting to suffer tomorrow. I had my 5kg on standby just incase but didnt need it so I'm dead chuffed with myself!!! I'm holding off on measurements until I have finished this week but know they must have dropped again coz my next shopping trip is for new trousers before I end up arrested!!!! :D

Pretika, well done for sticking with it & doing it again. I promise it does get easier. I havent done the shred so cant compare the 2 but I hear its tough too.

Chick, I remember the constant pain in the beginning too. It was there all the time for the first 2 weeks then it started easing by week 3 (which made me wonder if I was doing something wrong coz I had got so used to the muscle aches!!) Just do your best to work through it & it will pass.
